A word from Bistro Bordeaux
The philosophy of the menu at Bistro Bordeaux is an expression of our French culinary heritage, for which we have a profound admiration. The support of our local farmers allows us to use the freshest produce and seafood, just as one would find in the markets in the south of France. The menu showcases the freshness of these pure ingredients through simple, flavorful combinations.
As the passing of fall brings day light savings time with early nightfall, we are always excited to welcome back the great comfort food dishes typically found in bistros; the first taste of the “Coq au Vin” and the pervading perfumes of the long cooked “Cassoulet Toulousain”, come to mind. It is, in our opinion, this style of cuisine that offers the clearest definition of traditionally rooted French fare
We hope you enjoy the eating as much as we enjoy the preparation in the kitchen and wish you all "Bon appétit"!

  • "One of our favorite French restaurants. Last year we brought a friend who grew up in Montreal there and she requested we go there again on this year's visit. That says it all!"

  • "We asked for two salads to be split between 3 plates -- no big deal but they wouldn't do it in the kitchen. One steak came way over cooked and took about 10 minutes to replace so the rest of us were finished before it came and then the busboys kept trying to clear our plates before the one person was finished. You would think they would have comped a dessert--but they didn't -- bad business as far as I am concerned and for that reason none of the 6 of us will return. They also need to do something about the noise from the kitchen-- very loud and annoying if you were sitting in the back of the restaurant"

  • "Seafood selection was very good and well prepared. Service was a bit slow, but we decided to have desert despite ourselves. We were not disappointed."

  • "Classic French bistro in ambiance, but not food. Food was good , not great. First, the valet parker had an emergency, so there was no valet parking on a Saturday night, which made getting there difficult. The foie gras was very good, small portion, but great taste. I also had the onion soup which was outstanding, equivalent to a real French bistro. I had the trout, overdone, somewhat dry but adequate. My partner had the spring casserole, which was undercooked, some of the fava beans were not skinned, carrots were almost raw. Service was excellent on a very busy night, Eric was very professional. All in all enjoyable, but the food could have been improved."

  • "We were in town for graduation and looking for a great restaurant and we found it! There were six of us and every dinner was fabulous. Our waiter knew all about the food answered all questions and gave suggestions that were excellent. We had wine and dessert and everything was outstanding. We will be back!!!"

  • "The food is classic French bistro fare and well executed. The service was good, the timing of the courses was excellent, and the price was reasonable. A very good value for a nice dinner in Evanston."

Restaurant handled changing number of guests well. Knowing, polite and unobtrusive service. Seemed happy to see us from start to finish. Will return."

  • "We went for a birthday dinner and it was outstanding. Service was incredible and he was a delight. I had dinner the following night at a very expensive french restaurant for triple the price and Bistro Bordeaux was better. Great job on the soft shell crab!! Thank you for a fine evening! We will be back. "

  • "Except for some problems with parking, it is a delightful restaurant and the food is delicious. Quite authentic as French Bistro! "

  • "I would not recommend Bistro Bordeaux. We went there to celebrate a birthday. Its excessive loud , hard to hear anyone next to you. Food is fair at best. The duck was salty , you will not want to eat salt for a week after that. If youlike fine French food this is not the place. I can not see how anyone would rate this as the best new restaurant in Chicago. There was nothing we order that was exceptional. Service was horrible, took over 45 minutes just to get our appetizers . The server has absolutely no knowledge of their wines. "

  • "Unfortunately something has changed since the many other times we have enjoyed Bistro Bordeaux... the conversation noise level of the other diners was incredibly loud, our ears hurt when we left."

  • "Wonderful food and ambiance: feels like I was in France!"

  • "From the glowing reviews we expected a wonderful experience. We were sadly disappointed. We asked for a roomy, quiet table. We were seated at a small table the was squeezed in between 2 large tables. The noise level was quiet at first when we arrived at 6PM. As more people came in, it escalated to a point that we could not hear each other at all. My friend enjoyed the bouillabaisse, but my steak was average and served with only a large pile of french fried potatoes, nothing else. We didn't even order coffee or dessert because we couldn't wait to get out of there. We felt the servers were polite but not very available. We felt ignored, maybe because we are not wine drinkers."

  • "Have dines here many times. Let down that the meal for all 4 of us was not up to previous standards. We all left the restaurant saying we would not go back. The steaks were tough and tasteless and the salmon was not good. Service was fair. Could have been a bad night but they have lost us and our friends. It was our friends suggestion we dine here again because they had loved their last meal. They are not returning."

  • "Mediocre food. Poorly executed preparation. Service was exceedingly slow, impolite and inattentive. Noise level too high, but that seems to be because of poor acoustics of the location. Barely able to sustain a conversation without shouting at your partner. The wine list was very interesting and good, though. In summary, not going back. Not good value for the money you end up spending. Spoke to other patrons on the way out and they had the same impression."

  • "The steak was cooked to perfection and the fries sublime. I had the gnocchi and lamb which was outstanding. The duck confit starter with chocolate and cherries was a real treat and the pear sorbet was fabulous."

  • "We went as a family to celebrate Mother's Day. The service was excellent. They have a nice wine list. The meals were delicious and well presented. "

  • "I was visiting my daughter and I happened to find this restaurant on yelp. She ordered the mussels was were very good and I had a quiche which was ok, but I would definitely go back and try some other dishes. "

  • "We had the latest reservation of the evening. I had a difficult time deciding between too entrees. When our waiter realized he brought the wrong one, we were comped tithe price and it was left for the table to share as an appetizer. Both the Bouillabaisse and Cassoulet were yummy!"

  • "What a great place for a dinner! Everything we have ordered was just wonderful. Assiette de Charcuterie was perfect for an appetizer and of course Escargots de Bourgogne is a must! Bouillabaisse Provençale et sa Rouille (seafood stew) and Loup de Mer en Papillote sea bass was delicious as well. Also there was a great selection of sorbet flavors. I will definitely come back to try the other dishes. "

  • "We had a really wonderful meal here on Friday for our anniversary. The food was amazing (duck confit appetizer, steak and pomme frites, and chocolate ganache dessert). Each item was delicious. Nice wine list. I have a number of food allergies, and they went out of their way to accommodate me. Service was great, staff was friendly. They made a very nice gesture to acknowledge our anniversary. "

  • "Very nice French bistro. The menu had enough variety to satisfy everyone and there are some items I want to return and try. I would also like to try the Sunday brunch. We requested a nice table for our anniversary and we were offered a "nice" table by the window, so it was nice that they paid attention to our request. The waiter was very helpful and allowed us to sample a few wines before ordering. He treated us to an after dinner aperitif and our dessert was on the house too. The tables are very close, especially for the tables for 2, but this worked out well because we had a very nice conversation with our neighbors who dine at the restaurant regularly. It was a lovely evening and we will most likely go again. "

  • "Exactly what to expect following a visit to Paris. The bread, the wine, the food, and the Cream Brule is the best. I wish I lived in Evanston and not Atlanta. I would do the Sunday Brunch every Sunday. If a steak, go with the filet; a much better value. I wish they would being back the Prix Fix; a bit of everything wonderful. I get the e-newsletter with photos and menus. A real tease to read from Atlanta. If I had more money, I would fly up every week."

  • "Everything was perfect. We arrived on time and a quiet table was waiting for us. The hostess took our coats at the door which made dining even more pleasant. We had the cold pate for starters, delicious. The endive salad was divine as were our other entrees. We each had something different, shared and were delighted. Dessert was also wonderful. We talked and talked. We were never rushed. They just kept taking care of us. As we paid the bill,, our waiter, Eric, took our valet checks. Our cars were waiting for us as we left the establishment. A perfect final touch to a perfect evening. "

The menu choices were traditional French yet with contemporary touches. The waitstaff was attentive but not intrusive. The ambiance was intimate and lovely. I cannot wait to try their brunch. Highly recommend."
