A word from Bistro Bordeaux
The philosophy of the menu at Bistro Bordeaux is an expression of our French culinary heritage, for which we have a profound admiration. The support of our local farmers allows us to use the freshest produce and seafood, just as one would find in the markets in the south of France. The menu showcases the freshness of these pure ingredients through simple, flavorful combinations.
As the passing of fall brings day light savings time with early nightfall, we are always excited to welcome back the great comfort food dishes typically found in bistros; the first taste of the “Coq au Vin” and the pervading perfumes of the long cooked “Cassoulet Toulousain”, come to mind. It is, in our opinion, this style of cuisine that offers the clearest definition of traditionally rooted French fare
We hope you enjoy the eating as much as we enjoy the preparation in the kitchen and wish you all "Bon appétit"!

Yes, we had a great time with our guests, but left feeling as if the manager and waiter were friends too. Service was very professional leaning toward friendly even though the restaurant was full. The food was great. Fantastic foie gras in warm and cold preparations, lovely oysters on the half shell and good escargot got us started on the classic french bistro menu. By the time we finished authentic and delicious roasted chicken, steak frites and bouillabaisse, we all felt like we were back in France. For dessert, The creme brulee was among the best I have ever eaten, with good vanilla and a great caramelized finish. While well done, the chocolate pave was very dense and made me wish for a lighter, classic chocolate mousse instead.

Excellent dinner with French flair, nice French wine list, reasonable beer list. Charcuterie plate was generous enough to share, frites were amazing, will have mussels next time just to go with the frites. Quail was also excellent, portions were right sized, and the profiteroles rounded out the dinner nicely. A very enjoyable dinner for 4 with reservations easily obtained at the last minute

This was our first time here & will not be our last. From start to finish everything was perfect. Lance, our waiter was terrific, courteous, friendly & efficient. The food along with the presentation was excellent. My salmon was superb as was the assorted meat appetizer. This could be our new, favorite local restaurant!

It must have been the chefs night off. One in our party stated that half of the duck was inedible, The salad with Tuna was average. The profiteroles were stale and very hard to cut and chew. However great wine list and the soup of the day was fabulous Overal a very average dinner.

This restaurant reminds one of Paris. We were seated by a charming hostess and greeted by our server (Lance) who, although new to this restaurant was knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. We started with the escargot, the charcuterie plate and split a salad. All very good. G/f ordered the trout and it was magnificently prepared. Visually and gastronomically, a definite winner. I ordered the mussels, and was a tad disappointed. While they were authentically served in a broth along with frites and truffle mayo; they were incredibly small, but tasty. Had the flotielle for dessert-wonderful. The drawback was the owner who never acknowledged his patrons or thanked anyone as they left. His demeanor was one of importance rather than welcoming.

I have been enjoying Bistro Bordeaux since the day it opened -- actually I dined there the first week it opened. It is my favorite restaurant in Evanston -- food is always perfect, sometimes there is quite a bit of "energy" on a Saturday night, but I still find it a perfect evening.

We were looking to 'assess' a brunch place for our wedding and discovered Bistro Bordeaux. We had tried a couple other places in the area and were less than impressed with them until we found Bistro Bordeaux. While the building it sits in is unassuming, don't be fooled. The service, the prices, and the FOOD are all extraordinary. I can't say enough about this place and will frequent it whenever I am in Evanston.

Our waiter (Eric) was possibly the best waiter we've ever had. He was attentive without being intrusive. . He answered questions and was great in assisting in wine decisions. We had the charcuterie platter, which was very nice. My wife had the quail, while I opted for the ribeye. Both entrees were great. We had the creme brulee and the chocolate turine for dessert. Cocktails were also well prepared.

Will surely return to this friendly, very "French" gem in Evanston. Hadn't been here before and found the decor, waiter and menu very good. The tart appetizer was delicious, as was the bib salad. I had mussels which were very small, but the broth was delicious. My husband had escargot which he loved, the trout and, for dessert, 3 small cream puffs filled with ice cream and then he poured chocolate sauce over them. I tasted. Yummy!

  • Beware Bastille Day

We went to Bistro Bordeaux on Bastille Day because we had received an email promoting a special menu. It took 45 minutes before our salad arrived, then another 45 minutes for the main course, which was awful. We asked for more bread to tide us over while we waited, but none ever arrived. In fact, after taking our order, the waiter never made another appearance. So after a few bites of the main course, we got up to leave, offering to pay for the salad and wine. In the restaurant's favor, They refused to let us pay. We had been there several times before, and always had great meals, so we'll chalk it up to a really, really bad night in their kitchen and hope for better next time.

We took advantage of Bistro Bordeaux's Bastille Day special menu, and had a nice dinner. One of us had the fixed price special, a good value, and the other ordered a la carte. There was a strolling accordian player setting the atmosphere for the holiday that evening. Food was delicious, presentation was attractive, and portion sizes were good. Service was fine but not quite attentive enough. As the room filled up the noise level increased, but it was possible to converse. We have dined here before, and will do so again.

My wife and I came here a year ago as an after thought, since the restaurant across the street we we heading to had an 1.5 hour wait for a table. Upon entering, the hostess looked us up and down, hesitated, and then told us they were fully booked. I could see 5 or 6 tables available over her shoulder. My wife walked out angry. I decided I would give them another chance a year later, and took my wife last week. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Our waiter visited the table twice or three times the entire evening, as there were long stretches of time between visits. The table next to us, two couples, included a loud and obnoxious man who was obviously obsessed with money, and peoples earning potential, and his $31M contract etc.

We asked for two salads to be split between 3 plates -- no big deal but they wouldn't do it in the kitchen. One steak came way over cooked and took about 10 minutes to replace so the rest of us were finished before it came and then the busboys kept trying to clear our plates before the one person was finished. You would think they would have comped a dessert--but they didn't -- bad business as far as I am concerned and for that reason none of the 6 of us will return. They also need to do something about the noise from the kitchen-- very loud and annoying if you were sitting in the back of the restaurant

Classic French bistro in ambiance, but not food. Food was good , not great. First, the valet parker had an emergency, so there was no valet parking on a Saturday night, which made getting there difficult. The foie gras was very good, small portion, but great taste. I also had the onion soup which was outstanding, equivalent to a real French bistro. I had the trout, overdone, somewhat dry but adequate. My partner had the spring casserole, which was undercooked, some of the fava beans were not skinned, carrots were almost raw. Service was excellent on a very busy night, Eric was very professional. All in all enjoyable, but the food could have been improved.
