Diner Reviews
  • "Really solid food, nice and attentive staff, nice mix of people and moderate prices make this a local that we'll be looking forward to eating at again. We felt that we got very decent value, which is an all-too-rare thing these days. Really enjoyed the mussels!"

  • "I would go back. It was reliable and the food was good. Wine by the glass was excellent."

  • "Bistro Citron is our favorite local spot after an afternoon at one of the many museums in the area. The staff is friendly, the food is just what the name suggests, "French Bistro" and it's reasonably priced"

  • "The food was solid, although my duck was a bit overdone. We went with our three children, 6-12, after a day at the AMNH, and it was a really pleasant meal with a friendly, attentive waiter and a nice range of food options. The steak was fantastic, well seasoned and done perfectly. My husband enjoyed his lobster ravioli and desserts were good as well."

  • "Wonderful fish. Appetizers incredible and tough choices. Will be back."

  • "I dined at this restaurant twice in the past month and was pleased with the food, the service and the ambiance both times. My only complaint is that on a recent Sunday evening, the noise of the music combined with the TV was much too loud."

  • "this place is very conveniently located near the hayden planetarium. perhaps it depends on attracting tourists rather than locals.service was curt, almost surly. food was not gourmet but rather below diner level brunch. hollandaise was not delicate, creamy and lemony but felt gloppy, tasted mainly salty and was a bright neon yellow color. potatoes were also extra salty. my guest's french fries were similar to mcdonalds. so the price we paid for this kind of food was definitely a rip-off. i don't expect a place like this to be listed thru open table."

  • "The Monday mussel special is great. There are many varieties and it comes with a glass of wine."

  • "I was in NYC and a friend recommended this place. Made a reservation for two and they gave us a booth! (They are VERY busy in the evenings but lunch is more leisurely, we were very lucky.) The maitre d’ was very kind. The waitress was very good, even the busboy. My friend had a Croque Madame for $10. I made an error, ordered in bad french & instead of crepe with chicken and spinach I ordered a chicken entree. But it was a very happy accident. (They would have rectified the situation i'm sure if i had wanted that I was just very happy with my mistake.) Make certain if you are testing out your french to point to the menu while talking! The french onion soup and my friend's potato leek were marvelous! A bottle of wine is de rigueur."

  • "the food is consistently excellent at bistro citron. If you sit in the back the noise level is comfortable for conversation and the staff are attentive and friendly. all and all a wonderful upper west side place to eat with friends. I highly recommend"

  • "My wife and I with three elderly relatives enjoyed the prix fixe Sunday brunch . It is fairly priced . The Oeufs Norvegiennes were well prepared as were the Benedictines. The Hollandaise was mustard colored and looked like spilled paint; yet tasted fine. The strawberrry pancakes were a little soggy..but the fruit sauce was tasty if not memorable. The manager/owner was welcoming and solicitous. The space was packed full with adults, teens (yuk) but offset by cute toddlers in strollers. I certainly would return. The restaurant was rather noisy so our elderly guests turned off their hearing aids. Brunch conversation was reduced to hand signals...it is remarkable how well humans communicate without speaking! • "We met our friend here for brunch. It's a great place to practice your French and well, since our friend was French, he had no problem. The food was fine all around. The Salade Nicoise and Salmon with lentils were delectable and the crepes Suzette was outstanding. We shall return again and do recommend it highly."

  • "My Paris loving friend is picky about where he orders moules. He loved them. Five of us sat ot one of the front booths, and it was comfortable and intimate. The staff was attentive, accomodating and could not have been nicer. Plan to return."

  • "Bistro Citron lives up to its billing as an ideal restaurant that provides a easy atmosphere and fine food and wine--it's has clearly created a winning formula that delivers a great restaurant experience for couples and families alike. A classic French bistro feel--but with a "we accept you for who you are" New York attitude. We had a 6 person family--old to young range and they accommodated us perfectly. Everyone loved their food--the lamb shank, arugula salad special, halibut, steak and pork were all delicious and the floating island for dessert is a must try--rarely seen but worth getting when you find it AND this one is very good. We loved it and will definitely come again."

  • "Citron was fine. The service was very helpful, not rushed, even when my friends showed up a half hour after the reservation (traffic). The food was okay, not great. I expected more of a French flair but my croque monsieur was only so so."

  • "We had New Years Eve dinner and it was e Xcellent even with the crowded scene. Staff were not fun and personable. A wonderful neighborhood bistrl, authentic dishes, good selection and worth a trip if you are farther...as we were."

  • "We frequent Bistro Citron - it's in the neighborhood, and while its food doesn't send you to the moon, it's reliably very good - well prepared and consistent."

  • "Bistro Citron is, by far, the best restaurant on the UWS. The food is consistently good for a very reasonable price. The service is excellent and the manager, Patricio, is a hands on individual who truly cares about his patrons. And his patrons love him, giving him handshakes, hugs and kisses. It's a don't miss type of place."

  • "We've eaten here before & will again. It's an easy walk from Central Park & the Museum of Natural History. Comfortable atmosphere, attentive service from our server, a familiar menu of "everyday French"--soups, salads, steak frites, moules frites, lamb shank with scrumptious risotto, paella, daily specials, usual desserts--all very well-prepared and plated. Excellent fresh French baguette served with butter & pate is replenished w/o having to ask. Our only issue this visit was that two of the male assistant servers seemed unaware of diner physical space, bumping into us as we greeted guests and then slamming one of our us in the knee as he walked by swinging an empty glass rack. Other than that loutish behavior, we had a lovely evening."

  • "Monday was 'Moules" day so I had a bigger choice than usual. I ordered Provencal and they were great as usual. Also the noise level was bearable. We asked for, and got, the most secluded table so it was relatively quiet."

  • "Recommend the mussels! And the lamb shank. Service was very attentive and friendly unlike many other French restaurants in NYC where haughty is the staff attitude."

  • "Relaxed and dependable. Not too crowded for brunch! Well-priced."

  • "Especially happy to have found an Upper West Side restaurant that takes Sunday brunch reservations! It made all the difference. We were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. Food was delicious with one exception: the side dish of homestyle potatoes was too strongly flavored and didn't mesh with the eggs over smoked salmon, at least, not to my liking. The french toast was outstanding, and the pan bagnat was also delicious. Will definitely recommend"

  • "I cannot think of any recent dining experiences in Manhattan that have so utterly and completely delectable. What's more is this was the same experience for every diner in our group of 4 who each had a different appetizer, entree and dessert. The famed decadence of the French cuisine was certainly presented in our dishes and by a friendly, attentive staff. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a love for rich, delicious food."

  • "Bistro citron serves excellent lamb and sea food with specials seven days a week. Good service, friendly and helpful wait staff in a moderately priced restaurant. We ate at 7 pm and the noise level was quiet - by the time we left, more tables were occupied and level was moderate."

  • "We were 14 family members (plus an infant). The restaurant was welcoming and gracious. The food was excellently prepared. The waitstaff was professional and efficient. All of us had a very positive experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "This neighborhood restaurant is spot on. One is welcomed by the friendly staff even before being seated at a table or a booth. The food choices are well suited to a french bistro with daily specials which reflect well loved dishes. It is frequented by many regulars, all of whom obviously enjoy the atmosphere and food. Prices are very reasonable. All in all, a great chocie for diners on Upper West Side of Manhattan."

  • "Okay French bistro food if you're in the neighborhood. Steak tartare was clearly not freshly made, but acceptable."

  • "My friend and I are both vegans. We went because I had a gift card. French food typically is not vegan friendly, however, the owner and staff said they would accommodate us and they certainly did. They made a veggie plate that was very good. Their soup of the day, we were told, is usually vegan. We had a hearty white bean and kale soup that was delicious. We were pleased with our dinner. I only wish they would add vegan dishes to the menu rather than making them on request. As a vegan, if I looked at the menu, I would not want to eat there because every item had some animal ingredient. But it was nice to know that they welcomed us."

  • "Citron is our favorite neighborhood restaurant for a relatively inexpensive meal. The food is always good, sometimes very, very, good, the service is friendly and the crowd is a warm West Side group. Everyone seems at home. As a rule, it's quiet enough to have a good conversation. We went at 7:30 PM last Friday night and the place was filled with a large and happy crowd of people. A good time was had by all."

  • "I've been coming to Bistro Citron since about the time it opened. Don't know if it's the best thing to say, but if nothing else, it's dependable. The food is always good, from the bread; butter and pate that they put on the table as soon as you're seated … to the apple gallette we had for dessert … everything was quite good. It ain't the trendy place of the week, but it's very good. The staff is helpful and attentive, while not being intrusive. But the important thing is the food and the value. I recommend!"

  • "Very well prepared, French bistro menu. We loved everything we had. Service is friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Has a lovey informal neighborhood vibe, with noise level low enough to make conversation possible."

  • "Food and manager were all terrific.. Service at the table was on the poor side.. Once waitress took our order -- really didn't do much..."

  • "Prices seem to be rising here faster than most restaurants and they are leaving things out of their key dishes, like no toasted baguette with mussels."
