  • "We truly had an amazing meal here. Each and every bite was a special experience. The chef goes to great lengths to surprise you with flavors and textures that are really amazing and profound. In addition, we had a wonderful waiter with an incredible knowledge of the food and the fascinating processes the chef used to create the dish."

  • "Firstly, the food is truly great and the menu is filled with interesting dishes. Also, great desserts. On the downside - to us - was part of the service. Our waiter was in sales mode and seemed more interested in repeating additional items than answer my particular question. We often decide between appetizer + entree or entree + dessert (a three-course meal can often be too heavy). This seemed completely lost on the waiter who wouldn't let up on getting us to add dishes. He was almost condescending regarding the wine selection. We're very interested in wine and sometimes like to make certain pairings. I'm not necessarily interested in getting a sneer when doing so. It picked up afterwards and was probably an anomaly, but still a shame."

  • "Great view of the public gardens from the first floor bar. Service was exceptional and the food is top notch. The braised lamb was exceptional, as was the chocolate souffle."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Bistro du Midi. We missed having bouillabaisse on a recent trip to Provence so I had to have it here and it was everything it should be from all the delicious seafood to the fish soup base. My husband started with the lamb tartare and had grilled lamb chops for his entree both of which he loved. I started with the foie gras in rhubarb coulis which was also wonderful. We both had chocolate souffles which were so rich and worth every calorie! The staff was attentive and very pleasant. And, we had a lovely view of the Boston Commons. We can't wait to go back."

  • "I chose this restaurant for my husband's birthday. They have us a great table over-looking the park. Nice decor and the service was wonderful. Food is excellent. Great wine list and yummy soufflé for dessert. Would definitely recommend. Noticed some nice private dining rooms and will think about this place for our next group dinner. On the pricey side but not outrageous."

  • "For the price, I was expecting everything to be better. The ambiance was okay. The server was slow to check on us to take our order and the helper was at our table every other minute taking every fork and plate as we finished. The food was okay... I had the monkfish and it was very salty. The bolognese with veal and sausage over cavatelli was dry. Our starters were not that memorable. The dessert was pretty good."

  • "Came for a special romantic meal while on short trip to Boston. Knew it was expensive and actually was not as expensive as I first thought, bill was just under $200 after nice tip, though we did have benefit that one of us ordered from a special July 4 menu which was an excellent deal. Service I gave a 5 stars to - staff was attentive and super friendly and provided help with the wine list and encouragement and helped us find a bottle they genuinely recommended at $60. Ambience very nice, neighborhood awesome, very good experience. Didn't give 5 stars overall because the food was very good but not amongst favorites in my life out of a handful of upscale restaurant experiences. Good, fresh quality food, just not on that top, memorable scale."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at Bistro du Midi a dozen times in 2014. It's our favorite restaurant in Boston. However tonight, not only did it not live up to our billing as top restaurant in Boston, but it was also downright awful. The roasted chicken, an entree that is typically superb (I know, chicken at a restaurant is an odd thing to rave about, but trust me, the chicken is typically worthy of praise), was way off. For starters, it was far too salty, and it lacked flavor. I can't describe exactly why, but it wasn't good. When we mentioned it to the waiter, he didn't seem to care. Again, we normally love the restaurant, but tonight's experience was very underwhelming. My tongue is still swollen."

  • "Went for dinner before a play at the opera house. It was an early dinner on saturday so the restuarant was not busy. Server was slightly overbearing since we were one of his only tables. The food was incredible and the restuarant was beautiful. I had the lamb neck and the meat was some of the best i have had. Definitely will go back."

  • "Upscale place great for a special date night. More towards the expensive side. The main course was definitely worth it. Dessert was delicious also."

  • "The upstairs provided a more family environment with a mix of family, friends and couples. Downstairs had a more vibrant younger crowd around a bigger bar area. It would fit almost any age group and the food was delicious!"

  • "The grilled octopus is very tasty and unusual. good wine list, and good sommeilier advice. the main diniing room on 2nd floor has a lovely ambience, however the side room off the main room is quiet unless you have a loud party next to you. Unless you need a romantic tete a tete, as for a table in the main room."

  • "A creative menu of French oriented courses in a very good atmosphere and ambiance. A wide selection of selected wines, albeit that prices are rather high. A good place for a intimite dinner for two or to enjoy a good dinner with family or friends."

  • "Having dined here before had high hopes. Reservation was honored promptly and seating was fine. However food and service were far less impressive than our last visit. Waiter was on his third day but was friendly and hard working, so a senior waiter popped by often; he was very knowledgeable but rather brusque. Tea-infused salmon app was unremarkable. Also had both of the salads and the endive/arugula was clearly (and sadly) the standout of the entire evening. Bouillabaisse was served in a roux-based sauce, not a broth, which didn't work well. Beet gnocchi arrived 5 minutes after other entrees but nice texture and flavor. Cavatelli Bolognese was bland in a meager portion. Desserts were beautifully presented and tasty, but not great."

  • "If you want elegance the upstairs restaurant will not disappoint. As a main course I had the monkfish. Each season the chef prepares it differently. It is always delicious! The downstairs offers a different menu, it's more casual and it has lovely outdoor dining. You might think you have gone to Paris with the beautiful location by Boston's historic Public Garden!"

  • "The food at Bistro du Midi is truly outstanding. They make no compromises when it comes to ingredients or preparation and it's always delicious. Don't come expecting americanized versions of the dishes - this is true Provencal food and it's fabulous!"

  • "THis is our second trip to Bistro Du Midi. It was my birthday; they took extra care in delivering a great experience. I had the Seared Duck Breast, Chickpea Croquette, Black Olive, Almonds, Lavender Jus - this Jus was so delicate & flavorful. My duck was cooked to perfection. My fiance had the Cavatelli Pasta, Veal Bolognese, Rabbit Sausage. The flavors are balanced beautifully. We started with the Seared Foie Gras, Rhubarb Coulis, Native Strawberry - which is amazing and the small sliced strawberry on top simply burst with flavor. To end I decided to go with Raspberry Orange Beignets, & White Chocolate Sauce - A perfect ending. We had one hicup - where fries did not arrive in time but they compensated by bringing us a nice digestif. "

  • "We were told that their duck breast was amazing. That is true, and I'm someone who dines out frequently in Paris. Our appetizers, tuna tartare and hamachi (a thinly sliced white fish) were beautifully prepared; so was the dessert soufflé. You can order many of their wines in a pichet (quarter bottle) or a demi (half bottle), so you're- not confined to a glass or a whole bottle. The locale is great too, overlooking the Boston Common. Overall, a gem! "

  • "Best dishes were fois gras with a rhubarb puree, lamb neck cooked 6 hours in red wine served with a goat cheese polenta, and fresh beet gnochi. Special of the day - softshell crab was ordinary and disappointing. Pasta with bolognese and rabbit sausage also not alive enough. Chocolate souffle ordered 30-min prior to serving was what it should be. Grateful for the celebratory serving if dessert honoring our special occasion. Wished the waiter had a slightly better grasp of some basic pronunciations such as not saying the "c" on "blanc". A "Bon appetite" or any other French gesture would also be good - like to feel more one is in a French establishment - but still - a very good meal. Memorable. "

  • "I went here with my girlfriend on Tuesday May 27th to celebrate her graduating law school. The service from everyone but my waiter was excellent. We both felt that he was rather "brushing us off" and took us for granted. Our cocktails came out close to 30 minutes after we ordered them (we had a 7 PM reservation and the restaurant was not busy). The food runner was great and very informative, however our server forgot to input one of our sides so we were without a part of our meal. Overall the price was too high for the quality of service, perhaps the servers need to be friendlier when we are spending $150+ for 2 people - just my opinion."

  • "I've been to Bistro du Midi several times, and the lack of any service orientation will make this my last. It's unfortunate, as the food is very good, creative and well executed, but the service completely detracts from the experience. This is the second time this has happened, so not simply one particular server, simply focus. "

  • "My girlfriend and I made a Saturday night reservation recently at Bistro du Midi. First off, the service was fantastic! Our waitress knew exactly when to check in with us -- we ordered a bottle of wine and she stretched it perfectly from the first course until we took our final bites. We opted for the 5-course tasting menu. It was a little pricey (relatively cheap compared to many other upscale Boston restaurants), but hands down it was worth every penny. I am not a fan of clams -- first dish, razor clams! They were unbelievable. Each dish only got better and they were spaced out perfectly. We had a 7:30pm reservation and we ended up not leaving until after 9:30pm. The value was certainly in both the food and the impeccable service."

  • "Always wonderful. The service is warm and friendly. Lamb tartare is fantastic. We both had fish:hake for him and monkfish for me. Classic French preparation with a modern twist. The sommelier is really helpful and likes to share his knowledge of wine."

  • "I went there to celebrate my birthday dinner. I made a few specific requests and the restaurant kindly accommodated all of them. Except when we didn't order dessert/tea/coffee, our waiter SIGHED really loudly as soon as he turned around. Then he came back to ask AGAIN if we were sure we don't want any dessert/tea/coffee. We had brought in our birthday cake to be served (note it costs $5 per person for plating services, which was also ridiculous given that we were a large party) so we didn't need dessert. He very well knew that. I still tipped him 20%, but I was really upset by the fact that he was passively aggressive and rude to me and my friends. I will not go back for french dining experience; I'd much prefer L'Espalier. "

  • "There was a group nearby in a small restaurant with a photographer taking multiple pictures with a very strong flash. Although the staff asked him to stop he did not. Management should have put an end to it. It was exceedingly disturbing to all nearby. The group could have easily done their photos outside."

  • "To celebrate my daughter's graduation I requested for a chef's table through opentable. The first question this waiter asked incredulously was whether we wanted a chef's table! Didnt show enthusiam nor indicate that it was going to be an awesome experience, etc. I inquired about the lamb neck, and his curt response without making eye contact was "it is delicious"!, and I had to ask whether there was enough meat, etc. When my oldest daughter was selecting our wine, his inappropriate response to her was whether she would be drinking with us!?! While serving plates or drinks he did not excuse himself while reaching over. Basically, he was rude, lacked warmth and enthusiam and had substandard social graces. Too bad because the food was great!"
