  • How can you make Salmon tasteless?

We went for the pre-theater dinner, which has limited choices. This is generally not a problem. But it seems that the restaurant has special dishes for this option. The butternut squash was OK, though a bit sweet for our taste. The salad was uninspired greens without even a tomato or cucumber slice. The chicken was fine. The salmon was tasteless. The cream puffs were fine, the berry mousse seemed just like a jello dish. Perhaps the regular menu is better. This is too bad, since the location directly across from Ford's Theater makes it otherwise an attractive choice.

I was impressed by the nice selection of french dishes. I enjoyed the french onion soup and steak frites. I would like to go back again and try the cassoulet and some of the other items as well. The service was really good and the price was reasonable.

Not the same Bistro we remember. Our waiter looked VERY young and acted VERY uncertain. He didn't know the menu very well and certainly not the French. He did double-check the order before turning it in and had it correct. A more experienced waiter would have checked whether we had theater tickets (we did) with Ford's across the street. I returned the Cosmo -- never do that, but it tasted like watered-down cranberry juice. Food was very good, although the frites were not done in the French style. House pinot noir was mediocre and the usual DC over-priced dab of red in a cheap white wine glass. We'll think twice about going back to this old standby as we wonder if it's under new, still learning, management.

The prix fixe pré-theater was a mixed bag. Salmon was somewhat tasteless and came with a glob of rice. Dessert was not strawberry mousse but vanilla mousse with some strawberry preserves on top. HOWEVER, my husband ordered from the regular menu - what a difference. Great mussels and pommel frites, nice salad. I would definitely go again but not bother with fixe prix. The wine specials were also tasty. Service was attentive but not pushy; we had plenty of time to get to the theater. A nice option, conveniently located.

There is much to like about this restaurant: it has a great central location, a fairly extensive menu to please almost any palate, well prepared and interesting food, and an excellent early-bird prix0fixe menu. The service was reasonable and wines by the glass were reasonably priced for the area and quality.

A disappointing visit. Most of the red wines on the wine list were unavailable. The white we ordered was served warm. The food was ok, nothing bad, nothing terribly distinctive. It had that vibe restaurants give off when the owner or head chef is taking the night off and other folks are filling in. Sorry, but at a reasonably serious price point I'm not willing to put up with that vibe.

I used to love this place, so you can imagine my disappointment when I took a few out-of-towners there recently for what turned out to be the worst DC dinner I've ever had. Service was bad, food was even worse. Dry, flavorless, poor presentation and way overpriced for the quality we received. Seriously think the restaurant owes me an apology and a refund. To add insult to injury, I was truly embarrassed in front of my visitors for recommending this restaurant. Not sure what's going on with the management, but clearly not all change is good. I called to speak with the owner and waited more than a week for a return call prior to posting this review. Still waiting for the call.

Bistro d'Oc i listed in several guide books as a good place to eat in downtown Washington and so it proved. It is an excellent neighbourhood French bistro-style restaurant,as its name implies. The welcome was friendly, the atmosphere as one would expect and the food ad wine very good. The service was very attentive and cheerful, with a bit of friendly banter about football with a waiter from the Cameroons wearing an English shirt. We especially enjoyed the tournedos de porc, the Toulouse sausage and the cassoulet, although the size of the latter was enough for at least two people and so could not be finished. We had a nice bottle of Madiran. A good experience.

We were one of the first to arrive on a Friday evening. Our drinks came right away. We both had specials for an appetizer. My sausage on lettuce, red beets and a bit of mustard was excellent. My wife had smoked salmon on toast that had just the right amount of smoke. I had the Cassoulet Languedoc. It was a very tasty mix of duck, sausage, lamb and pork that came in a clay bowl. The beans were done just right - not too soft and not too hard. The broth had a strong taste of all the different meats. It was an ample portion. My wife had a sausage with fries. It was more than she could finish but tasted great. We shared a creme brulee with raspberry for dessert. Service was great all evening.

A late dinner at 9:15 did not live up to our expectations. We had been to the Bistro quite a few times before. The menu was less interesting than before, and the service was not good. With more waiters than tables with diners at that hour, it should not have been necessary to call for a waiter. The plate of charcuterie was at its usual tasty level, but several mains of sausage accompanied by something were not much. Wile decaf espresso rarely is as good as the real stuff, here it was undrinkable: We sent all four cups back. Hoping for better next time.

My friend and I went to Bistro d'Oc for dinner before a movie at E Street cinema, allowing enough time. While we had reserved in advance, we were shown to a table right at the host stand, in front of a closet door used by staff. Our server greeted us and we ordered quickly from the pre-theater and specials menu. After 30 minutes we had not received the soup or salad, so I flagged down the server and asked him what happened. He told me that the entire order he had submitted to the kitchen had been lost. We told him when we had to leave, but it still took some time before they brought us the first course. We had to eat the main course in 10 minutes. The waiter also forgot the dessert (included in the pre-theater menu).

I chose this restaurant because they served cassoulet (my idea of French comfort food) and I was glad I did. If you like really thick cassoulet with beans, sausage, and duck that you can stand up a fork in (my favorite style) this is the place; if you like it soupy this is not for you. I also like escargot, which I rarely order, but was glad I did here. The charcouterie place was also enjoyable. The duck confit was a touch on the dry side, but still quite nice. There is a very limited wine list but the 2009 Bordeaux from Bourg (right bank) is drinking well. Service - well, we had a brand new waiter with limited English and no French, but it didn't really detract from the meal. I will go back again.

We took friends here for dinner & they can't wait to come back. The gazpacho here is thick & lush and worth your attention, but summer is almost over & it may not be on the menu much longer. I had the Toulouse sausage in a red wine & mushroom sauce that was delicious. My wife had the foie de veau, which is not easy to find & often not prepared properly. Bistro d'OC cooks it perfectly. We split a chocolate mousse for desert & it was excellent. This is a fine bistro that serves the kind of food one finds in little towns in France. If you have not tried it, you are missing a bet.

We just returned from a week in Paris and this restaurant could have been transported from a back street in the Marais. Great bread, tasty sauces, wines from the region (hence the OC) and good service made for an enjoyable evening. I had the housemade sausage (slightly spicy) my spouse had mussels with a tarragon cream sauce (both were specials) and our teen son had the flank steak. Due to our own error, we arrived one hour late for our reservation, but were treated courteously and promptly seated. We received good advice on wine selection. Although busy on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was not full. The tin ceiling contributes to a noisy atmosphere but for good (sometimes loud) evening with friends, this would be perfect.

This is a cozy little Bistro and truly French. The food was fabulous! I had the French onion soup which was wonderful and cheesy, the crispy duck was tender and full of flavor, and the best crème brulee! Totally delicious. They could use some extra help or tweaking of wait staff. They seemed to be short staffed, although very friendly. I will definitely return and recommend to friends.

I've been to Bistro d'oc three times now. The first time was a great experience for both food and service, but the second and third times were very disappointing. The service was lousy - each time our orders came out wrong - and the food has gotten significantly worse. This time, with my family it was just awful and a horrible value for any amount of money. Everything was just bad. I'm very disappointed because this place has so much potential and it has been good in the past. This place is right in the neighborhood of where I work, but sadly I will look elsewhere for my bistro fix.

My daughter and I chose Bistro D'Oc for their fixed price theater special before we went to a show at the Warner Theater- $25 per person includes a glass of wine, soup or salad, and a dessert . The back of the restaurant was very noisy. Eventually we sat in the front section, very pretty, but had to be quite adamant with the hostess. The food was what you would expect for the price. My daughter's salmon with red peppers was nice, my pork chop with sweet potatoes was also nice and not tough as I saw another reviewer comment. Appetizers and desserts were disappointing. My daughter's "salad" was a bowl of lettuce although the dressing was quite good. Desserts were not homemade and cheaply made. Service was too quick not letting us finish.

All the previous comments made me think that Bistro d'OC would be an actual French restaurant in DC. However, the restaurant was under my expectation. I lived in Toulouse for 5 years and I know exactly what the food from that region looks like and how the service in a French restaurant should be. I ordered a Salmon and it came with rice. NEVER in my life, I had or saw rice in a French dish. The salmon was OK. Also, my food was served in a dessert dish. And every five minutes the server was coming to ask if we were done. I couldn't even have a normal conversation with my girlfriend because he was interrupting us all the time. I would expect that kind of service in pub or an American restaurant but not in a French one.
