Eating in the courtyard is a must as long as the weather permits. It was a little chilly but we
didn't mind dressing a little warmer in order to enjoy the ambience. We ordered the crab and avacado appetizer special which was outstanding, as well as the long hots and gnocchi which were very good as well. However the entrees were not as good as we have had in the past. No one was in love with any of their choices. Not bad, just not great. Maybe just an off night in the kitchen. It is a BYOB and there was not a corking fee. They also allowed us to bring in a birthday cake and did not charge a cutting fee. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our waiter was Michael for two consecutive Saturday evenings. He's a true professional and understands the Bistro menu from top to bottom. Everyone enjoyed their dinner selections. I ordered one of the veal dishes. The veal was tender and yummy. Only complaint is despite having a reservation we had to wait 20 minutes for a table. We could have been seated right away if we wanted to sit outside but it was too chilly for that since the patio heaters were not on. The food and service is always tops! Love the fresh specials. The chocolate-cello is to die for! Every thing we had was excellent. And the Gnocchi's.....OMG works. Best iv'e ever had. The sampler is good enough and large enough to also be an entree. Staff is friendly and fast.Place is clean with beautiful hardwood floors. Table settings nice and clean Parking is street on Haddon ave or side street so be prepared to walk a block if needed. Only issue, is the chairs. Not very confortable and most were loose and wobbly. Even my 8 yo daughter had to switch one out. Was afraid would fall apart under her. Prices are fair becuase of how good the food is. Id say $$ for apps and $$$ for entree's. And remember to BYOB. No bar here. It was very noisy but that's because we had 2 birthday tables near us, but better to be noise and energetic than quiet and dead.
Great place.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA place to meet and greetWhat an illusion. When I first saw the place I was wondering how the restraurant was going to feed alot of people. But, as I walked through the first door, my guest and I were greeded then was asked if we wanted to sit in the courtyard. Inside, they did have great sitting but the outside had GREAT sitting also. The sun was about to go down and we had music and in my opinion the best server was(Chris). I am very light hearted and very amusing. So Chris really got all of my kidding and laughter. I must say, Bistro DiMarino hired the right server to greet and serve. By the way, the appitizers and the meal was amazing. Great restraurant. The restaurant graciously changed our party size from six to seven at the last minute. We shared 3 appetizers and all were amazing. The gnocchi did not disappoint despite the glowing reviews. I highly recommend the baked gnocchi in cream sauce with panchetta. The food and service was fantastic! I was extremely impressed at our waiter's sensitivity to my mother is elderly and walks with a walker. He offered to help her with her walker, hold her to get down the steps - we go out to dinner fairly often and have NEVER had that kind of service and caring!!! We were incredibly impressed - beyond words! The after dinner shot was perfect - delicious and hit the spot. Very nice! We will definitely go back!! I am not a gnocchi expert but the texture was buttery soft, not chewy, and the sauces were savory. One thing for which I praise the chef is that he uses salt sparingly in his sauces. It is easy to make a sauce seem tasty when you have loaded it with salt. The sauces stood on their own merit without unnecessary saltiness. I would suggest you bring a wine which is not too tannic or robust. The portions are generous without being ridiculous. Dinners were prepared quickly, without a lengthy wait. The food is homemade and delicious.
We enjoyed two specials. The artichoke crab dip appetizer and the flounder with shrimp. Many times with fish the sauce is so overpowering that you can barely taste the fish. We usually push the sauce to the side. Not so at Bistro. The sauce complimented the fish well and we found ourselves double dipping.
The complimentary shot of chocolate cello was awesome as was the attention from one of the owners Mike.
