A word from Bistro by the Beach
Executive Chef B.J. Brown opened Bistro By The Beach in the spring of 2011 with a vision of creating the Jersey Shore's finest dining experience. Trained at The New England Culinary Institute, and spending extensive time at some of Monmouth County's most respected establishments, Brown infuses every dish with his insatiable passion for food and desire to please.

Starting under Dan Cummings for the Grenville Hotel, a well reviewed kitchen in Bay Head, NJ, Brown excelled. Once word of his talents got out, several offers landed on the Chef's plate. Mumford's Culinary Center in Tinton Falls, NJ grabbed the up and coming star, and it is there that he perfected his skills and further earned his stripes. It is also where he met good friend, Chef Casey Pesce. Chef Pesce recruited Chef Brown to help him open his restaurant, D'Jeet. After helping D'Jeet become a huge success, Bistro By The Beach was opened, and the reviews have been tremendous!

My husband and I wanted to have dinner at Bistro, since it was their last night in business. They will be moving. We have enjoyed it so much in the past. We have had dinner there and had my son's wedding rehearsal dinner there. The food is excellent and the staff exceptional. The chef is very personable and all food is made to order, with special touches. So glad that we got to go one last time and look forward to learning where Bistro will be in the future.

This was our third time at Bistro by the beach and they never disappoint us. We had an amazing flatbread appetizer along with fresh scallops over some sort-of amazing fresh corn risotto. Whatever it was, there was not one morsel left on my plate when I returned it. Local owned, by an amazing, kind and friendly Chef who personally visited our table to ensure everything was excellent. We’re looking forward to coming back and introducing some friends to this hidden gem.

Had a lovely Saturday night dinner, place was quiet due to winter weather. Each item that we picked off the menu was delicious, fresh, and original. The portions are a very generous size and they excel at comfort food- delicious deep fried onion rings, a very hearty lobster corn chowder, savory porkchops and strip steaks with a creamy macaroni and bleu cheese. We love the panko fried chicken breast that they sometimes have on the menu and the asian calamari salad was a standout as well. They staff was pleasant, didn't rush us even though I'm sure they all wanted to get home on a quiet evening. We are definitely going back and encouraging all our friends to as well.

Although it was the winter months, our dinning experience was fantastic. There were only a few tables filled, again, winter time. The food was delicious, with a nice menu to select from. Our waitress was very attentive, gave us great suggestions for placing to go during our weekend stay In Spring Lake. With the BYOB, it made it and even nicer experience. We would definitely go again, and this time would bring friends!! Great find~

I came here with my boyfriend for restaurant week. The staff really makes it a personal experience and we felt like we were staying in the hotel. The manager was very alert and called us by our first names. There were a lot of people but he gave attention to everyone. The food was the best I've ever had and I've been to some very upscale places. It was so good I didn't even want to finish so I could enjoy it forever. My favorite by far was the ahi tuna tacos. All around it was amazing and I will definitely be back!

A undiscovered treat, , expertily prepared by a chef with a passion for flavor, freshness and quality. the selection and variety of menu is well chosen . the focus is clearly the delicious food and attention to details from the house made hot to the table breads thru to the extraordinary desserts. Definitely worth a visit .. . Service is perfectly friendly and welcoming. there are a series of quaint vignette of quaint rooms that make up the restaurant on the site of the Sand Piper Hotel . the summer will be quite hectic, go now and prepare for a great meal.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. When we first arrived we waited 10 minutes to be seated My girlfriend made an observation that everyone was waiting for Their food. Seeing that I had a bad feeling. The service was awful and it took over 2 hours to get our food (salad and ravioli for appitezer, chicken for main course, and ice cream for dessert). I was shocked the waitress did not come over to apologize Regarding such a long wait. In addition my girlfriend wanted to order the scallops but was told they were all out along with Two choice out four choices of the dessert. Saying we were disappointed in the wait, service, and the fix menu items not available is a understatement. Arrived at restaurant at 8:00 and left around 10:20.

Since it was restaurant week at the shore we thought we would try a new restaurant that we otherwise wouldn't go to. We were pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was Bistro by the Beach. My husband had the chicken with bread pudding which was superb. I had the Day Boat scallops with butternut coulis which were outstanding. The gelato and the pumpkin cheesecake were delicious. So glad we tried this restaurant, we would definitely go back.

Very pleasant dining experience - not the best meal I have ever had, but very tasty. Service was slow, which was fine, because we were four friends having a reunion and we were really happy to sit there for a couple of hours while we drank a couple of bottles of wine. The only problem was that they seemed to run out of several things very early in the evening, which limited menu choices.

We ate here a year ago during Restaurant week. The food portions during restaurant week were a little on the small side, the table sitting next to us were saying they were definitely skimpy compared to other weeks. That I found to be disappointing because we did leave a little hungry. But on a side note the food was excellent and unique pairings which we love.It was a homey, old world romantic atmosphere, bright whites, brick, and wide decorative moldings. Unfortunately, I looked to have my sister bridal shower there and saw they have since closed !!! :-(

This was our first visit to the Bistro by the Beach, and certianly won't be our last. It was a quiet night, which suited us fine. I completely forgot to tell my husband to pack a cooler (BYOB), but the server and the chef who came out with a new menu for the evening where so accomodating. They called a local liquour store who makes regular deliveries there, and we were delivered some cocktails in no time at all. The Autumn salad was amazing! There were generous amount of figs, pears, shredded white cheddar and pumpkin seeds served on top of a arugla spring mix, with an apple cider vinegarette, delish! We shared the "Arti"choke francaise, also delish and our dinners were perfect! We will surely be back!

I highly recommend trying Bistro on the Beach. It had a very nice, beachy atmosphere. It was off season so it was fairly quiet, I'm sure during the busy season, it gets packed. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing, I had the lobster raviolis and my friend ordered one of the specials that night which was the pork chop. I never saw a chop that big and it was delicious, the best pork chop I ever tasted! Of course, I had to have a taste! As we were leaving the chef came out, we raved about how good the food was, he was happy! He invited us back for Restaurant week in November!

The only complaint I have is that our server knew that since I was pregnant I could not have soft cheeses on my salad since we discussed the soft cheese on the salad special for that evening. We decided to go with the Bistro salad asking for yes the gorgonzola cheese on the side so my hubby could put some on his. The salad did come out with the cheese sprinkled throughout. Since we waited 45 min to get app's from ordering we were quite hungry and tried to flag down our server to ask for a new one. She was very busy so never came to check on us and we never saw her appear so I didnt get to eat the salad. Once the entrees arrived again the food took a long time time to come out but was worth the wait and delish

4 of us went to dinner sunday night and 2 of the meals were very good. The other 2 were terrible! They were both one of the specials; some sort of pasta and clam sauce. Both of us agreed it was inedible. When we shared this with our waitress she was very accepting and immediately took the plates away and off our bill. She asked us if we would like anything else but we didn't. I believe her name was Kristina. She was the epitome of what service recovery is all about. (when someone can take a bad experience and make it into a good experience). We were initially disappointed in the restaurant and had no plans to return. Her attitude was so exceptional that I can guarantee we all will return in the near future.

Once again, BJ and his staff provided us with a great evening for our college friend reunion. For me, the mussels with crumbled bacon and french fries was a fabulous start. Main course was the pork chop with a peach bourbon glaze and sweet potatoes. The combination of flavors were great. As always the servers were very friendly, attentive and didn't miss a beat when our group number raised from 8 to 12. at the last minute.

We ate here on a Sunday night a few weeks ago. The decor is unchanged from years ago but it was fine. The two young women working were excellent. I am a vegetarian, there was no vegetarian entree on the menu, but I was able to get a pasta dish which was excellent. My DH enjoyed his lobster tail special. The dessert was excellent some sort of ice cream pie. The Greek salad was very good. We are non-drinkers but be aware this is a BYOW. We will definitely return on future trips to Spring Lake.

This was our third time here and we were disappointed. There was a large party dining that night and they really slowed up the kitchen. We did not sit down until 30 minutes after our reservation and there was no apology for it. The food service was extremely slow and again no apology. Our server was not particularly concerned with our table - Not rude just indifferent. The food was delicious as usual but I am not rushing back here.

Dined as a party of 6. Server was friendly and attentive. Food was very good. Ambience is extremely lacking but when you are on the ground floor of an older building with very low ceilings and little attempt to spruce the place up, it gets low ratings for ambience. What pushed us over the edge however was when we got the bill and saw that the special for 8 oz Kobe rib eye with 5 oz lobster tailed stuffed with crabmeat was $65 per entree, and we ordered 2. Clearly we would expect this type of special to be on the pricier side (average entrees in the mid $30 range), but really $65!!!! This is not NYC, it's a BYO in Spring Lake-next time we know to ask, but probably won't be back here since this left bad taste in our mouths!

We had a very nice dinner at Bistro on the Beach on a Thursday evening. After reading mixed reviews about the service, I was prepared to be disappointed by this but was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted quickly by a hostess who asked us if we had a preference for where we were seated. Then we were promptly seated and then our order taken and the meal served in a timely manner by a very cheerful waitress named Chrissie. The food was quite good and so filling that we passed on dessert. All aroound....it was a very pleasant experience a few steps from the beach in beautiful Spring Lake, NJ. FYI This is a BYOB restaurant so bring along your favorite bottle of wine to accompany your meal.
