A word from Bistro Bordeaux
The philosophy of the menu at Bistro Bordeaux is an expression of our French culinary heritage, for which we have a profound admiration. The support of our local farmers allows us to use the freshest produce and seafood, just as one would find in the markets in the south of France. The menu showcases the freshness of these pure ingredients through simple, flavorful combinations.
As the passing of fall brings day light savings time with early nightfall, we are always excited to welcome back the great comfort food dishes typically found in bistros; the first taste of the “Coq au Vin” and the pervading perfumes of the long cooked “Cassoulet Toulousain”, come to mind. It is, in our opinion, this style of cuisine that offers the clearest definition of traditionally rooted French fare

  • "Will surely return to this friendly, very "French" gem in Evanston. Hadn't been here before and found the decor, waiter and menu very good. The tart appetizer was delicious, as was the bib salad. I had mussels which were very small, but the broth was delicious. My husband had escargot which he loved, the trout and, for dessert, 3 small cream puffs filled with ice cream and then he poured chocolate sauce over them. I tasted. Yummy!"

I have been to the restaurant on the weekend and tho it was very noisy, the food was much better and the service was far better, even when the restaurant was completely filled. I will not be visiting Bistro Bordeaux again"

  • "We went to Bistro Bordeaux on Bastille Day because we had received an email promoting a special menu. It took 45 minutes before our salad arrived, then another 45 minutes for the main course, which was awful. We asked for more bread to tide us over while we waited, but none ever arrived. In fact, after taking our order, the waiter never made another appearance. So after a few bites of the main course, we got up to leave, offering to pay for the salad and wine. In the restaurant's favor, They refused to let us pay. We had been there several times before, and always had great meals, so we'll chalk it up to a really, really bad night in their kitchen and hope for better next time."

  • "We had a nice French dinner celebrating Bastille Day. Overall, a very tasty evening. Only complaint was my medium-rare steak came out rare. Promptly corrected. Escargot delicious; bouillabaisse was good, but a bit bland. Terrine au Chocolat for dessert was terrific."

  • "We took advantage of Bistro Bordeaux's Bastille Day special menu, and had a nice dinner. One of us had the fixed price special, a good value, and the other ordered a la carte. There was a strolling accordian player setting the atmosphere for the holiday that evening. Food was delicious, presentation was attractive, and portion sizes were good. Service was fine but not quite attentive enough. As the room filled up the noise level increased, but it was possible to converse. We have dined here before, and will do so again."

  • "My wife and I came here a year ago as an after thought, since the restaurant across the street we we heading to had an 1.5 hour wait for a table. Upon entering, the hostess looked us up and down, hesitated, and then told us they were fully booked. I could see 5 or 6 tables available over her shoulder. My wife walked out angry. I decided I would give them another chance a year later, and took my wife last week. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Our waiter visited the table twice or three times the entire evening, as there were long stretches of time between visits. The table next to us, two couples, included a loud and obnoxious man who was obviously obsessed with money, and peoples earning potential, and his $31M contract etc."

  • "We asked for two salads to be split between 3 plates -- no big deal but they wouldn't do it in the kitchen. One steak came way over cooked and took about 10 minutes to replace so the rest of us were finished before it came and then the busboys kept trying to clear our plates before the one person was finished. You would think they would have comped a dessert--but they didn't -- bad business as far as I am concerned and for that reason none of the 6 of us will return. They also need to do something about the noise from the kitchen-- very loud and annoying if you were sitting in the back of the restaurant"

First, the valet parker had an emergency, so there was no valet parking on a Saturday night, which made getting there difficult. The foie gras was very good, small portion, but great taste. I also had the onion soup which was outstanding, equivalent to a real French bistro. I had the trout, overdone, somewhat dry but adequate. My partner had the spring casserole, which was undercooked, some of the fava beans were not skinned, carrots were almost raw. Service was excellent on a very busy night, Eric was very professional. All in all enjoyable, but the food could have been improved."

Barely able to sustain a conversation without shouting at your partner. The wine list was very interesting and good, though. In summary, not going back. Not good value for the money you end up spending. Spoke to other patrons on the way out and they had the same impression."

The steaks were tough and tasteless and the salmon was not good. Service was fair. Could have been a bad night but they have lost us and our friends.   • "From the glowing reviews we expected a wonderful experience. We were sadly disappointed. We asked for a roomy, quiet table. We were seated at a small table the was squeezed in between 2 large tables. The noise level was quiet at first when we arrived at 6PM. As more people came in, it escalated to a point that we could not hear each other at all. My friend enjoyed the bouillabaisse, but my steak was average and served with only a large pile of french fried potatoes, nothing else. We didn't even order coffee or dessert because we couldn't wait to get out of there. We felt the servers were polite but not very available. We felt ignored, maybe because we are not wine drinkers."

  • "I would not recommend Bistro Bordeaux. We went there to celebrate a birthday. Its excessive loud , hard to hear anyone next to you. Food is fair at best. The duck was salty , you will not want to eat salt for a week after that. If youlike fine French food this is not the place. I can not see how anyone would rate this as the best new restaurant in Chicago. There was nothing we order that was exceptional. Service was horrible, took over 45 minutes just to get our appetizers . The server has absolutely no knowledge of their wines. "
