  • "I am a frequent at Bis, everything from service to food is on point. Being in the industry myself I respect how diligent and trained the staff is. Not only are the friendly, but professional (shout out to Steve! You are stellar!). New menu items are awesome! I enjoyed the monkfish, which had a nice kick to it but was so unbelievably delicious. Management is perfect as always, Sean is so professional and really took care of us! I love Bistro Bis and they will always have my support."

  • "We had a superb dinner. The beet salad had four kinds of colorful beets and was one of the most stunning salad creations I have ever seen. We asked to share it, and it was plated beautifully for each of us. The Moroccan-spiced sweetbreads, with chickpeas and farro, were crispy and tender and seasoned perfectly, with just the right amont of heat. Delicious. My wife's trout, served with grilled romaine lettuce, was also excellent. The Gruet Brut Rosé from New Mexico was the perfect accompaniment. Service was timely and pleasant. The evening was relaxed and delightful. We have been coming here for years and are already looking forward to returning."

  • "I've enjoyed Bis ever since they first opened many times. And when the Post gave it an OK review recently I said, "I just ate there, was he at the same place?" But I hit a weak night. The kitchen was SO slow, it took forever to get dishes on the table, the wine had to be chilled but the server never told us - it simply never showed up until we asked him about it. Communication was not great. When the mains arrived, my steak was medium, not medium rare which I requested. It must've sat under the lights too long bc the server asked me to check the doneness. To his credit he offered a do over but at this point we waited so long and I just wanted to eat. Sorry guys, a place of your pedigree should be able to serve a full house without issue."

  • "Have eaten at BB countless times, all three meals, and have never been disappointed. The food and service are consistently high quality, and some dishes are outstanding. Salmon is particularly good here with a crispy edge to the exterior. The apple tart dessert is a favorite, but they should bring back the goat cheese ice cream rather than creme fraiche."

  • "On arrival we went to the bar for a cocktail until our friends arrived. Bar staff was pleasant and cocktails not bad. Once our friends arrived we ordered them cocktails and were surprised when the maitre d pressed us to go to our table because "our server is missing you!" I was originally unoffended but when I realized the intent I was irritated that we had been interrupted and manipulated into going to our table a little earlier than we might have done. That said, the server was very nice but the food was average. My husband thought the almost nouvelle cuisine portions unsatisfying relative to the price. Wine was also a bit pricey compared with the quality. There are many eating options in DC so probably wouldn't return any time soon."

  • "We had a great brunch at Bis! They recently changed the menu a little and added several items (chilled watermelon gazpacho) that were delicious! Bottomless mimosas/bloody Mary's was a good deal. A manager came by a few times to check on us. The waitress was great as well, welcoming and efficient. We will return soon!"

  • "We loved Bistro Bis for the great food, fresh ingredients, excellent service, but a recent interview dinner was greatly marred by noisy diners at the next booth. Other diners in the bar were also extremely noisy. I was very tempted to suggest they use their "inside voices." But perhaps this isn't the restaurant's fault. Nevertheless, I will not book an important dinner here again, where I need to hear my dining companions."

  • "The screeching, stomach ache inducing fire alarm kept going off...the first time the staff all just seemed like whatever, but then finally suggested we all leave, times two and three we all stayed. The staff were irritated by it too but the apologies and explanations came far too late. Then after we were finished with after dinner drinks staff started bringing out complimentary desserts (even though we had declined) and on top of it all they were not very good, dry and/or flavorless. We also waited an inordinate amount of time to FINALLY get our check. Usually a place a love but this was a terrible night there."

  • "Food was great, once the seating arrangements clicked . . . arrived early and was there first. Was seated, then waited, and waited. Finally after 25 minutes, called my lunch companion, who had arrived on time and was told she was the first one there, and was seated - elsewhere. In the end, when I called, I found she'd been seated directly behind me and we were back-to-back, not knowing we were waiting and waiting for each other . . . . Otherwise, the food and table service was great!"

I can't seem to order anything for an appetizer but the Beet Citrus Salad; it is amazing. Lately, I've been ordering the Salmon because it literally melts in your mouth.   • "We have been here twice and the food has been outstanding both times. The only flaw was the clientele. So close to the Capitol, Bistro Bis seems to draw self-important congressional and other government types, who thought nothing of occupying a table long after they had finished their meal. That led to our party having to wait 30 minutes for a table (we had a reservation) while one of our party had a plane to catch. There was nothing the restaurant could do and the management was extremely gracious, giving us great service and comped drinks. The upside was the until-then-noisy room got quiet enough for conversation after all the purported power brokers finally left around 1:30 p.m."

Overall I really liked the place and I'd go back again. My only negative is the price. It's super expensive! It's good to go on occasion, but because it's so pricey I won't be able to enjoy it as often as I'd like. But if you're interested in some good food and a nice dining experience, I'd recommend."

  • "just an okay breakfast. Dinner was lovely -- excellent service, nice setting, above average food. Wasn't the best meal I've had in DC, but it was very good. We shared the beet + goat cheese salad and the scallop + beans special to start. Beets were pretty good, but there was only a tiny drop of goat cheese. Re the scallops, they were tiny + few; beans were better. I had the trout with haricots verts for my main course, which was very good; my friend had the salmon, which was also good. Bread, btw, was excellent. For dessert we shared the petit fours. There were a few standouts, but the majority were not good. Breakfast was disappointing. No croissants in the pastry basket, just a lot of heavy, overly sweet breads."

  • "2 dinners: Food was remarkable. Edgar was a very helpful, attentive, and kind server. Server on second night diligent but less attentive. No check in after food was delivered. Breakfast server was very challenged (slow water and coffee refills, no check back, and different server left check without comment leading me to feel rushed). Breakfast food was good but not as extraordinary as dinner. Highly recommend dinner -- especially with Edgar as your server. If not for my breakfast experience I would have given five stars across the board, but alas!"

  • "This was my second visit to Bistro Bis. Both times the service has been really pretentious. The servers make a big song-and-dance about a formal introduction, but can't pronounce French properly. The items on the menu, from the cocktails to the main courses, have odd ingredients (twists on traditional recipes) that, frankly, don't work very well together."

  • "We've gone twice for company group lunches and the service has been extremely slow and the wait staff less than friendly. The food has been great but we are leery to go again unless we know we have at least an hour and half in the afternoon to get back to the office. I had the burger both times and was extremely satisfied with it. Others in the party enjoyed their dishes, trout, risoto etc. but didn't feel full afterward. The wait staff was hesitant to make dietary substitutions, scoffing at simple requests to replace the hamburger bun with lettuce."
