Bistro BordeauxShort-list FavoriteBistro Bordeaux is now on our short-list of favorite restaurants---authentic French food in a true bistro atmosphere.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMgood bistro food; friendly waitersVery much like dining in a French bistro, save for the fact that the waiters like Americans! Satisfying bistro comfort food like confit, croque madame, bouillabaisse, coq au vin, and steak frites accompanied by enjoyable yet affordable french wines. If only we all had a place like this in our neighborhoods.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIt had been about 2 yearsIt had been about 2 years since we were last at this restaurant and we were very pleased this time with the food and service. My wife's trout could not have been better and my steak frites, though not quite at the medium temperature that I ordered, were still very delicious. We will not wait 2 years between visits anymore.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic French food & atmosphereAuthentic French food - great onion soup, pate, steak frites, a fantastic chicken for 2 and for dessert: profiteroles, pain perdu and floating island. The coffee is Julius Meinl and is also delicious. The service could be a little more efficient.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMit was a truly delightfulit was a truly delightful meal, it is always a treat to eat there5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's an any night favorite with meIt's a little bit of Paris in Evanston with classically prepared bistro fare. The Poulet Fermier Roti pour Deux is a triumph, exquisite, succulent and a bit of a show stopper when presented. Perfect Steak Pommes Frites without the jet lag!
Best of all, the seasonal specials - Cassoulet, Soft Shell Crab.
The service is attentive and respectful.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular in every wayI dine here often and BB never disappoints. This week I went for soft shell crabs. I was immediately struck by the jumbo size, premium quality and amazing preparation. My friend had the aged ribeye steak, also premium and delicious. The wine list has many affordable gems to complement any menu choice. The servers are always knowledgable, friendly and attentive. Yeah, I love this place!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely brunchWe come to Bistro Bordeaux every few months, and the place has improved over the past three years. Brunch was wonderful - a croque madame that was near-perfect and a really nice pain perdu with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream were the highlights. We will be back.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for the soft shell crabsWent for the crab special which was very delicious!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Super French bistro - classic offerings with a few modern twists - the food was superb and the service attentive and knowledgeable. I've been for brunch and dinner. Definitely a stand-out in Evanston.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went with a group of 8We went with a group of 8 friends with years to catch up on. Food and service were great!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy dinner at Bistro BordeauxMy dinner at Bistro Bordeaux was an excellent experience on al fronts. The food--I had the Idaho trout with peas, leeks and mushrooms served with purple mashed potatoes; my partner had steak frites. Both were delicious. Although the room is crowded, noise did not seem to be an issue on a Sunday evening. It's an outstanding addition to Evanston dining.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMyeah a new chef!Ever since BB got a new Chef, I'd have to say the food has gotten more consistently delicious. the previous one didnt seem to manage well especially during busy weekends. The steaks frites are delicious. This was an issue before with the consistency of the frites either being delivered undercooked and greasy to overly cooked and too crisp. The fish specials now have flavor and overall depth of flavor as before needed some seasoning. I've never really had an issue here with service as the staff here has been relatively consistent and well trained, friendly and engaging. Pascal the owner has a continued presence in the restaurant and you'll see him regularly helping out, carving dishes tableside, and greeting guests. A huge improvement!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA very enjoyable dining experience.A very enjoyable dining experience. Interesting, although somewhat limited, menu with all the bistro favorites. The moules frites are as good as any you'll find in France or Belgium. Polite and attentive service. Wine list is exclusively French and rather pricey. We've been several times and will continue to return.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great experienceAlways a great experience here. We brought some friends this trip and they were just as impressed. Highly recommend the trout and duck and charcuterie appetizer and, last but not least, the meringue for dessert which is nothing short of incredible.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time there. TheOur first time there. The food, specifically the trout, was superb. Service was excellent. We will surely go back. Somewhat noisey and tables very close together. We heard both conversations from the tables next to us. Mostly problems with their kids or other people's kids.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and wines thatExcellent food and wines that are not found elsewhere and are fairly priced.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile I personally was notWhile I personally was not overjoyed with my food and experience, the rest of my group absolutely loved their food, we ordered the steak tartare and escargot and everyone raved about them, steak ponne frites were order by 3 of us and the steak was a bit tough but the frites were yummy. The duck was amazing and my husband said the trout was the best fish he had ever eaten. Desserts were well received as well, the merengue, pain pardu and chocolate terrine were all very good. Overall, service and food were great for mostly everyone and we would definitely return.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner was excellent. WineDinner was excellent. Wine list is impressive. The food was excellent, we will be back! Thanks!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter was not particularlyOur waiter was not particularly attentive to us when compared to the other table he was waiting on. I felt like he did not show us the same amount of attention and did not want to interact with us. He didn't even come by at once to ask how the food. I didn't have a problem with any of the food but it still would have been nice to check in on us. My boyfriend and I were here before on our first date and everything went perfect until the owner or manager of the establishment chased us a block and a half because he thought we didn't give enough for a tip. Talk about embarrassing!!! My boyfriend had a very good tip in fact on the table and did not place it on the receipt tray because we were in a bit of a hurry to leave.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful!!! Everything perfectlyWonderful!!! Everything perfectly prepared. Keeps getting better and better.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur go-to place for smallOur go-to place for small family get-togethers, or just when we feel like good, reliable French bistro food. As good, or better as any of this type in the city or suburbs.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, terrific service,Great food, terrific service, the wait staff knows their food and their wines and is very attentive... GREAT profiteroles!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent BistroI am a frequent diner here for a reason: the food is very good. I took my daughter out for oysters (Tuesdays are “oyster night”). We ate two dozen; half east coast/ half west coast. Fresh, briny and firm with three clear sauces(one a bit spicy, one mostly vinegar and one on the buttery side).
My daughter had Coq au Vin which was tender and delicious in the classic French preparation. I had Gnocchi Parisienne à l’Arome de Café et son Agneau Braisé (braised lamb shoulder, Julius Meinl coffee gnocchis, oil cured olives, tomato concassée, confit shallots, lemon preserve, Aleppo pepper) which was melt-in-your-mouth good. Salty, savory and a slight sweetness brought out the rich lamb flavor beautifully.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always have a great mealWe always have a great meal at Bistro Bordeaux. We both had the barramunda (sp?). Very fresh and flavorful.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSweet restaurant, super friendlyThe food here was extremely good to outstanding. It is a wonderful place for a warm conversation with my boyfriend. We also enjoyed the music {albeit Pandora - but great music selections) which enhanced the French-bistro ambiance. Also, we were very impressed when the attentive staff welcomed us back. We had been there once several weeks ago. It was a nice touch which combined with the creative menu moved this restaurant to the top of our list of our all time favorites.12/9/2012 12:00:00 AM
