Bistrot La Source has a great
regular menu, plus a fantastic price-fixed menu - something for everyone. They really excel in bringing out flavor with fresh herbs and ingredients. They also serve the best cassoulet I've had outside of France. Go, and go often!"

The overall experience was
exceptional. The food and service were outstanding, and the restaurant is a great place to meet up with friends."

We come here often, almost weekly,
and this time we waited for almost an hour for our main entres. They suggested desert however, never said they would comp it for our wait. I would have been happy with a free glass of wine which would have costed them nearly nothing. Food is good but if this becomes a trait, we will go across the street instead. I hope it doesn't because we like the place and the people."

I found this little neighborhood
gem on OpenTable and was delighted with the entire experience; from the escargots to the butternut squash agnoletti with brown butter and pignoli nuts as apps to entrees of cassoulet and my companion's cod, everything was prepared to perfection, including desserts of warm apple crumble with cinammon gelato. My only criticism is the warmed & frothed milk for the coffee didn't seem to blend as it should -- it wound up looking lumpy in the cup even after much mixing...a small thing compared to the lovely meal and great service! Bistro La Source has made my personal list of places to enjoy in Jersey City!"

Usually heading right into
Manhatten for Saturday evening dinner, we have had more than our share of disappointing fare in Jersey City. La Source was an unexpected delight. The food was prepared beautifully, the waitress attentive and we would definitely return. But, we would make later reservations because it was quite noisy."

Love to explore different
restaurants and was very pleased to have found Bistro LaSource, Was born and raised in Jersy City and lived in the suburbs for over 30 years and still love coming back to JC.. Have tried different restaurants in the area and would def come back and recomment Bistro La Source. The menu is so varied my daughter and I had a hard time choosing with so many selections. we had the onion soup, liver pate, cod and skate for the main course and everything was fresh and prepared perfectly. We had a cocktail at the bar and the bartender was spot on with the old fashioned and wine was very good and reasonably priced. Staff was so accomadating, as well as super friendly. Would def come back to try other dishes...."

Excellent food! The best fried
chicken ever! I have never been disappointed, all of the food is outstanding."

Came here for Valentine's dinner
last week. This was only my second time dining here but it is already one of my favorites. The pre-fixe was great. My date and I both had the steak with brussels sprouts. Outstanding. I'm coming back for their mussels!"

This was my first time visiting
Bistro La Source, I went there with my wife and it didn't disappoint, the service was great, the food was delicious and the portions were surprisingly big compared to other places, the only complaint I had was the place was too cold, I think this ruin a bit of the experience, overall I'll comeback with my wife and friends, I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

Five dishes ordered, five dishes
adventurous, exciting, and perfect. Extraordinary kudos to our waitress. I made a mistake in my order, and she fixed it and brought me a new plate when she definitely wasn't required to do so. Then, when I forgot my credit card, she ran out in the cold to give it to us! In a dress! This is my "go to" restaurant whenever I'm in Jersey City, and for good reason. Out of a lot of spectacular options, this is a clear winner."

Had higher expectations from the
looks of the restaurant. The menu was limited with the French cuisine and service was a bit lacking. Our group always had to flag the waitress down for water/service. Food was okay but not great. I asked everyone how they liked their dish and it was okay."

Though pan roasted salmon was over
cooked, it was still juicy. It means the restaurant procures fresh fish. Taste was more than expected. It was an encounter with Hitachino Nest beer."

I was ecstatic to find this
neighborhood gem. Since going to Paris in the summer, I have been craving authentic french bistro food and lamenting the possibility that I might not find it. But to my happy surprise and amazement, Bistro La Source is an amazing small, energetic, piece of Europe in my own backyard. The staff was friendly and attentive, yet laid back and discrete. My girlfriend and I had a wonderfully leisurely brunch, that included many of the delicious dishes on the menu. It was absolutely memorable and an experience I guarantee you I will revisit frequently. From the cappuccino to the escargot, Bistro La Source is authentic and comforting. I couldn't have asked for more than a view of the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame. Loved it!"

Great lunch once again. Fourth
time and still and a treasure to experience."

Very friendly and great service.
Tables a bit close together, but not annoyingly so. Nice European vibe, wine list, and cuisine. Have been there several times and will continue to patronize this charming, hospitable treasure."

We went to Bistro la Source during
Restaurant Week, which is when we often reach out and try new restaurants. The food was just terrific and a great value. We all had different dishes and tried each other's - couldn't decide what was best. It was a bit of French heaven, warm and welcoming. And the off-street parking is a real bonus. We give it our highest rating, and will definitely go back again and again."

This was our second visit and we
will most definitely be returning for many more visits. The meal was spectacular -- they had a number of pork specials recommended by the server and the recommendations were on point. Delicious food from appetizers through dessert. The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful -- the perfect mix. We highly recommend this restaurant!"

I was there in the summer and
loved it, especially for MuscleI Mondays, the sauces were great and the staff was friendly. I have been back multiple times. The last 3 times the Food quality and flavor got worse. Muscle Mondays the sauces are flavorless and hardly no sauce. There is one server who is always there on Mondays who is rude and her attitude changes our experience. Its a shame for such a cute restaurant!"

This is one of our favorite places
in JC and having dinner there are New Year's Eve did not disappoint! The food and service was great as ever and they offered a free glass of champagne at the start of the meal. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the fact we were seated at a table in the bar area instead of the dining room. On a regular night, we are usually ok with that table, however, for NYE I was hoping for more of a romantic dinner with my husband. I would've made an issue over it except my husband wanted to watch the bowl game on TV and he preferred that table. I did wonder if we were being penalized for making a reservation through Open Table, as others walked in after us and got to sit in the dining room."

Great neighborhood bistro.
Excellent value. Good as any NYC bistro without the travel and high prices. Very extensive wine list. Will return in near future."

This was the first time we visited
Bistro La Source on New Years Eve. It wasn't a formal event, but they did have a special menu which at 59$ was excellent value. I had the lamb which was cooked to pink perfection and my husband enjoyed the duck. We had cheese for dessert which was very good, although I think they could have allowed for more than one piece per person. The service was great and the friendliness of the staff is one of the reasons that we love coming to this restaurant. They also managed to save us out favorite table in the corner at the back, which just added to the pleasure of the meal. And we were down by the Hudson in time to see the fireworks by the Statue of Liberty so a perfect end to 2013."

We always enjoy ourselves here,
which is pretty much the whole story. Food is solid and enjoyable French cuisine, but not always inspiring in the foodie sense. Drinks are good and the wine list is sufficient and modestly priced. Be prepared to sit very closely with your neighbors as tables are both small and tightly placed; chairs are a bit delicate. This configuration hampers service, comfort and privacy. One example was that someone trying to leave knocked over the drinks of the adjacent table--not really her fault as she had to squeeze out."

A welcoming neighborhood feel, but
with above average food. The Pork special with wild rice was exceptional as was the gelato."

place. The service is spectacular. Great food and wine."

Excellent bistro food served
nicely in a pleasant environment. Classics are offered at very reasonable prices, allowing for young and old to sample a taste of France on the spur of the moment!"

My third time to Bistro La Source,
and it's improved over the last two times I went around the time it first opened. Really good appetizers, great pastas, and service, though a bit scattered, was enthusiastic and friendly. Prices aren't bad considering it's downtown, and still better than NYC. 4 adults, 3 appetizers including a 5 cheese/charcuterie plate, 3 pastas, a burger and a bottle of wine came to about 200.00 including tax and generous tip, so that was a fair value as far as I was concerned. Food choices are mostly french, with a little bit of spanish influence thrown in, but burgers and vegetarian options are there as well. We even needed a high chair, noted it in the reservation, and it was already set up when we arrived."
Dined on 11/9/2013
I've dined here three or four
times already. Everything we've had is wonderful. The mussels are fantastic, and their charcuterie selection shines. Try the pasta with rabbit, peas and grana padano, it's heaven. And the lamb shanks fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. Do not miss this place."
Dined on 10/14/2013
Bistro La Source has a good
concept, but it falls short on execution. To be french bistro, the mussels should be served with fries --moules-frites. They are also best steamed (6min), NOT cooked directly in broth--keeps the sweetness locked in. I also suspect they may make their mussels in bulk and keep them on a steam table. Who wants shriveled shellfish? More on execution -- not only was our table's food only luke warm. But the table next to us had the same compliant. Also, another couple complained that some appetizers were mistakenly included on their bill. I truly believe this was an honest mistake by the server. And in all cases, the staff was kind in correcting missteps. But there were alot. Mgmt failures and training gaps."
