Diner Reviews
  • "The food was great. My friend and I enjoyed our meal there. The place was quiet and we were able to carry on conversation without talk louder! :) The waiter was super friendly and helpful."

  • "I made reservations for 6:30 on a theater night & the process was very easy. We arrived slightly before our appointed time, & were told by the owner the latest they take theater night res is for 5:45, & there were a lot of meal tickets ahead of us & she couldn't jump us ahead. I didn't see anything about the time limitation on the Open Table website. Perhaps it was there, but I didn't see it. We were seated in the bar - very noisy. Our server was busy but brought us drinks & took our order. We tried to find something that would be quick to prepare. My date enjoyed his burger, especially the pickled red onions. I ordered the goat cheese ravioli. Tasty, but few. Way overpriced. Burger was reasonably priced. At least they validate parking."

  • "Pluses: their chef burger was really good. They are a stone's throw from the Keller, wait staff was attentive. Negatives: portion sizes are small for the price. No noshing menu after 5:30 on theatre nights. New menu seems very limited. Ultimately, I may come back because of their location, not because of their food."

  • "Very friendly, helpful and efficient wait staff. Chef knows what to do with pork belly - yumm!"

  • "This little restaurant sits near the Keller Auditorium and per the staff if is very busy on theater nights. However, on the Saturday evening that we dined there, it was quiet. The menu is well thought out and expertly executed. The food was cooked as it should have been. Since it was Portland Dining out month, I had the special menu items and my husband chose off of the regular menu. Both meals were great. The restaurant would not attract neighborhood diners nor does it get much foot traffic so it is definitely a destination restaurant but it is not one to pass by. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a well prepared meal served in an intimate cozy atmosphere."

  • "The decor is ok. We were put at a table that wasn't ready, no cutlery etc. Our waitress took five minutes to get to us, then told us she would wait to take our order even though we were ready. She did this at every stage of dinner, started to feel like she just had better things to do. I had the shrimp and polenta. Three shrimp, a thin piece of pork belly, and a bowl full of polenta. My fiance had the ravioli, he didn't like the flavors, but that's his personal thing. However, the serving was so small he was done in maybe five minutes. Overall, the experience was forgettable. We both left hungry, and went to our hotel afterwards to have some actual food. I'm glad it was dining month, I never would have paid full price for the meal we had."

  • "Being right next to the Keller Auditorium, they are very busy before the show. So we went at 7:00 when the show had just started. Quite, not crowded, no rush. The portions are not huge but well prepared and adequate -- you just won't take home a big doggy bag. The crispy fried oyster appetizer was especially notable. Service was good -- informative but not pushy We went during dining month so had the 3 course prefix -- which was very good. Would like to return to try some of the other menu items as well."

  • "We went here for Portland dining month. It took about 30 mins between the salad and main course and when it showed up most of us were very disappointed. Three of us got the shrimp and polenta with pork belly which was mostly good, but the polenta had absolutely no flavor, just tasted like mush. Two people ordered the ravioli and even though I love salt AND have a cold, even I could tell that it was WAY too salty. The only good meal was the ribs that my friend said were very good and the desserts were all great. I was very disappointed by the experience and will probably not be back."

  • "Tried Bistro Marquee during Portland Dining Month. whilst the food was enjoyable the portion size was below what we had come to expect from American restaurants and even small by Australian standards which are 3/4 of astandard US dish. The restaurant suffers also from a limited bottle wine list and ambience. There are much better places to eat in Portland."

  • "The food was over priced for the quality. The service was great. But I would recommend this place for a happy hour, not a full dinner."

  • "My mother and I had a delicious meal before a show on a Tuesday night. The Bistro was comfortable and bustling. They did mix our order up a bit, but we eventually got the right food which was worth the wait. We made it to the show in plenty of time. I think they may have had some new staff that was struggling with the computer ordering system."

  • "This is a convenient place to eat before events at the Keller that has good food, reasonably priced in a pleasant atmosphere."

  • "I understand that this particular restaurant location has changed hands recently. They're still working out some of the kinks. The food was fair to good, but overpriced. Being Portland Dining Month, the prix fixe would have been quite a deal...except the items Bistro Marquee chose to offer were uninspiring, so we went a la carte. Generally, the service was lacking. Perhaps the new management didn't realize that from time to time there are performances at the nearby Keller Auditorium. So I'm sure what normally would have been a slow and quiet Tuesday night was impacted by a nearly sold-out show. Staff was very polite and apologetic, but frenetic. Everything from getting seating to basic water refills took longer than necessary."

  • "Excellent food. Close to Keller. Like this place, but this time service was only so-so. Our server was interested in the table next to us. They got pepper we did not, cocktail arrived after salads, glass empty for a long time during dinner, finally asked if wanted refill, then didn't get it until long after diner, etc. Other help was very friendly."

  • "Ate at Bistro Marquee the other night for the first time. Excellent food, nice atmosphere, prompt service (of course, it was a ballet night at the Keller and they get packed so have to move fast--but we never felt rushed). Excellent place to go before the ballet or theater at the Keller."

  • "The food was mediocre, and the service was poor, but the price was high. It wasn't exactly bad. Just not worth the price. One can get better food for a third or half the price in dozens of places around Portland. Too bad, because the location is great."

  • "Apparently we were there on a night when the kitchen crew imploded 2/22 and alas someone walked off the line. We were not made aware of this (and why should we) until it was taking an oddly long time for our food. Because of the time crunch to make it over to the Keller we had all gone for the simplest thing we could think of, burgers. They literally had to box up our barely touched food because of the time. The owner was mortified at our experience and did her best to make it right. The food was really good when we finally got to it the next day. My dining companions are less forgiving and I am afraid they might not try again but my husband has had positive experiences with happy hour so we'll be back I think. Once they settle in."

  • "I'll lead with unique positive; free valet parking; good price on lots of 375ml wine "growlers." The 1st courses are good, not enormous; the main dishes interesting in a good way; desserts a bit larger. We had the valentine's prix fixe so not sure if this is always the way things are. But overall, good value for interesting cuisine."

  • "Wonderful presentation of each dish. The food was very good. The menu is limited but the choices are quite good. The service was very personal and professional. The wine list is poor. The wine list is very limited and has few local wineries represented. The owners could do a lot to improve the wine list. The neighborhood needs to get to know this restaurant. I believe those who live in the apartments near by would enjoy the atmosphere and the menu."

  • "We were disappointed when Carafe closed but pleased to try its replacement, given the convenience to the Keller. We enjoyed the simple salad, scallops and a relaxed drink before a concert across the street. Our server was very pleasant although seemed a little distracted - I had to attract the attention of the manager to get a second glass of wine, then again for the check. We also made a point, during the reservation process, and again with our server, that one member of the party was gluten-free. Nevertheless, the salad came loaded with croutons. Overall, we enjoyed the evening and will give them another try"

  • "We went for dinner with high expectations based on the 4 star review on open table. The wait person was slow to take drink and dinner orders, slow to fill water glasses. When she brought bread and olive oil, there were no bread plates and she did not bring any. The entrees were served on cold plates, resulting in four of the scallops on one plate being cold, and only the center part of the plate with the shrimp with creole sauce was warm resulting in the food being luke warm. The creole sauce was bland and tasteless. The food was not worth the price paid. Staff was indifferent to our requests."

  • "Going to opera or ballet at the Keller or a concert at the Schnitz? Prompt service, good food, steps away - what more could you ask? Oh yes, make reservations. By the way, the Duck Confit is an excellent choice!"

  • "Brought friends as we were attending the theater after dinner and we found the dinner good but not at the level that we thought it would be. The salad was average. The entree's were better but not something special. The staff seemed hurried and not very focused. Seemed to be going the motions."

  • "The French know their steak; so succulent w/a blue cheese 'esque flavor & oh so tender @ every bite. Fries were very garlicky so you couldn't eat it all, thank goodness. Huge oysters for an appetizer. They serve very rich food but it is after all a French restaurant & worth every bite. We caught a show afterwards so the timing of our food & drinks were spot on & a hop, skip & a jump from the Keller Auditorium."

  • "This is a great restaurant to go to before heading over to the Keller for a show. Great food, and wonderful atmosphere! Just make sure to have a reservation!"

  • "Ideal selection for pre theater dining on a cold and wet January night. Conveniently located across the street from the Keller Auditorium and parking. Our reservation for 5:30 was perfect for a 7:30 curtain call. First impression of this restaurant was the unfriendly sign out front stating "NO WALK-INS". A softer approach like...."Sorry, we are full this evening, please try us again" is a little more inviting. The menus is very limited but a nice selection. Oddly, by 6:00 the kitchen ran out of scallops and by 6:45 ran out of their one and only chocolate dessert, both items my husband wanted to order. He was happy with his second choices & we didn't go away hungry."

  • "We've gone twice now (was willing to give it a second chance). Very convenient to Keller on theater night is why we chose the place. Twice, however, we have had 5:30pm reservations and got out of the restaurant just in time for the 7:30pm show (even after telling the waiter upfront that we were targeting around 7:00pm to be leaving the restaurant). Both times, also, the waiter (two different ones) has been extremely unknowledgeable about everything regarding the restaurant (specials, house wine, not having tasted any of the regular dishes, etc). The first time the waiter forgot to put in our drinks and appetizer order. The second time, it happened to the table next to us. Beef has to be cut with a serrated butter knife."

  • "We dined here on an evening before a performance at the Keller. For its location, it is the perfect place to dine before a theatre performance. The server was very good. My husband ordered the shrimp; I had the scallops. The scallops were lukewarm at best. Flavor was okay, but nothing special. My husband commented similarly about his meal. We have dined here before; our favorite meal is actually the chef's special burger, which is excellent. Other than that, though, and the location, we would not recommend Marquee Bistro."

  • "My fiance and I had dinner here before the show this week. We made a reservation and were seated early since we arrived early. The staff knew how to keep the meal moving since we were going to the show but never made us feel like we were in a rush. The duck confit is to die for! We split the pear cobbler for dessert which was a perfect amount and really unique dessert. The key on a show night is to make a reservation. The place fills up and the staff really tries to make sure you have a nice dinner before the show. We will be back!"

  • "We went to Bistro Marquee prior to a Keller performance and found the service not up to the task. We arrived 1:45 hours before curtain and it took a full 30 minutes to get our wine and even longer for our salad. Fortunately the entree arrived just in time - the fabulous seared scallops and beet salad to salvaged the evening. I would certainly return but have reservations for even earlier next time."

  • "I have been to Bistro Marquee for happy hour during summer and enjoyed the food and outdoor seating. However, my recent lunch there was disappointing in terms of food. The fries were cold and the veggie burger was rather bland. One of our party ordered soup, which never came (also not listed on the bill, which was good). All in all, if I hadn't already been for happy hour and had a better experience, I'm not sure I would return."

  • "I'm so happy this restaurant opened! My daughter and I had a lovey meal before our theater event, and we could linger up until just few minutes before the start time since it's just across the street from the Keller. The food was delicious and well prepared, but wasn't inexpensive. The service was amazing, though. The place had white cloths and candles on the tables...a nice touch."
