Dinner at Bistro BisThe escargot, the sweetbreads, the trout, and the duck, all excellent. The service, as always, was professional yet cordial.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAWESOME FOOD, BEST EATS WEAWESOME FOOD, BEST EATS WE HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place. ConsistentlyLove this place. Consistently good for business lunch.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA fine experienceWe had a meal suitable for a major anniversary. I had the halibut and my lovely wife chose the lamb shank. Both entrees were large and very tasty. We concluded an excellent meal by sharing a very large and tasty creme brûlée. The 1000 miles between home snd DC prevents us from being regulars but we will be back when we are in town..6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulFood, service, ambiance, price -- excellent all around.
------------------------------------------6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Steak Tartare in TownMy family and I have been coming to the Bis for years and I always suggest it to out of towners looking for a great meal with very good service. Modifications are taken in stride while always adhering to the highest standards of French cuisine, without any pretention at all. Whether you are the Speaker of the House or a tourist in jeans, the Bis' staff will treat you with the same respect and friendship as they do everyone else.
My father and brother rarely stray from the steak frites or rich and authentic French Onion soup. The Steak tartare needs no introduction - ask for extra dijon and some cornichons (unbelievable). Escargot & mussels are always delicious, the specials and wine pairings are frequently impressive.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Caring StaffHad a great server....Erica. She was knowledgable on the menu and made great food and wine recommendations. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and she was attentive, participated in the spirit of celebration but did not hover. We both had fish dishes and they were amazing. Highly recommend.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMfab French tastesThe beet salad was excellent (and I don't ever eat beets!) A good choice for those lactose intolerant diners because the cheese was on the side, The pear salad with blue cheese was also very good and an enormous portion. The other diners weren't too partial to the sides (mac & cheese; cauliflower, broccoli and hazelnuts). All main courses were cooked to perfection and I don't think you could have a bad choice on the menu! A nice end to the evening with desserts and excellent pressed coffee.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant SurpriseI chose the restaurant for a group of serious foodies. When we walked in (it's in the Hotel George) my heart sank. It looks like a hotel restaurant -- dull, a bit dated and over-lit. But oh, the food. I would say that the chef deviates from the classical so deftly that you almost don't notice -- you just know you're tasting a really exceptionally rendered version of the original. I had the quenelles, which I love but have been disappointed by on occasion. These were heavenly, with a light and delicate texture and a deep, rich sauce. The salade Lyonnaise was assertive and delicious. The perfectly crisp sweetbreads were served with a kind of tomato compote that made me levitate. We loved our server, who was actually the bartender.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic dining experienceOur wait or, Steve, really knew the food and wine very well and was able to answer all our questions and offer suggestions. The food was exceptional as was the service.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFlawless food and serviceI don't have a single complaint about this restaurant. I was greeted by very cordial hosts and shown to my table. My server was attentive and helpful, but not constantly underfoot. The food was delicious and well-portioned. I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion. It was a true delight.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience! The food choices, preparation and presentation were excellent. Our waiter was not only cheerful and attentive, but asked if we needed to be finished by a certain time and served accordingly. We had requested a quiet table and were seated in isolated area. Later, as the restaurant filled, the noise level went to moderate. My birthday was celebrated with clever dish decorations and a quiet congratulations from the staff.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeMy husband and I have been coming here for the last 10 years whenever we get to DC. It is attached to the Kimpton Hotel George, which if you have never stayed at a Kimpton Hotel it is definitely worth it. The food was outrageously good. It is a pricey restaurant so not a place to do if you are looking for a budget meal but if you are celebrating a romantic event - so worth it.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Find Near Union StationFirst time here and this was an excellent choice, well deserving of its online accolades. I can be somewhat of a nitpicker when I go to a fine dining place, but I have no nitpicking issues to air with Bistro Bis. It's tucked away in the George Hotel on West E Street, so keep your eyes peeled as the streets around Union Station go in all directions. It's an easy walk from Washington Union Station for you train buffs.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dinnerThis is our second dinner at Bistro Bis. Again it was wonderful. All of our dinners were outstanding. The wine list may be very good but it is also very expensive. But not to worry. The wines by the glass were very good and made a very nice addition to our meals. The portion size was just right We were asked when we were seated if we were going to the theatre and what time we wanted to leave. We had made our reservations with plenty of time but to say our meal was served so expertly that we never were rushed and we were finishing our coffee and had our check paid to the exact time we wanted. I don't think I have had a pre theatre meal served so perfectly in a very long time. Well worth the trip5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experienceBoth the food and the service were wonderful. We dined early in the evening due since we had theatre tickets. The waiter kept that in mind as we dined. He was knowledgable and very pleasant. Our need were met beautifully.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI had been to Bistro Bis onceI had been to Bistro Bis once before for Restaurant Week and had an amazing experience. Our waiter was energetic, knowledgeable and very helpful. The presentation of each course matched the overall quality of the meal and no one was disappointed. I would definitely recommend this place and intend to return for another special occasion.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experience. GreatExcellent experience. Great food and even better service.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence on E StreetOne of the top French restaurants in the City. Took my wife on Mother's Day. Everything was excellent: French toast, softshell crabs. Definitely on my list of favorites.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro Bis, Always a Crowd PleaserMy party and I had a breakfast seating, and the menu does not disappoint. We ordered a pastry basket for the table to share and a round of the Omelet Monte Cristos. Our orders were promptly delivered to the table, and water, coffee and tea cups stayed full thoughout our dining service. The waiter was attentive and ensured that we had everything that we needed without being overbearing. Bistro Bis never fails to provide superior service - and cuisine - whether you are visiting during Restaurant Week, a power lunch, or a special occassion.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome French CuisineWe celebrated Mothers Day on Saturday evening and had a wonderful experience. The food was great and the service was exceptional.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNice, small quality ResturantNear Union Station, excellent food, but you likely will need reservations... Good choice for quality food.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceWe had great food and service at Bistro Bis and the wine choices are staggering, with many old world wines. We had the pâté plate to start and were overwhelmed by the choices. I really enjoyed the duck pâté! This is a great place for French food.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWill go back againOne of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. Can always count on good food with a nice presentation.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDined here twice during myDined here twice during my stay, and I very seldom will do that because I want to find all the great places I can. This was at the top of my list both times!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time andThis was our first time and we will be back. We requested a corner table, as we were celebrating our anniversary and our wish was fullfilled. We also appreciated that when our dessert was served our waiter wished us a happy anniversary and the dessert plate had "happy anniversary" written around the edge in chocolate. This was a very nice touch. The food was top notch. We had the escargot, duck and the game hen special.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMa great experienceOur server was especially knowledgeable and attentive. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMNo espressoThe restaurant serves interesting food that you might expect to find in a large east or west coast city. The staff was super friendly; charming. One small criticism is that only French press coffee is served and not espresso. After having such a wonderful meal with excellently paired wines, a good cup of espresso would have been a nice end to an excellent evening.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA definite find. WonderfulA definite find. Wonderful menu and presentation. Staff is knowledgable and provides great service without intrusion.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful meal. THey consistentlyA wonderful meal. Love to see restaurants with multiple the non-pasta options for vegetarians. Service was impeccable - we had a lovely timed meal. Our meals were cooked just as we ordered them. Finally, I know opinions differ on ordering the specials, but we had a coupe of special entrees and the special Cherry Blossom dessert - superb!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is one to return to againThis is one to return to again and again. I debated whether the food should be a 4 or a 5 and only marked it down a small notch (if there was a 4.7 that would have been my choice, because of just small sauce execution details. The portions, presentation, flavors with the fish dishes we had did not disappoint. Classical French style without gimmicks. The restaurant is well designed for conversation, the service attentive and perfectly timed.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about our visitEverything about our visit to Bistro Bis was exzcellent. Atmosphere, food presentation, food quality, food taste, pace of the meal, all great. Relaxed but attentive service also highlighted our visit. Great for expense accounts.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAll we ate tasted was incredible. All we ate tasted was incredible. Interesting combinations and tastes, not your old stand- by French restaurant menu. I loved the oyster casserole. Service was good, not pretentious. Location, near Union Station, worked very well for us as my daughter had to catch a train back to NYC.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways worth a return visitI always look forward to returning the Bistro Bis and last week I had that opportunity when I invited a group of colleagues for dinner. The restaurant is always lively and this year, we were escorted to an upstairs table that made us feel we were in a private dining room. The food is always remarkable -- there were rave reviews about the steak frites, the beet salad, and the scallops. I found that the seabass curry was not a curry at all but two delicate pieces of sea bass with a drizzle of curry sauce.
The desserts were delicious and memorable. Each had a special presentation and equally delicious.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasure to returnAlways a pleasure to return to one of my old favorites.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AM...a very elegant brunch at...a very elegant brunch at a quite reasonable price. It continues to please with a solid, changing, modern menu. The staff is pleasant and resourceful, always welcoming old customers and making new ones feel embraced. The cuisine is excellent and the presentation lovely. I have entertained board members there very comfortably and met out of towners there knowing that there will be no hitches.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI would definitely recommendI would definitely recommend Bistro Bis. The food is always good with a variety of menu options. The manager provides you with a warm reception and ensures the service is good. The only downside is that it takes a while for the food (usually there for more than an hour at lunch. That does not keep me from going back. The seafood dishes and mussels are always exceptional.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe go to Bis every few months. We go to Bis every few months. We always ask for a table in Steve's section. He is a first class waiter, although the wait staff is generallyeexcellent.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food, outstanding serviceMy girlfriend thought the Lobster Bisque was almost as good as Dominique's used to serve. My cassoulet, selected on the waiter's recommendation, was a tasty and hearty beginning. She got the lamb shank and I the pork chop. Both were delicious. Each of the several glasses of wine we tried were good. We ended with a shared apple tart that almost caused us to duel with our forks.
Service was friendly and attentive with helpful information and suggestions about the menu.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBistro B never disappoints!Bistro B never disappoints!
