  • "Went for Easter brunch as we've been here before. Prix Fixe for the holiday but plenty of choices, especially the entree. Really good food, as usual, with friendly staff. Was a beautiful day and perfect for their outdoor patio, which is on quiet stretch of Mass Ave. Highly recommended."

  • "Ask to be seated in a booth in the red room, a cozy setting for two in the back of the restaurant. The duck and lamb were both beautifully cooked. The only downside was the level of service: We were not assigned a waiter and ended up having four different people attending on us when we called for assistance. Overall, a good experience. They should just make sure every table is attended to. "

  • "Went for a birthday dinner with a large group of young people (early 20s). I have to say that the place is more targeted to an older crowd (the people on the table next to ours were with their baby) and the waitress was definitely judging. Its small so not that great for a large party unless you want to have the entire place to yourselves. The music was French (thematic yes) but almost put us to sleep by the end of the evening. Other than that the ambiance was really nice, beautifully arranged and very appropriate for the venue. Food was really good P range $20-30 and has vegetarian options. Recommend for date or chill dinner, not for people of my age though."

  • "This was our second visit to Bistro Cacao. The food is at a level beyond most French restaurants we have visited in Dc in the past. The duck was wonderful especially the raspberry sauce with sour cherries. The pheasant pate was wonderful but the broccoli soup took broccoli to new heights of flavor for me. We will keep going back and bringing friends with us as we did on our second visit."

  • "The only real thing going for it is that it is in a prime location and has a menu one notch classier than its neighbors."

  • "All aspects of our evening were very nice. The setting indoors is intimate and quiet. The food was delicious. It was especially nice to have excellent vegetarian choices. Service was very good.."

  • "Went to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC and found Bistro Cacao online. It had a good rating from Zagat so we gave it a try. The food and service were excellent and I would recommend it to anyone. Very close to Union Station so we walked there when we were done to catch our ride home."

  • "It is always a treat to dine at Bistro Cacao! The food is scrumptious and the atmosphere lovely! Typically, the service is excellent. Typically, this service is excellent. On my most recent visit however, the waitress forgot to add shrimp to my salad & was totally unapologetic that I had to wait for my meal to be corrected. To make up for it, a more senior waiter brought out a free dessert, which was nice but I had asked on OpenTable for something to be done at dessert to recognize our friend's birthday (ie, with a candle). When I mentioned this, the senior waiter brought out another to search with the candle and the waitstaff sang Happy Birthday to her -very nice!"

  • "Since H Street has turned into such a vibrant restaurant scene, it seems that everyone is forgetting about Bistro Cacao - which is bad for the restaurant but good for those of us who used to have to struggle to get reservations. It is in what used to be Two Quail - the new owners did away with some of the fussiness of the decor but kept the charm - it is a great quaint, quiet place to have a lovely dinner. The menu is wonderful - a great selection of fish, meats, poultry, and even some vegetarian options. The service is top notch. All in all, you end up with a lovely eventful meal at just the upper end of the moderate price range. Highly recommend!"

  • "I always enjoyed brunch at Bistro Cacao but this time the service was very bad. I had to get up and look for someone to serve us twice. Our food took a very long time to be delivered to our table. It is really sad that this has happened. I realize that the restaurant has become very popular especially for brunch and all of the tables were taken the Sunday we were there but then more thought has to be put into how to handle the added popularity."

  • "Bistro Cacao was already a favorite of ours but when we celebrated our anniversary with a brunch at the restaurant the staff went out of their way to make sure we felt celebrated. I always enjoy the pastry basket and coffee. The portions are a great size, you never feel rushed while at the restaurant, and the ambience is perfect."

  • "One of our top picks. We really enjoyed this small, cozy restaurant. The food was absolutely wonderful. We shared an appetizer of scallops with beans: the sauce brought back memories of our trips to France. My main was the rack of lamb - perfectly cooked. Our waiter was a bit of a chaPlantation Woods Park 5555 Palm Tree Rd. Plantation Fl racter! Would definitely return if we ever return to DC. Highly recommend."

  • "I had read about this place and Yelp and wasn't disappointed...the good was great, we weren't rushed and the service was excellent. Fantastic place for a romantic dinner for two!"

  • "Seating is not always comfortable. Residential space converted to restaurant so not everything works well. Some very quiet corners, some seating too close to other parties.Very nice menu not always executed as well hoped for. Fills a real space in limited choices in the neighborhood."

  • "I am a loyal customer of bistro cacao and I typically come to the restaurant about twice monthly. We were the first people in the restaurant with a reservation for 5:00 PM dinner service yet our food took more than two hours to come out of the kitchen. The portions were reduced by more than half and I know this to be accurate because I have photos of my previous dinners at the restaurant. I was thoroughly disappointed. I will continue to be a loyal customer but I have begun the search for a solid replacement."

  • "My husband and I ate here this past Saturday night. We were looking forward to it as it received many good recommendations We were very disappointed. I ordered the cream of asparagus soup with black truffle oil. The soup had absolutely no flavour and was devoid of any seasoning. I cook with truffle oil, so am very familiar with the taste. It was most definitely lacking in this dish. My husband had the lobster bisque and that was very tasty. For a salad, I had the seared scallops with mushroom and white bean ragout. The scallops were perfect but there was too much lemon in the ragout, it almost overpowered all of the other flavours My husband's rack of lamb was tough/chewy.The lemon beurre blanc sauce on the mahi mahi was excellent"

  • "We had a lovely dinner - just me and my husband. We are from Louisiana and felt the soups we had could have used more seasoning, but everything else was wonderful! Loved the French atmosphere! Rather "bordello-like" which was fun! The old building in which it is located was awesome! We really enjoyed ourselves."

  • "We had a great experience. I requested a romantic table and they held one for us. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. they even remembered it was my birthday and surprised me with a candle and birthday wishes on my dessert. the food was delicious and perfect sized portions. I look forward to eating their again."

  • "Lovely brunch, food good, although menu rather limited. Lovely little spot. We had a large energetic group that our waiter handled with grace. I would certainly return as couple or 4 top to check out dinner menu. Very attractive little spot!"

  • "We were a party of four from out of state and found this wonderful French restaurant set in this quaint building. For our appetizers, we had escargot, moules cacao and lobster bisque. For our entrees, we had the venison, duck, bouillabaisse and quail special. I had a taste of everything and it was all excellent. Of these all, I would definitely order the escargot again, as well as the duck, bouillabaisse and quail. I like the attention they pay to you. Sometimes the owner or cook would come out and greet people or say hello. It created a very warm and welcoming feel."

  • "I really enjoyed the restaurants very cozy, romantic, and authentic feel. My date and I had the escargot to start, which was very tasty. I had the venison and LOVED it! My date had the duck as his entree, which he really enjoyed and we finished with the trio creme brulee. I would definitely recommend this place to any and everyone. The menu is very versatile and I guarantee there is something for everyone!"

  • "I was here for lunch, but can't wait to come back for dinner. The service was prompt, friendly and very helpful. The food is awesome, their french fries is the best. I had Veggie sandwich and it was perfect. My friend had Shrimp Cacao salad and liked it very much. The main dining room with curtained tables for 2 is so charming and romantic. So if you need a place to bring your loved one for a special dinner search no more."

  • "Brunch was great - such a great price point in a lovely location. It was a beautiful Saturday, so we chose to sit outside, but the interior is so quaint and cosy, it would be perfect for an intimate dinner. The food and drinks were lovely, my only complaint was the service. They were definitely understaffed with waiters/waitresses to take your orders and come check on you. I was never asked if I wanted a refill on my cappuchino (which I did), and there were times I could not find our waitress to flag her down and ask her. We were left waiting for our check for about 15-20minutes and had to go inside to get it processed. I would love to go back to try their dinner menu, if the servers are more attentive"

  • "Went there for my boyfriend's surprise birthday party, the staff was very helpful in pulling off the surprise. The food was great, the last item on the seafood menu was so good I got the saumon but kept eating that item from my boyfriend. Everyone enjoyed themselves and this might be his birthday dinner place from now on."

  • "Wonderful dining rooms with cute little nooks and spaces so you get a little bit of privacy. The waiter helped us to pick our wine and suggested one that was off the menu but still within our price range, and it was delicious! The french onion soup was delicious, the lamb was great and the tart at the end was truly amazing. Such a great place to have in the neighborhood!"

  • "Always consistent - food, cocktails wine and SERVICE are ALL always spot on and terrific. In several years we have yet to be disappointed. Intimate dining or parties of 20 - the service and quality is consistent. We are SO pleased to have this gem close by. Don't miss it while in DC"

  • "With an old NJ friend for late brunch- discovered this lovely spot close to her hotel in a lovely row house. This is one of the coziest intimate places with semi-private seating along the sides of the rooms; we were given the front window, a cheery spot spot. The wait staff all greeted us with a warm smile and really seemed to like working there. The menu has enough choices whether you crave breakfast or lunch, a fixe price! Waiter was patient that we were catching up and slow to order. It seemed a good showing of folks of all ages throughout the restaurant in the different rooms. We were watching calories - enjoyed delicious salmon, pastry basket included held tempting carbs, so didn't feel bad about missing the blueberry pancake. Nice!"

  • "A wonderful evening with my girlfriend--had in mind a restaurant with a warm, toasty welcome and voila! A fireplace as we walked through the door! Seated in a 'cubby' which was charming, greeted warmly and enjoyed the best waiter! He recommended a fabulous French wine and the food was to die for--lobster cake on a bed of spinach to start--I would order that again in a heartbeat! Looking forward to returning to the bar for a glass of wine and appetizer!"

  • "A lovely place (great decor and location) with a great menu and good service. So glad we tried it out! It is in a slightly unusual part of the city, in a neighborhood, but it is not far from Union Station and (I think) the Capitol Hill area. We had the french onion soup (a little salty, but very tasty), hangar steak (absolutely delicious), asparagus soup (fabulous), and lobster stuffed trout (perfect in every way). We finished with a trio of tiny, flavored creme brulees that were very good. We'd like to come back in the spring/summer when the outdoor seating area is open, but with so many interesting choices on the menu, we will be back to try more no matter what the season!"

  • "My daughter and I ate at the Bistro Cacao after the theater last Sunday. We arrived much earlier than our reservation, but they welcomed and seated us. The tables are wonderful with comfy plush chairs that you could leisurely sit in for hours. The wait staff was attentive, the food excellent. We had the trout special, both the lobster bisque and onion soup, the salad Cacao and the chocolate mousse, All were delicious! We never felt rushed and enjoyed ourselves immensely. There was plenty of street parking in the area."

  • "If you desire to have some fantastic, authentic french cuisine, than Bistro Cacao is the place to be. The ambiance was wonderful, in a beautiful part of D.C. and the service was wonderful. There is nothing I can think of that was bad or mediocre about the experience."

  • "We went to Bistro Cacao before seeing a play at the Folger. It was wonderful - very relaxed, friendly interactive staff with just the right amount of attention, and really great food. It was quiet so the three of us could talk easily, with lots of small spaces in the restaurant. Lovely fireplace. Our reservation was for the opening time of the restaurant, but there were no delays. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I love this restaurant… The food, service (bartender &waiter) and host were superb! Our reservation was at 5:00, for eight of us…we arrived very late and everyone was very understanding and accommodating. I cannot wait to visit this spot again with my girlfriends, especially in the spring time!"
