Diner Reviews
  • "We had an amazing dinner at Bistro Fou Fou! We ordered a nice bottle of wine and just ate a variety of appetizers. The staff was extremely friendly and amenable. Would definitely go again!"

  • "This is a foodie town and this place holds its own! Excellent traditional and nouvelle French cuisine with great service and ambience! Could make it in NYC!"

  • "We are regulars at FouFou and the service and quality of food is absolutely consistent. If you are a fan of French fare, farm-to-table, and quiet ambience... this will be a homerun for you! The menu changes often enough that you can dine often and not get bored with the food selection and Chef Guilliaume has an incredibly high knowledge of using local ingredients with staple French meals to bring out the most flavor of every dish. Pricing is what you would expect for premium fare in Northern MI. Setting is bistro-style with a bar area with some outdoor seating in season. Highly recommended."

  • "So very much enjoyed our experience. Vegetarian selection outstanding. Drove 60 miles to try out this restaurant and would return again without thinking twice."

  • "I will overall say that the feel for the restaurant was very smooth but elegant. I dressed up for the the event (birthday) and I felt as if it's not just a casual place to go; which isn't a bad thing. Some of my guest thought that there food was a little salty but overall it was a great night."

  • "My husband, myself, and dear old friends enjoyed an excellent meal of whitefish, beet salad, escargot, and dessert. The only drawback, and it will affect us, is how loud it is, as my husband wears a hearing aid and that type of background noise makes it difficult for him to be part of a conversation."

  • "My friend and i decided to meet at a local hot spot and made a reservation just to be sure we could get in. It was during restaurant week and so we thought it would be busy. Our reservation was at 7:45 and we arrived on time. our table wasn't ready so we sat at the bar and our friend Joe took good care of us with a beautiful Sancerre to start the evening off right. At 8:15, we had not been seated yet so we opted for a bar high top for dinner. I literally grabbed a waiter and asked for help and he obliged by starting us off with menus and the specials of the night. chad was a lifesaver and made us feel special and he took very good care of us even on a very busy night. thanks Chad for making our dining experience very special."

  • "Once again, we had a wonderful meal at Bistro Foufou. Oysters and escargot for appetizers, great salad, followed by a veal chop. Chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert. YUM!"
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "The traditional onion soup was excellent with a hint of cognac sweetness. Rabbit leg braised in wine with roast vegetables and mushrooms was tender and savory cooked to perfection. Great desserts and adequate wine list."

  • "Favorites are retained on the menu and seasonal dishes are added. Local foods are used which is a plus. Staff is attentive to the mood and pace of the group dining. This is French bistro food without an attitude."
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "I liked the ambience but I felt the food I ordered was overpriced in terms of quality and quantity. The lobster bisque had no trace of lobster. The cheese plate appetizer was ridiculously skimpy for $15.00 and the $8,00 full glass of wine resulted in a glass less than half full. I came away feeling that the form was fine but the substance was lacking."

  • "All of our food was delicious (Walleye, pork chop and chicken caesar salad), and the restaurant was full and vibrant. Will definitely return."

  • "The chef made a special vegan entree on request. It was delicious!"

  • "Best salmon I've ever had. Great horseradish - honey sauce. Umm!!! My wife had the steak frites and it was wonderful as well. Great food - Great service. We'll definitely be back."

  • "A nice quiet French restaurant tucked away on the main street, ambience was great. Had the scallops and coming from the east coast I can tell you that these were the best I have ever had. My husband had the monkfish and it was perfect, the vegetables and lentils were a perfect pairing for the monkfish. Very nice wine list also. The desserts were out of this world. Will return next time we are in Traverse City,"

  • "We have been to Bistro Foufou before & feel it is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is cooked to perfection, and the service is great--much better than many in the area. I had the steak and my boyfriend had the walleye. Both were outstanding."

  • "This was our first visit to Bistro Foufou, but we'll be back again. The food was fantastic. The service was great; our waitress was extremely knowledgable regarding both the food and wine offerings. We were there early on a Thursday, so the restaurant was not very busy. Can't be sure how the noise level would be if the restaurant was full."

  • "My wife and I decided to check out Bistro Foufou after having tried Chef Guillaume's other wonderful restaurant, La Becasse, and loving it. And we loved it. The space itself is beautiful, stylish and casual at the same time. Certainly this would be a great restaurant for a special occasion, but is also just as wonderful for a night out with friends. The food was spectacular, had an excellent wine list and a large bar selection as well. My wife and I will be returning, and we will bring friends to make sure they experience this place! Loved it. My wife had the special of the day, Beef Burgundy, and I had the Steak Frites with Bernaise sauce. Both were spectacular."

  • "Once again, Bistro Fou Fou, was a great dining experience. We started with Oysters , escargot, onion tart and a flat bread with anchovies, that were all delicious. 2 of us had the Steak and Frites ( BEST Frites in the city!!), 1 Scallops and 1 Monk fish. All the main courses were fantastic, prepared exactly right, hot and flavorful. We finished with the Chocolate/pistachio Pot de Creme and the Brownie. Yummy! Service was very good. We had an 8 month old baby with us ( who was very entertained by the whole experience), and the staff was not at all put out and very helpful. We highly recommend Bistro Fou Fou for couples, family and friends."

  • "We have been to Bistro Foufou several times and have never been disappointed. The seafood dishes are a must try, but everything we have had so far has been excellent."

  • "Service, beyond helpful wine selection, was mediocre. Food was terrific."

  • "My wife and I are always looking for new places to eat. We heard some good reviews of this place. Overpriced-food was underwhelming-service was great. We will try someplace else when we visit TC next time."
    Dined on 8/25/2013
  • "Professional and friendly service, warm ambience, and well-executed menu including French standards like steak tartare, steak frites and mussels frites on a recent visit. The salmon encrusted with horseradish and honey has a balanced flavor profile. Poached pear for dessert is a delight. Wines have been carefully selected and include some good values. Definitely a bistro worth a visit!"

  • "We chose bistro foufou for it's co vie ce to the Old Town Playhouse. We wanted a quick bite to eat before closi g night of Les Miserable. Our dinner was delicious. Between the three of us we had the mussels and pommes frites, green salad, beet salad, sardines and the burger. The mussels were our favorite. Service was just right--not rushed, but fast."

  • "The restaurant had a warm European atmosphere. The traditional food preparation and presentation was excellent , and our waiter was very attentive and helpful, as was the rest of the staff. Wonderful wine selection."

  • "Five of us had dinner at Bistro Foufou recently and had a very good experience. We had the scallops and the salmon, both of which were excellent. We've been there several times before, both for dinner and lunch. The menu has improved since the owner took over as chef. There are never very many people there. I'm not sure why. The prices are not cheap but reasonable for the quality of the food and no more than other similar restaurants in town. We will definitely be back."

  • "We have eaten both lunch and dinner at Bistro Fou Fou and have been impressed in both settings. It counts among our favorite 5 restaurants in Traverse City, if not the top 3."
    Dined on 10/19/2013
  • "The service was efficient. The waiter was adequate, not real friendly but to the point. The food was flavorful and interesting. The overall meal was too much money. The crab cake was the best crab cake my husband has every had."

  • "we are diners of a certain age, and when embarking on an evening out, think about environment and food quality. we ate good to great food, but the noise level in the dining room was at mid-point of our meal too loud. that said, each of us had great food and enjoyed our server person."

  • "We had dinner here on a Saturday night and enjoyed ourselves very much. Foufou is one of several Traverse City restaurants that are changing the downtown into a foodie's destination. Great service and food, loved the dessserts. And our wait-person knew what a foufou is."

  • "We enjoyed this restaurant very much when we recently traveled to Traverse City. We had a Salade Lyonnaise and the burger and frites. Both were enjoyable, but the star of the meal was the burger. It had a smokey flavor and the fried egg was a nice touch. The burger did not need any condiments. The frites were crisp and delicious."

  • "The men in our group were not excited to go to a place called Fou Fou. Which I am told means crazy in French. I doubt many cottagers would know that so the name might hurt them. But the food, service and wine were great so we will go back."

  • "We needed to find a restaurant where we could get a dinner reservation for six people. My wife and I had walked past Bistro Foufou a couple of times while visiting Traverse City and I always told her that we should check it out sometime. I decided to do a quick search while at work on OpenTable and Foufou had a reservation open for six people at 7:30PM! Our waiter did an excellent job of explaining the menu and totally sold me on the pork chop and most of the rest of the table on the scallops. We also decided to get the cheese plate, steak tartar, and a few of us had the corn soup. Everyone loved their food, and even the steak tartar! We'd definitely recommend Bistro Foufou to anyone!"
