Diner Reviews
  • "We were severely disappointed when we ordered the croquettes on the happy hour menu. They are listed as plural, insinuating that they come with at least two, but we discovered it was only one. Please modify your menu to indicate that you only get one croquette."

  • "This is a nice step up from the many casual eateries in the University area -- a nice place for a special lunch. The food is an imaginative blend of offerings to meet all tastes, and the presentation well-done. The woman who waited on us is my favorite wait person in the entire city (and I eat out a lot!) She has the perfect balance of knowledge of the food, personal connection, and timely responsiveness to requests... All of that plus her English (?) accent makes me look forward to my next trip."

  • "Seeing that it's Rick (from Screen Door, my favorite PDX restaurant), I expected pretty good food. At least something of note. We waited nearly 30 minutes to place our food order, and then waited another 30 before our appetizers arrived. Duck confit egg rolls (pre rolled, not fresh to order, no need for a 30 min wait) came out first, then manchego and potato croquettes that were inconsistent between bites (some had cheese, some didn't). Will not be returning."

  • "Convenient place to eat before going to a performance at Keller Auditorium. Good service. Large serving portions."

  • "The hostess was frantic and walked by us 4 times before greeting us. Our server was good and knowledgable about the specials. The entree's were completely overcooked and the table next to us also was complaining about the entree's. We all sent our food back to the kitchen and it still came back out overcooked. We would not eat here again."

  • "Leave enough time (i.e., start 90+ minutes before the show), as they seemed a bit overwhelmed as there was a wait for the main course, but it is a great spot for before shows at Keller Auditorium."

  • "This is the perfect place for a before theatre dinner experience. We watched as many couples were turned away, so book early and you will have a delicious meal before crossing the street to the Keller. It is perfect! We had a relatively new waitress but she was personable, attentive and seemed wanting to please. The food was excellent lots of variety, and good size portions. I highly recommend this as a great dining spot, even if you aren't going to theater."

  • "I just want to suggest not to try to eat here before a show. We had 5:30 reservations allowing plenty of time to be in our seats at 7:30. We almost got seated in the dining room but our table was given to the couple behind us and we got sent to the bar. The menu had no vegetarian selections as we had seen on the webpage. There were selections when we asked. At 6:50 3 of the 4 in our party got their dinner. 10 minutes later it came We hurriedly ate our $25 dinners that tasted quite good and made it to our seats with time to spare. One of the bartenders told us how proud they were that they had served 60 people in 1 hour. I just could not share his pleasure."

  • "The experience didnt match our expectations. We made a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday night ... and we ended up the only people in the restaurant. They started closing down right after we were seated, which they ended up putting us in the bar. It was our anniversary and we had hoped for something a little more intimate and romantic, instead we got just a run of the mill seat in the bar. Our water was warm. The flower on our table was dead. This while several staff members finished their shift and sat in the bar to loudly discuss their day. The food was good. The waiter and bartender were very gracious and helpful, but it just didn't turn out like we had hoped."

  • "We've come a few times over the past year, usually before a show at the Keller. Once again, we reserved a table before a show. Service this time was quite good; the restaurant was really busy with people dining before the performance, but they had obviously scheduled in extra wait staff, which was much appreciated. That has not generally been our experience at other times. The food was good; we had a salad and the burger with pork belly along with drinks. Table was right near the kitchen, which was not great and we asked to switch to an empty one by a window, but the hostess said that "somebody had requested that exact table" and she was unable to honor our request. So that table sat empty for the first 45 minutes we were there."

  • "Three of us dined here pre-theater and we each ordered different meals, all of which were exceptional. My duck confit was the best I've ever had and came with 3 delicious sides. Will dine here again."

  • "Reservation made in April, for July 8, so I was a bit putoff when we were seated in the loud bar with a soccer match on t.v. Negatives: Our waiter did not know what beers were on tap or what the soup was. We were dining with another couple. Our food was delievered 5 minutes before the other couples. Our pre-entree dishes were not cleared before our food was delivered. One person in our party ordered soup. It was delievered without a spoon. After waiting a few minutes for our waiter to reappear he got up and asked for a spoon. Our check was delivered to our table while one of our party was still eating. Good things: food was DELICIOUS and it's a great location if you're seeing a show at Keller."

  • "It is beyond me that a place like this can survive. They should only be allowed to serve beer and wine. No mixed drinks pls. My microwave heated luke-warm steak was covered with red lettuce that had to be week old, mushy, with no taste. My beet salad made of canned beets again has no taste. My wife's shrimp was an insult to seafood. Her black bean soup was a paste. They had no espresso machine. Our Saturday dinner had to end by 8:30PM. They closed their kitchen by 8:15PM. We were leaving at 8:30PM, just when the staff started to party in the bar area."

  • "The food was wonderful -- as usual. We had a lovely attentive server this time. A little too loud for conversation, but I usually sit outside. Great spot for pre-show dinner!!"

  • "They no longer have small plates or sharing plates...just appetizers and entrees and a prix fixe. So, the cost of the meal was much more than we anticipated. Our server was very nice. He knew we wanted to finish a salad later so he set it aside on our table. Unfortunately it disappeared when another employee took it without asking. Two of us shared an entree and we told two people we were sharing and no one offered a second plate. I think they get the majority of their business from the Keller Auditorium so I think they have a lot of pressure in other areas that most restaurants don't. We don't dine out that often so it was a bummer for us to pay so much when we weren't anticipating it for food that we didn't really want."

  • "I have yet to have a less than wonderful experience. It is our 'go to' spot for an evening with friends at the Keller Auditorium. French flair, cozy setting, great for people watching!"

  • "We had dinner here before attending the theatre at the Keller. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. THe menu is somewhat limited, great halibut special the night we were there but we opted for the hamburger--cooked the way we requested and one of the best burgers that I have had in the city. Our service was excellent and we were out with time to spare."

  • "My friend and I had dinner before going to the Keller Auditorium. We ordered the steak dish. It was cooked to perfection and topped with the most wonderful onion ring I have ever had!! We can't wait to go back and most likely will...very soon."

  • "What a find! Glad we had reservations. Were seeing a show at the Keller, and decided on Bistro Marquee. Had read other reviews - mostly good - and I'll add to that. Friendly welcome, efficient seating, wonderful menu choices, and good, mostly great service. It got busy - theater night, and they were full, with many folks on a 'theater deadline.' So, understandable that there were some lags - but nothing that kept us from relaxed dining, even able to order and finish a YUMMY shared dessert and get to the theater in plenty of time. THANK YOU! Will be back... Great food - and lovely atmosphere - made our special ladies night even more special. And LOVE the free VALET parking!"

  • "We seemed to be the only table not attending the event at the Keller on the night we went. I thought it was great that when I was called to confirm the reservation, the manager made sure I knew that they were going to be full of opera-goers who would all want to eat and leave at the same time. My boss added another diner last minute, and the manager added another setting without batting an eye. We were pretty boisterous, so I don't know if they thought we were super fun or will groan the next time I go in, but I loved how they handled the evening."

  • "If there had been any recourse we would have walked out, but we had tickets to the opera and no other option. We had planned on a special evening out with friends, I was so embarrassed that I had recommended this place. The waiter did not acknowledge the table until twenty minutes after we were seated, we gave our drink and dinner order all in one go. Then sat for another 50 minutes until we all had food..I mean to say our order did not all come out at the same time. During those 50 minutes, no one checked on us or offered us an explanation as to why we were waiting so long. Attempts to inquire as to our order resulted in a Hostess that was rude and belligerent to us. Dinner was a horror show!"

  • "Had reservations for 5:30 so we could see a show across the street at 7:30. It took forever for them to take our order. The food didn't arrive until 7:10. The ravioli I ordered came swimming in the water that should have been drained: completely inedible. Others at the table were also dissatisfied. We received several apologies from the staff who ended up discounting our meal by 20% It can't be a surprise to the management that people are dining there prior to a show and have time constraints. I have lived and dined in Portland for 40 years and never had this bad an experience. I hate to slam anyone for a one time event and sincerely hope others had better experiences, but we'll never go back and will relate this story to others."

  • "Two of us had the halibut special, and it was as good as the presentation, which was great. My spouse didn't love the rhubarb infused vodka cocktail, but otherwise all of us enjoyed our dinner very much. "

  • "We started with a couple of cocktails - the signature Marquee Martini was excellent. My husband had the goat cheese ravioli and enjoyed it, although the portion size left a bit to be desired. I had the fish special, broiled halibut with fingerling potatoes, carrots, and a wonderful watercress puree. The service was excellent, but that could have been because there was only one other couple in the restaurant (on a Saturday night). For dessert, we had the orange creme brulee which was very good, and the cookies which could have been better. All in all, a good restaurant for a special occasion. The prices can be prohibitive for regular dining."

  • "I made reservations for 6:30 on a theater night & the process was very easy. We arrived slightly before our appointed time, & were told by the owner the latest they take theater night res is for 5:45, & there were a lot of meal tickets ahead of us & she couldn't jump us ahead. I didn't see anything about the time limitation on the Open Table website. Perhaps it was there, but I didn't see it. We were seated in the bar - very noisy. Our server was busy but brought us drinks & took our order. We tried to find something that would be quick to prepare. My date enjoyed his burger, especially the pickled red onions. I ordered the goat cheese ravioli. Tasty, but few. Way overpriced. Burger was reasonably priced. At least they validate parking."

  • "Pluses: their chef burger was really good. They are a stone's throw from the Keller, wait staff was attentive. Negatives: portion sizes are small for the price. No noshing menu after 5:30 on theatre nights. New menu seems very limited. Ultimately, I may come back because of their location, not because of their food."

  • "This little restaurant sits near the Keller Auditorium and per the staff if is very busy on theater nights. However, on the Saturday evening that we dined there, it was quiet. The menu is well thought out and expertly executed. The food was cooked as it should have been. Since it was Portland Dining out month, I had the special menu items and my husband chose off of the regular menu. Both meals were great. The restaurant would not attract neighborhood diners nor does it get much foot traffic so it is definitely a destination restaurant but it is not one to pass by. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a well prepared meal served in an intimate cozy atmosphere."

  • "The decor is ok. We were put at a table that wasn't ready, no cutlery etc. Our waitress took five minutes to get to us, then told us she would wait to take our order even though we were ready. She did this at every stage of dinner, started to feel like she just had better things to do. I had the shrimp and polenta. Three shrimp, a thin piece of pork belly, and a bowl full of polenta. My fiance had the ravioli, he didn't like the flavors, but that's his personal thing. However, the serving was so small he was done in maybe five minutes. Overall, the experience was forgettable. We both left hungry, and went to our hotel afterwards to have some actual food. I'm glad it was dining month, I never would have paid full price for the meal we had."

  • "Being right next to the Keller Auditorium, they are very busy before the show. So we went at 7:00 when the show had just started. Quite, not crowded, no rush. The portions are not huge but well prepared and adequate -- you just won't take home a big doggy bag. The crispy fried oyster appetizer was especially notable. Service was good -- informative but not pushy We went during dining month so had the 3 course prefix -- which was very good. Would like to return to try some of the other menu items as well."

  • "We went here for Portland dining month. It took about 30 mins between the salad and main course and when it showed up most of us were very disappointed. Three of us got the shrimp and polenta with pork belly which was mostly good, but the polenta had absolutely no flavor, just tasted like mush. Two people ordered the ravioli and even though I love salt AND have a cold, even I could tell that it was WAY too salty. The only good meal was the ribs that my friend said were very good and the desserts were all great. I was very disappointed by the experience and will probably not be back."

  • "Tried Bistro Marquee during Portland Dining Month. whilst the food was enjoyable the portion size was below what we had come to expect from American restaurants and even small by Australian standards which are 3/4 of astandard US dish. The restaurant suffers also from a limited bottle wine list and ambience. There are much better places to eat in Portland."
