Bistro du Midimost interesting nuveau French mealWe had a great Mother's Day dinner. The food was fresh, light and delicious. Service was great. Found out that the French has now incorporated fresh raw food into their cuisine. Quite a surprise. Here I was expecting lots of butter and cream.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good but......This time it was a little loud and service was less than I expected (based on my last visit). It took about 15 min to get an initial drink order in and the apps came prior to the waitress seeing if we wanted wine to accompany. I still love the place and will go back, but these two items were unexpected.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMoverpricedThe food was tasty but sparse. An entree was far from a complete meal. One needs to order appetizers and/or a side dish in order to have a reasonable amount of food. Service was great.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantThis was a beautiful restaurant. The ambiance was appealing, service was top-notch, and food was delicious. Great dining experience overall. We had a great table overlooking the Common. Have been to many of the top 100 Boston restaurants, and they are typically overrated and overpriced, but Bistro Du Midi is exceptional and totally worth it. Also, great menu.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful cuisine and serviceOur third visit, and again consistently excellent food and service. The black bass ceviche appetizer and bouillabaisse entrée were particularly outstanding, and the Grand Marnier soufflé (order in advance) beyond terrific. This time, we particularly appreciated the attention and expertise of the sommelier, who spent time helping us choose a wine, even though we were only order a "pichet" (~1.5 glass carafe); then, when it was too tannic for our taste, he brought new, wider glasses, to help it aerate and develop into a really good wine.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe will return! It was our first time there. Food was delicious; the place is very nice and service impeccable. I recommend it and we will return for sure!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBoston? or Paris?Bistro du Midi is a beautiful restaurant which overlooks Boston Common. With Edith Piaf playing in the background and twinkling lights out the window,I could have been looking at the Tuileries. The food was inventive and delicious. The biggest hits were the pork belly and prosciutto appetizer and the pasta with duck and pork bolognese with a touch of apple. Save room for the souffles which you must order in advance---Delish!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall wonderful eveningTable was waiting, staff was attentive and took the time to explain dishes in detail. Not rushed. Excellent food - tuna tartar appetizer was amazing. Cucumber green tea cocktail was delicious. Chocolate hazelnut dessert was just perfect. A truly enjoyable evening. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing and truly made us feel like he had all the time in the world for us.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest souffléWould come back just to have the chocolate soufflé again and again5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCLASSY BACK BAY RESTAURANTBistro DuMidi is a restaurant for grown-ups, in all the postive aspects of that description. Not fuddy-duddy, not old-fashioned, but well-run, in a lovely setting, excellent food and service, and quiet enough for conversation. The ground floor bar area looks great for drinks/appetizers, and the upstairs is for serious dining. The large windows face the Public Garden, always a lovely sight but particularly so in spring when everything is in bloom. Service is respectful without being overbearing. It's probably overpriced, but you are paying for the convenient location and great ambiance in addition to the food. Definitely recommended for a leisurely dinner, whether with business associates, friends, or a romantic partner.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was an outstanding diningThis was an outstanding dining experience. The dining room is very attractive and has windows overlooking Boylston St. We both had excellent fish entrees. And the chocolate souffle for dessert added to the pleasure. The service was attentive but not intrusive.
We would definitely go there again when in Boston.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBook Club EveningTypical book club gathering - 1 read the book, 4 saw the movie, 1 did neither. But we were delighted to be together after four months apart, and Bistro du Midi delivered. We were seated in a semi-private upstairs dining alcove around an antiqued farm table. We enjoyed BdM's always interesting takes on peasant food, their terrific and lcreatively atypical wine list, great service and their team of servers/waiters/bartenders who were articulate, well-read and able to offer good recommendations for the next book our group doesn't read together.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSouth of France in BostonTables by the windows overlook the Boston Public Garden, and the food sparkles with fresh ingredients and intriguing flavors. Piquant aioli balanced the sweetness of baby artichokes, the beets in a salad were perfectly cooked, and the salad itself was served at the right temperature--not ice cold. Tuna tartare was spicy and unctuous, scallops were crisp on the outside and tender within. Our waiter had a sense of humor an and instinct for when we needed him. The wine list ranged from very reasonable wines to very extravagant ones--and the extensive choice of Italian wines reminded us that Italy is next to the Midi. Even though it was evening, our meal felt full of sunshine.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent, wait staffFood was excellent, wait staff attentive, but there was a large private party that slowed the service.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGoing back again soon! It's art when a bar tender mixes cocktails that are smooth and tasty. We tried all the cocktails on the menu and loved them all. Same can be said about the food. All in all, a tremendous experience . Thinking of making reservations for next week again.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAmong other very good points,Among other very good points, our waiter was probably the best one we've had in several years. A perfect evening.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love Bistro du Midi. KeepWe love Bistro du Midi. Keep the secret, since even though it has one of the best spots in town and good food is never too crowded.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great meal. The serversAnother great meal. The servers were just really nice and warm, even when my parents sent back a dish to be reheated and at one point our server brought the wrong pasta dish. The souffles of apology more than made up for it! My parents had a wonderful anniversary and loved their relaxing and delicious meal. Love this place.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I dined at BistroMy wife and I dined at Bistro du Midi twice this past week, while in Boston, and we both found the experience very gratifying. The food, help with the menu, and the overall service were outstanding. They even wrote up a recipe for a favorite cocktail. The view, now that the sun is setting later, was tremendous as well. We will definitely be back, hopefully again and again when in town.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAte here five months ago whenAte here five months ago when we were in Boston (from Philly) and loved it so much we returned this visit. Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere, great menu, delicious food, great wine selection and advice from sommelier, wonderful service (Daniel S.). A really outstanding restaurant. We will return on our next trip to Boston.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSavoring SpringAnother superb dining experience at Bistro du Midi. On a lovely spring evening, we appreciated our window table overlooking the Public Garden. We started by sharing the steamed mussels. For dinner we enjoyed a special of house-made tagliatelle with morels, trumpet mushrooms, asparagus, fava beans, peas and sun-dried tomatoes. Divine! A hake dish included many of the same spring veggies, as well as a "Citronelle Bouillon" that elevated the humble fish to extraordinary. Service was flawless, getting us to our 7:30 curtain in plenty of time.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent restaurant. TheExcellent restaurant. The chef prepared a gluten free tasting menu. Wonderful scallop appetizer4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDuck here was amazing! TheDuck here was amazing! The beignets were also great! Would come back...3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiance!Loved the location, ambiance of the restaurant and their large beautiful windows over looking the commons. The food and service was outstanding! My new favorite place!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAs restaurant where upon orderingAs restaurant where upon ordering a steak, the waitress says "our chef only serves that as medium rare, is that ok with you?" brings me a lot of respect for the food establishment. Well done Bistro du Midi !!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I had a fantasticMy wife and I had a fantastic experience with the five course tasting menu. It was a bit fish heavy, but we love seafood so we had no complaints. A fantastic journey of varying textures and tastes. Service was spot on. The only issue for us, was that it was a bit too dark and the seating leads to close quarters with your neighbors.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was not our first timeThis was not our first time dining at Bistro du Midi, but the food was exceptional. There is a French esthetic, and a light touch! And I always appreciate a souffle for desert. The noise level was pretty high, perhaps due to poor acoustics, perhaps due to a noisy large table next to us.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGood times! This was our first time there. We went for restaurant week. Food was terrific, upstairs was nicely lit, and put together. The noise was terrible however. It was so loud! Jon our southern waiter was probably the best server I have had in the 3 yrs. Don't bother dressing up like my wife and I did. There was a couple next to us who the gentleman had sneakers, and jeans on, and his wife workout gear. I don't know if I would go back but if I did, I would ask for Jon's section, and most definetly go in jeans!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, service and wine selectoinFood, service and wine selectoin were outstanding as they always are. One of our favorite Boston restaurants.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I have had dinnerMy wife and I have had dinner many times at Midi and the experience was always excellent.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro du Midi is one of Boston'sBistro du Midi is one of Boston's best restaurants! The food was very well prepared; the mussels were the best I've ever had with a bit of coconut milk, the fish was nicely seared but moist inside, and the lemon-pistachio tart was great. The atmosphere has hints of Provence without looking staged with a wonderful view over the Public Garden. And our server was knowledgeable and attentive without hovering. We will definitely be back!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMwent restaurant week, a bitwent restaurant week, a bit too noisey for us olies with hearing aids but the food was great, I loved my dessert, chocolate mousee with bergamont ice cream, yummy3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingFood was amazing, service was even better. I'll DEFINITELY return and would recommend this place to anyone.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSommelier made a great recommendatiSommelier made a great recommendation for a wine that would work with my friend's fish and my steak selection. Mussels were perfect with aromatic and tasty cooking juices. Meal was altogether delicious and experience pleasant.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFor my birthday dinner andFor my birthday dinner and Restaurant Week, my parents and I decided to dine here. The steamed mussels (appetizer) were delicious, with a deep, savory broth. At our table, we had coalfish and skirt steak (entrees), both wonderfully tender. The desserts were spot-on in sweetness for our palates. (They also wrote a birthday message on my plate, which was very kind.) Bistro du Midi also has a very extensive and varied wine list. The servers are gracious and helpful, but not intrusive. Upon request, we were seated at a table overlooking the Commons, and by nightfall, the view was magical. Interiors are warm, with a working fireplace on the upper level, and some private rooms for larger parties as well.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorites in BostonThis was my second visit to Bistro du Midi and it was even better than my first experience. Our bartender was more than accommodating and Ray took great care of us in the dining room. My bouillabaisse was phenomenal and my date couldn't stop talking about her pork chop (still to this day :) ). The tuna tartare is highly recommended and the Basilic cocktail is soooo good before dinner while you peruse the menu.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic ambiance. The serviceFantastic ambiance. The service was excellent and the tasting menu was the perfect choice3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service, combinedExcellent service, combined with refined food. We both thought the celery root soup was perfect. The Provencal Beef Daube was tender, with overtones of orange in the sauce. The duck was also very, very tasty. The rhubarb berry crumble with basil ice cream was a surprising pairing that was delicious. Overall, a fabulous dinning experience for a New Yorker and Torontonian with high expectations.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have loved this restaurantWe have loved this restaurant from the time it opened, several years ago. The menu is interesting with complex offerings; the wine list is very good and reasonable, the wait staff is knowledgable and knows how to be available without being smarmy. We have introduced Bistro to many out-of-town friends, who come to Boston, looking for a great restaurant experience. And, they continue to return on their own, sometimes twice in the same week.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWent out to Bistro du MidiWent out to Bistro du Midi for my dad's birthday and had an incredible time. For the party of 6, we were given a private room with a huge table and incredible view of the Commons. The service was impeccable and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend to anyone for a special occasion or romantic dinner.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMProvence on BoylstonJust what I was looking for -- a comfortable environment, great food, wonderful service. And, as I was dining, it started to snow lightly -- so beautiful, as if I had ordered it! The tuna tartar was delicious -- seasoned perfectly. And the bouillabaisse was so light, full of fresh fish and shellfish. the broth was exquisite! While they had some wonderful desserts, when I asked for fresh berries off the menu with a dollop of whipped cream, a plate materialized with some of the freshest berries and tastiest cream ever.
Overall, a perfect meal and experience.1/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and service. WineGreat food and service. Wine list extensive. Only slight problem - Very Small portions especially for appetizers! Otherwise would be 5 star all the way.1/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional, as always. ItExceptional, as always. It is always a pleasure to dine at Du Midi and it is our restaurant of choice whenever we come to Boston. The service is always impeccable and the seafood dishes are creative and a cut above the best seafood dishes I have elsewhere. The upstairs room is attractive and the nighttime view is always enjoyable.12/17/2012 12:00:00 AMWhat a delight!I went to Bistro du Midi with two coworkers during Restaurant Week. What a great place! The servers are extremely accommodating and patient. They all greet you with a smile. The restaurant is smaller than I had expected, but it was a comfortable cozy. And the food. Forget about it. I had the steamed mussels, statler chicken and gianduja palette. Everything was beautifully served and extremely delicious.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
