A word from Bistro Bordeaux
The philosophy of the menu at Bistro Bordeaux is an expression of our French culinary heritage, for which we have a profound admiration. The support of our local farmers allows us to use the freshest produce and seafood, just as one would find in the markets in the south of France. The menu showcases the freshness of these pure ingredients through simple, flavorful combinations.
As the passing of fall brings day light savings time with early nightfall, we are always excited to welcome back the great comfort food dishes typically found in bistros; the first taste of the “Coq au Vin” and the pervading perfumes of the long cooked “Cassoulet Toulousain”, come to mind. It is, in our opinion, this style of cuisine that offers the clearest definition of traditionally rooted French fare

  • "Everything was perfect. We arrived on time and a quiet table was waiting for us. The hostess took our coats at the door which made dining even more pleasant. We had the cold pate for starters, delicious. The endive salad was divine as were our other entrees. We each had something different, shared and were delighted. Dessert was also wonderful. We talked and talked. We were never rushed. They just kept taking care of us. As we paid the bill,, our waiter, Eric, took our valet checks. Our cars were waiting for us as we left the establishment. A perfect final touch to a perfect evening. "

  • "This was our second time dining at Bistro Boroeaux, and we were disappointed in the time it took us to get our food served this time. It was a Friday evening, and there were plenty of available tables, so there was no reason for it to take as long as it did to receive our entrees. Our server was polite, and even gave us an after-dinner drink on the house, but we were still disappointed on this visit."

  • "This used to be my favorite restaurant but this experience was extremely poor!! The food was poor, the service couldn't care less about us! Ordered a bottle of wine from 2007 but they came back with a bottle of 2010 with the excuse that often restaurants try to sell from an older year and mark up the price. The bottle from 2007 was $70 and he charged me the same for a bottle of 2010 and wouldn't change the price. The waiters were only interested in their own conversations and not the customers and it wasn't even that busy in the restaurant."

  • "I ate at Bistro Bordeaux between meetings when I had a few hours to kill. Normally dining by yourself can be awkward, but at Bistro Bordeaux I felt like I was transported to France where it is commonplace. The Foi Gras melted in my mouth, the Parisian gnocchi & lamb was excellent, and my wine paired perfectly. Thank you!"

  • "My wife wanted a substitution for a vegetable that was part of a entrée. We had to haggle with the waiter to even have it mentioned and approved by the chef. The wait time from order to delivery was longer than expected and there was an additional long wait to order a dessert. The food was good but not exceptional. The costs was as expected. The French bread was very authentic. Two and a half stars overall."

  • "Friends had been recommending the restaurant for a long time. I am not as nuts about French food as my wife is, but it was her birthday and many friends had recommended the restaurant. The experience was very pleasing: perfect, polite service and very fine food. We had many choices, even with the prix fixe, an affordable way of dining. We will be back. My wife, who does like French cuisine very much and is a good cook herself, pronounced the dining top notch."

  • "I have been here so many times that I've lost count. It's always a pleasure. The french dining experience you can always count on. Menu selection, wine, atmosphere is the best. The Wednesday night prix fixe menu for $30 is a great opportunity to have and enjoy. I highly recommend this restaurant. Unfortunately our evening was ruined by an obvious staff shortage. Service was painfully slow which never happened before. Our table of four were people who had been there multiple times so it was a surprise for us. Had this been our first time we would definitely not return. So I ask you Le Bistro Bordeaux, please don't do this again, don't turn off your loyal customers with bad service because a good menu goes only so far."

Everyone was delighted with their choice. Our waiter was attentive, personable & helpful without hovering. Bistro Bordeaux is better than ever. We can't wait to go back."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for a romantic birthday celebration having never been here before. The atmosphere is fairly laid back considering the prices but still had some nice ambiance. The food was good other than my steak being a little tough. It seems like a good place for an upscale family dinner. The crowd was mostly middle aged. We had good service though and the food was good."

  • "One of the best restaurants in Evanston. The food is great. I'm a pescetarian, but there are plenty of vegetarian and/or fish options. The French bread is addicting. Although the oysters were fresh, the accompaniments were slightly lacking. I like a little spice on my oysters. The beet salad is delicious. Their frites are fabulous....I stole more than a few from my friend. The skate wing was also well-prepared. We passed on dessert as everyone in my party was more than full!"

  • "We are never disappointed when we dine at Bistro Bordeaux. The service is lovely with well informed wait staff, the wine selection is very good. We have asked for wine suggestions many times and have always had a reasonably priced, delicious wine suggested. The oysters were very fresh with lovely sauces. The river trout is always delicious. The entrees have fresh and unique combinations that make choosing difficult. And we also have fun ordering the cheese plate for dessert, letting the chef/wait staff select an assortment. (Always wonderful and allows us try new flavors.) This is definitely one of our top places to dine."

A little ridiculous that my girlfriend had to squeeze through to the booth side (and she's very small, I can imagine it was a little embarrassing for others). This, coupled with the less than good background music, made for a somewhat enjoyable evening. If the room was more comfortable, this would be an excellent dining spot."

  • "Welcomed, seated promptly and graciously. Great decor overall. Waiter was friendly, gracious and helpful. Mussels were plump and tasty. Bread was crusty, fresh and perfect. Bouillabaisse was ample and tasty. Ambiance with glowing candles was perfect. Chocolate terrine dessert was devilishly delicious Good value for $140 incl tip. Being led to a table next to the restrooms shattered the Valentine's Day mood. Not being "allowed by the chef" to order one prix fixe and one entree was frustrating. Being "upsold" on the wine by having the lower priced option described as "barnyard-y" was uncool Steak fritte had a bit too much pepper for my taste. (Probably just me.) Not perfect but a very good, authentic and enjoyable bistro . We'll be back."

  • "My wife and I go to Bistro Bordeaux every Valentine's Day and they never disappoint. The service is wonderful, very attentive but definitely not intrusive or overbearing. We had a wonderful salad and great french onion soup. The trout was amazing with fresh vegetable and a delicious sauce. The restaurant has hanging candles which truly add to the atmosphere. This is a wonderful restaurant for a nice romantic evening."

  • "We dined here for an anniversary celebration not only because of the real bistro ambiance, but also because of the high quality of the food and service. The chef's special touch with foie gras tempts us every time we are here. Our waiter, Matt, was a gem and brought the food in a timely manner and knew exactly which wine to suggest for our meal. The wine list has special selections from "unknown" vineyards. Our server also was gracious and friendly. The quality of the food was also beyond reproach. Here's how much we like this restaurant: we drove in from Michigan to celebrate our anniversary here."

  • "All previous visits here were great. Not so this time. Starting with the valet who disappeared, the evening was doomed. The room was packed, and service was very slow. That was fine. But the food that finally came was not. In fairness, my wife enjoyed her root soup and cassoulet. My rating averaged the two of our meals. I decided to have three starters, and the Lyonnaise salad was first up, and a real treat. Then, the fall: the onion soup, which has been terrific in the past, was badly seasoned with too much pepper and a vinegar-like backtaste. The tarte du jour, mushroom and tomato was soupy and obviously undercooked. By this time, I wasn't about to return it. Something was wrong, and it may be a while before I risk coming here again."

  • "I love steak frites so when I saw the menu, we had to go. Ambiance: Quaint. We were seated in the front so I didn't have full exposure, but it's a good space that features a bar towards the rear. It was a nice gesture that the host offered to take our coats upon entry. Service: Something to be desired. The waitstaff was helpful, when they could be found, but took up to 10 minutes to get answers to some dietary-related questions. I can give this a pass as it was Restaurant Week, but this can improve. Food: Hit or miss. The steak frites were a letdown, with a bland, over-cooked steak. The starters and desserts were great though, so perhaps it's just the steak. Having driven up from Lincoln Park, we wouldn't repeat the trip."
