Bistro d'OCDinner before theaterWe dined here before going to Ford's Theater. The food was great as was the service. We arrived at 6:00 pm had a great meal and were able to get to the 7:30 show with no problem and without feeling rushed..5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a favoriteThis restaurant is an "old world" favorite, not hip and sleek but rather something like one would find in Paris. I love their pates and have always enjoyed this perennial favorite of mine in downtown DC. We had the pre-theatre menu before going to Ford's Theater.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent southern French foodI've eaten there twice for lunch and it was great. This is a French bistro, but one with southwestern French flavor not Paris--i.e., the area called Languedoc or the department of Aude, close to the Pyrenees. I particularly like the appetizer of lamb brains in garlic and butter--where else in DC can you get that--which appears to stay on the menu? Even the squeamish will enjoy this great flavor. The butternut squash soup with sour cream is another wonderful appetizer. The basic entree menu doesn't change much and is pretty standard, but they bring a big board with the day's specialties that tend to be different--e.g., a mixture of sausages with a sauerkraut that is not strong on the vinegar as you would find in Germanic countries.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic French BistroBistro D'oc is a classic French bistro owned and operated by a French family. This is an excellent place to experience a real Bistro, a name much overused in the American dining scene. The food is excellently prepared, classic Bistro food. The wine list is dominantly Languedoc (Rhone like) and very reasonably priced. Ask one of the brothers to help you select a wine according to your tastes as these wines are little know in the US not easy to find in your local wine shop.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper French food downtownAcross from Ford's Theater, steps from The Mall, in the midst of downtown, Bistro d'OC is a quiet, dependable, quaint location for good French cuisine. Extensive menu of daily specials and solid wine list.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA French reviewWe went to the Bistrot d'Oc with my colleagues to celebrate our work. In the group, I'm French and it's not easy to find nice and authentic French cuisine in USA but this restaurant was really good. The food was authentic, and luckily it was mostly dishes from the South (my region). The waiter (an american) spoke really well French, it was a really bonus.
Good and authentic french cuisine.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe duck pâté was truly incredible. The duck pâté was truly incredible. Fantastic tasting and more than adequate portion. We also ordered the mixed cheese plate. Good selection; I'm not a fan of Brie but really enjoyed theirs. Wasn't really meant to be combined, but having the goat cheese with the pâté really made the pepper shine. We shared the butterfly hangar steak...yum!! Perfectly seasoned and the Roquefort sauce was a delicious addition.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've never felt more welcomed. As a party of ten we were thrilled to be able to eat and get to Ford's Theater in time for the show. The service was outstanding. Our only comment would be the pork was a little too tough to enjoy. The rest of food was very good. Loved the butternut squash soup and the desserts were wonderful. Would definitely go again. Once again, the service and making the reservations were fantastic.
We would highly recommend the Bistro, especially in a very touristy part of town.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro d'OC - Washington, DCThe restaurant was recommended to us by a local friend and we were not disappointed. Although our table was not ready at 1PM per our lunch reservation, we opted to eat at the bar and were quite happy with the service and food selections. The food and drink prices are fair and good value for the theater's location next to Ford's Theater.
Our bartender/waiter made excellent lunch and wine recommendations, the pace of service was just right and the after-lunch coffee delicious. The fact that the restaurant is next to a major history buff/tourist attraction makes it ideal for visitors to DC and local theater patrons alike.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I make a pointMy wife and I make a point of dining at Bistro D'Oc every time we visit Washington, but in recent years it has been for mid-week lunches, which are always impressive This visit was for dinner, and we were even more impressed. The escargots were marvelous. The Caesar salad was delightfully rich, and the hangar steak was excellent. It is the consistency of the cuisine and the friendly service that most impresses us: No matter what time of year or time of day we visit, Bistro D'Oc is always excellent.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen one of my favorite restaurantsBeen one of my favorite restaurants for many years. And I could have a conversation at my table without yelling!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good French bistro menu,Very good French bistro menu, very tasty though my pork was ever so slightly overdone, making it a little tough, the sauce however was a perfect mushroom cream sauce. It was delectable. The lighter side is equally as good, a special artichoke hearts salad with a mustard vinaigrette, was equally tasty. Overall, the food was very filling, so much so that we had to pass on desert, but it did look very good. The price was also a surprise, very reasonable for two.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNice dinner, great locationFood was great, service great, menu was nicely done and there was a great mix of traditional French food with some twists as well as some meals that appeal to people willing to reach out and try something new such as lamb brains (I was not that wild though) I had the in house made sausage and it was great. My wife had had the hangar steak with blue cheese sauce, which was nicely done as well. Loved the location central DC across the street from Ford's Theater.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mussels for dinner.Great mussels for dinner. Some of the best that we have ever eaten. We will be back and will be telling others!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a great choice forThis is a great choice for pre-theater dining. The $25 pre-theater menu is a very good value. The location across the street from Ford's Theater is great, the ambiance is nice, the service is prompt and professional, and the food is quite good. A glass of wine, an appetizer, and entree, and a dessert are all included. We've returned here numerous times and will continue to do so.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience --Great dining experience -- tables far enough apart to allow for quiet, private conversation. It is a true gem in the n'hood and in DC. It is delightful to go to a Bistro that makes one feel like they are far from the tourists.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBest local French cuisineBest local French cuisine you could find within walking distance of business meetings.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA French bistro with authenticA French bistro with authentic menu items and ambiance. No frills, just delicious food.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Favorite DC Bistro! Our very favorite bistro. Great food, congenial service, good wine. We bring all our visiting from out of town friends to have a really great DC meal at a good price. The whole menu is good - but order off the board for e best meals of the night.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemThis was our second time visiting and we are still quite impressed. The servers are terrific and the food is outstanding. This is the best bang for the buck for quality French food in Washington.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and wonderfulGreat service and wonderful food. We ordered the cheese appetizer and the assorted meats appetizer to have with wine before going to the theater. Delicious! The house wines are not to rave about, but the onion soup was to die for!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI love Bistro D'Oc. We invitedI love Bistro D'Oc. We invited a couple of friends to dine there and all four of us enjoyed our meals very much.
I love the feel of the restaurant - it is very warm and inviting. Romantic too.
I had the Salmon curry dish and loved it. I have enjoyed the tripe and cassoulet (sp) in the past as well.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful to have such a niceWonderful to have such a nice restaurant dire toy across the street from Ford's ?Theater.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy and IntimateBistro d'OC was a great find - I found reasonably priced dishes and an intimate atmosphere. It is convenient for Ford's Theatre patrons sitting across from the main entrance.
We were immediately drawn to the price-fixed Pre/Post Dinner options where for $25 you may select an appetizer or soup, a main dish and dessert, all accompanied by a glass of wine. My wife and I both chose the squash soup, which was piping hot and very good, and came out quickly to our table. My entree was the pork with a red wine sauce: it was flavorful and very tender. (I just had to discard some fatty sections.) My wife had the tasty chicken stew which filled her up quickly. We tried both desserts and enjoyed them.
We will definitely go back.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant is a gem --This restaurant is a gem -- located close to the national museums and historic buildings, with a cozy and romantic atmosphere, excellent service, good variety of food selections, and well presented and delicious food. Definitely deserves return visits.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place with great foodsince this was our first visit, I was apprehensive when there were only a few tables occupied right at noon (prime brunch/lunch time). However, the food was great, service quick and friendly, prices very reasonable. Will definitely come here again, don't know why it wasn't busier.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to Bistro d'Oc with myWent to Bistro d'Oc with my parents who were in town for the weekend. It was a great dining experience- not overly crowded, comfortable atmosphere and great, not overly-priced food! We didn't get the theater menu, but that's a good deal as well.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly outstandingThis is a new favorite. I was very pleasantly surprised after a bit of initial shell shock because of the appearance. The quirky decor somewhat reminded me of restaurants in Paris. The menu was fairly unique- fabulous lambs brains starter. The feel is cozy and unassuming. The service was fast, knowledgeable and attentive. The prices are much more reasonable than other French restaurants in Washington. I will be returning.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall good experience.Overall good experience. All of us ordered the pre-theater menu which is a good value. Two of us had salmon - which was a little bland. One had pork which was very good. Apps were also good. We like the ambiance and professional, but friendly service. Excellent location for Ford's Theater. Will return but will order a la carte off regular menu.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Battle for MalpasseBistro d'OC was easy to get to from Alexandria. The atmosphere was very french, not crowded, the meals were outstanding and the owner assisted us in selecting a great wine to go with our meal. he was very personable and knowledgeable of his wines..3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were late coming into WashingtonWe were late coming into Washington and were afraid that we would have to miss dinner in order to see the performance at Ford's Theater (right across the street). The wait staff at Bistro d'OC made sure that we enjoyed a thoroughly delicious prix-fixe with minutes to spare! Great food, and great service!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGetting betterThis place is getting better with age. The service is definitely getting more attentive and the food is very consistent. It's better than its bistro cousins further NW. Great pre-theatre menu and it's across the street from Ford's and two blocks from both Shakespeare Theatres as well as Verizon Center.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways consistent and good,Always consistent and good, with pretty traditional French bistro staples with a hint of exotic... French owner and staff lend to authentic atmosphere. Great charcurterie plate for very good price. Sit at the bar and munch on that with a glass of house rosé.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time atThis was our first time at Bistro d'Oc. We made a reservation there for dinner before a show at Ford's Theatre. We got there half an hour late (I called to let them know), but the maitre d' made sure that we got served in plenty of time to make the show. The food we ordered was excellent, and the menu had lots from which to choose. The only flaw in the service was that the waitress took a long time to bring our first glasses of wine and forgot the water we requested. We'll go back.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful authentic French foodOne of the best cassoulets I have had in or outside of France. The brandade on toast with salad special the night I ate there was also excellent.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMCozy, Casual and DeliciousWe visited DC for a long weekend and had dinner at Bistro d'OC. I would highly recommend this little French restaurant across from Ford's Theatre. It is rustic and cozy and the wait staff are very attentive. My date and I were expecting a more intimate dining experience but Bistro d'OC is a busy place. There were lots of pepole coming in and out as it's obviously a hot spot for locals as well as visitors. The food was authentic and delicious. No complaints on the braised veal and beef au poivre or the desserts we ordered. We'll be sure to visit again.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWONDERFUL SURPRISEI chose this restaurant because we had less than 2 weeks to book an engagement party for 9 on a Saturday night. I liked the menu, description and the open table reviews. My 2 "gourmand" sons who live in d.c. questioned my choice, but I kept it. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised. Everyone found the restaurant charming - an authentic French bistro atmosphere. They were very accommodating to me in a wheelchair and the servers were friendly and helpful. My only complaint was that no one came to fill our water glasses once dinner was served. Now - let me get to the food - the real shocker! Oh, the food (and wine)! Everything from the various appetizers, the bread, the entrees, and desert was absolutely delicious and the prices were so reasonab3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good. SomewhatThe food was very good. Somewhat of a hidden gem in an area where tourists abound.2/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe discoverd Bistro d'Oc severalWe discoverd Bistro d'Oc several years ago. It is a gem. We usually order one entree from their regular menu and another from their daily specials. We have never had a less than woneredul experience in any of our visits. The only diappointment is that we were able to enjoy their dessert "cigars" on our very first visit. We'd like to see the "cigars" offered once again.2/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHost was a little difficult,Host was a little difficult, but our server was excellent and the food was delicious.1/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro d'Oc offers well preparedBistro d'Oc offers well prepared food at a reasonable price (for Washington DC). The veal chop that was offered as a special menu item was excellent. It is a smaller establishment, located in an older building, and at first glance looks more like a pub than a fine dining establishment. Venture in, you may be pleasantly surprised!12/17/2012 12:00:00 AMAttending a play at Lincoln? This is the place to eat if you are attending a play across the street. COULD NOT BE MORE CONVENIENT & the food is excellent.11/24/2012 12:00:00 AM
