Diner Reviews
  • "We love dining here time and again. Business associates really appreciate the flair, spot on cuisine, service and cool setting. Very eclectic, hip, European crowd. Many languages spoken. Feels like Paris or NYC. Good thing food is even better and affordable. Best 3 course Pre Fixe available nightly for 22. and nightly Specials each evening. Don't miss Wed. Steak night: Well seasoned local salad, marinated steak w/ bordelaise and frites, 22. Not even chain restaurants can do this. Combine, high quality of local, fresh and seasonal ingredients @ give away prices, this truly is RVA's best kept secret."

  • "My husband and I always eat here when we visit Richmond. It is always wonderful. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. Disappointing when we can not get a reservation. Try it. You'll love it, also."

  • "After searching the web for a restaurant in Richmond that would be new to us, we came upon Bistro Bobette. There are not many French restaurants in Richmond, so we decided to give it a try. We have made several trips to France, so we had somrthing to compare it with. We were pleasently surprised with the service, setting, and quality of food. The menu seemed to be a bit limited in what most would think is traditional French cuisine, but our waiter, Mat, explained that all food items are locally procured, and the menu is tailored for the season. Cassoulet, for instance, will not be available until winter. In short, we will definitely return!"

  • "BB never dissapoints. Our favorite restaurant! Any time we can we frequent this special gem. Chef is really skilled and the food quality superior to any other spot in town."

  • "This is one of Richmonds best kept secrets...the food is simply fabulous and the staff is so attentive. A must visit for any "foodie" or wine lover. The owners are hands on and really sweet....never overly busy and rushed. A perfect place for a great meal, fabulous cocktail or wine, and people watch...the whos who in richmond frequent this place for lunch and dinner and the ability so sit and watch the world pass by and the weather change with truly delicious french/belgium/farm to table style food is magnificent....Perfect when it snows or rains. Great atmosphere and you can sit and enjoy the finest in nibbles and main courses. One of the top restaurants in Richmond...."

  • "A very good French-inspired restaurant. Worth the trip (and parking hassle)! Food is beautifully prepared and presented - save room for desert! Service was profession - though a bit slow - but the meal is to be savored and shoiuldn't be rushed, anyway!"

  • "Many specials last Saturday night. We really had a difficult decision. Perfect menu for the Season. Everything was well-prepared, flavorful, and was brought to the table promptly and hot. We will be back!"

  • "This is one of our favorite places to go in Richmond and we ALWAYS look forward to it! Their owners are amazing and the food is fantastic. Tonight however was a terrible night. We waited 75 minutes for our food to arrive, with no explanation about the delay and no re-filling of water glasses or asking if we would like another cocktail or some bread while we waited...nothing. The food was delicious as always but the service was so bad. No communication about what was going on, food that showed up without one of the sides indicated on the menu, could hardly find the waitress to ask for the rest of the meal/get more water, etc. I know all restaurants have off nights and I guess this was one of them."

  • "Despite being a French restaurant, the portion sizes were fairly large. I was not expecting the amount of food we got. All of the food was amazing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for something different."

  • "We ate at Bistro Bobette to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. Food was excellent but what made the evening for us was our waiter Ryan. He encouraged my husband to order the rabbit when he was unsure of what to select (my husband loved it!) I was looking for a white burgandy which was not listed on the menu but Ryan promptly assured me it was available by the glass. He even led us to choose between the mousse and the creme brûlée (creme brûlée was one of the best we've had! We were fighting over it!)"

  • "Simple French food cooked with care. Nice atmosphere, great choices for anyone, good cocktails. The prices add up, however."

  • "I recently took my 16 year old for lunch to Bistro Bobette in preparation for his upcoming trip to Paris.... We both loved it. The cheese ravioli appetitzer was amazing! My son had the croquet monsouir and fries and I had a buckwheat crepe filled with prosciutto and cheese and field greens. For dessert of course we had creme brûlée. Matt our server was very attentive attentive and polite. He talked with my son about his upcoming trip to Europe. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Bobette has great ambience, excellent service and splendid food. We enjoyed gazpacho. strawberry salad, monkfish and mountain trout in an enjoyable room. We will visit on our next Richmond trip"

  • "Well, not actually "at last" - I have known Bistro Bobette as a foodie oasis for quite a while. That's a given; but the value added of a quie, pleasant dining experience can not be overrated. Most places seem to think that the louder the music, the closer to the bar the dining area is put - the more "excitement" is generated. Rather like a laugh track can convince an audience something is quite funny. Laugh tracks went the way of the dodo bird, here's hoping. Please, I don't need a surrogate experience that makes me scream at my dinner companion(s) to know whether I am having a good time."

  • "I was visiting relations in Richmond and wanted to take them out for a nice meal, with good wine, as a treat. The atmosphere is warm, with pleasant, "chill" music playing in the background. Whomever selects the play list absolutely Gets It. We had an experienced waiter named John who perfectly struck the balance between being attentive, but also unobtrusive. Service, good service, is a rare thing these days and John's seeming effortlessness is the hallmark of a pro-level waiter. And the food…the FOOD! Each new flavor is an explosion of Pure Joy! Even things that sound as if they do not remotely go together pirouette wonderfully on the palate. It’s as if the chefs there have invented new colors. Go. Eat. Transcend."

  • "I was treated to a lovely Mother's Day lunch. All the food was good, but the chocolate mousse with whipped cream was outstanding. I dn't know how it was made, but I could have eaten of bowl of it!"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "I was disappointed with the service and quality of food we received for our Mother's Day brunch. It took us 2.5 hours (a party of four) to complete our pre-fixed, overly priced, poorly cooked food. We waited over a half hour for our first course and longer for the additional courses. My second course, the lamb, was raw. I also found it obnoxious to have a pre-fixed price for the Mother's Day menu, but add surcharges for certain options. For example, the set price was $42 per person, however if one of us chose the beef wellington as one of the available second courses, you added $14 additional dollars. Finally, our waiter was inattentive and barely showed up at our table. Not dining here again and will not recommend."

  • "Love it here! Combine romantic, hip decor and scene with awesome food and you have a winner. Frankly, not many big city restaurants (sadly, not Richmond) can offer the quality of food offered here. Parisian Chef may be the reason. Best beef tenderloin I have ever had! Even in Europe. Unusual fish offerings and omg the desserts! Knowledgeable wait staff and lovely owner make for a special evening. Can't wait to return. Thank you for bringing your great cuisine to our city and educating us on European style dining! "

  • "Though it is a French restaurant I thought the menu for the month of May was a little on the heavy winter mode. Would have liked a couple of lighter sauced dishes. Liked the cassoulet, but would have enjoyed it more in March. "

  • "You can rely on good service and very good food at Bistro Bobette. I had the squid and seaweed salad that was substantial but not filling. We split the rainbow trout that was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The wine list has a great range of French selections from all regions. Luckily, it was Monday night which meant no corkage fee, so we brought our own Condrieu. Be sure to order the St. Geron sparkling water - the best of the bunch."

  • "Disappointing experience during Restaurant Week. Raved to friends that this is one of our favorite places and then were disappointed with the service and length of time to receive food. Wait staff were rude and not accommodating. Talk to the wife (part owner) and she admitted to bad staff service but made no gestures towards changing the mood or accommodating us. She did offer drinks when we were paying the bill but we had waited so long to get fed that we just wanted to leave. We will not be rushing back.....Such a shame as the food is delicious :( "

  • "A little cozy restaurant in Richmond with nearby parking available. The food was very good and the taste definitely satisfies and meets your expectations from what one might expect from a restaurant like Bistro Bobette. Atmosphere was pleasant but being that it is a small restaurant, it could be uncomfortable if all the seats were occupied. The way the food was prepared, presented, and tasted was enough to delight me but the portion was a bit of a disappointment though. I don't have a big appetite but after a short drive home, I found myself looking for something to eat again. Will I return to this restaurant? I might . . . I don't know."

  • "We dined at Bistro Bobette during restaurant week an were very impressed. Often restaurants offer very limited menus for this prix fix event, but we were very impressed with the options on the menu here. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed a relaxed and well-paced meal."

  • "We like to use Restaurant Week to check out a place we haven't tried before. Bistro Bobette was a great choice. The food was creative and well-prepared and the service was impeccable. We look forward to returning soon!"

  • "Food is mediocre. Everything else is passable. Go to other restaurant in the area for food. Go to Bobbette for the noise. "

  • "Very nice restaurant, owners were very visible and helping with service. It was RVA Restaurant week and the service was superb for how busy the restaurant was on a Wednesday night."

  • "We decided to go to Bistro Bobette for Restaurant Week. Our three course meal was wonderful. Our waiter was very friendly. He helped us pick out a bottle of wine and answered our questions about the menu. I would recommend this restaurant to friends and look forward to eating there again."

  • "In one of our frequent visits to Richmond we found this restaurant and it was a very good experience overall. We travel all over the USA and by far this is an excellent restaurant overall. The owners were there and the lady was making sure everyone was well served and happy. We plan to go back every time we hi back to Richmond and recommend it."

  • "This hot spot has it all. Knowledgeable wait staff , excellent decor and top level cuisine, not available elsewhere. Seasonal Bistro food, hip, lively atmosphere, and hands on owners. Parisian Chef has pioneered by introducing and educating locals to European style dining and cuisine. Not to be missed."

  • "I really like this little place. The food is always interesting and delicious. The daily specials take advantage of fresh seasonal produce. You can make the prices what you want - the early bird and Thursday evening prix fixe menus are extremely reasonable. The waiters are friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The only complaint from our party was the uncomfortable bistro chairs. The raised rim around the seat and the chair back that slopes away from the seat make them hard to sit in for the length of an enjoyable and leisurely dinner."
