Diner Reviews
  • "We have been passing this place for years and lately noticed the parking lot was always full - a good sign we thought. Boy were we right. We were seated promptly by the owner (even though we arrived early) at a beautiful table with a view. The server was very engaging and professional and we went with their recommendations. Barbeque Shrimp (tasty, succulent and the perfect sauce for the fresh bread) pineapple salad (fresh, zest and delicious). Entrees were Pork (falling off the bone, outstanding sauce) and the chicken (delicious combination of smoked ham, smoked cheddar and carmelized onions). We loved it all - can't wait to return when we are back in Stowe in July."

  • "The dog mess on the lawn should have been an indicator of something not quite right. After being seated I notice the underside of tables had had glued carpet padding hanging down, (noise absorption?). Upon the delivery of my first course I was upset to find the roasted red peppers had been fermenting in their own juices from being stored and spoiled. I returned the dish and informed the waitress. Of course apologies were made. Our main course, although not spoiled had signs of having sat on the refrigerator shelf for some time. Plate presentations only worsened the experience. The bottle of wine was the best part of the meal. I should have listened to my internal instincts and left. Lesson learned."

  • "We'll definitely come back. Great menu featuring fresh seafood flown in from Boston. Our server was attentive and helpful. This is a great addition to the Stowe restaurant scene."

  • "Went to dinner here while my wife and I were up at Stowe for the weekend with our three kids. Great food, flavorful and beautiful. For appetizers I recommend the mussels, the oysters were fresh and delicious, and the pate was outstanding. The braised pork shank was tender, delicious and very flavorful. My wife loved the duck and the staek frites was delicious. Overall a great restaurant and a wonderful dinner."

  • "I started with a cocktail, it is horrible. The waitress said no one had ever ordered this drink before. Really!!! My husband had fillet of sole and he said a nice piece of fish was drowning in some kind of sauce which ruined it. I had the duck which was ok but the red cabbage was terrible and the potatoes were undercooked and hard. My sister and brother in law own a restaurant and I served there so I know the way around a restaurant and bar. We were very disappointed."

  • "This was our first time to this restaurant. A few friends had told us that we must try it, and they weren't wrong. The menu had lots of varied choices (something for everyone), and the food was amazing. Plus, the prices were very good for the quality and quantify of food we received. Don't overlook the cocktail menu!"

  • "We had dinner after a day of skiing and found the food very hardy and unique. The cocktails are expensive, but good. This was our our favorite meal out of three nights at Stowe."

  • "The chef is creative and inventive, and the food reflects these talents. The restaurant is part of an old lodge, and there are several rooms that serve as dining rooms. The old building has low ceilings which make it not at all noisy unless, of course, there is a large party. One large room seems to be dedicated to the large groups, and at least two other smaller rooms are used for tables of 2, 4, and 6, which is a great way to sequester all the noise. All the rooms are attractive and are decorated with paintings from a local, upscale gallery. The staff is both attentive and efficient. And, last but not least, the food is terrific. All in all, a wonderful experience/evening."

  • "We had an amazing meal that was only matched by the wonderful service provided by the bartender, hostess, and our waiter. Everyone was friendly but not intrusive. The food and drinks were made of high quality ingredients and were very tasty. We hope to visit again soon!"

  • "With many new places popping up in the last few years around Northern and central VT, it can be hit or miss when looking for that gem of a restaurant. Last Saturday was definitely a hit. To add to the pressure, we had the In-Laws with us so a miss may have been catastrophic. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive without being annoying. Most importantly, the food was outstanding. My roasted lobster was very tasty, and my wife loved the vegetarian dish. The duck and pork were also well received by the folks. The place is very cool inside, small and intimate. This did create a bit higher noise level with some children nearby, but never to the point of discomfort. All in all, an excellent night. We will be back."

  • "Great place off the beaten trail in Stowe. Staying or skiing at Trapps, go here! Super friendly vibe but professional at the same time. This place actually reads the the requests section when making OT reservations."

  • "We have eaten at all of the local favorites this week. Thus far the Bistro was the most enjoyable. The interior of the restaurant is wonderfully inviting. The food is excellent- we tried the tomatillo based spanish lasagna appetizer which was original and tasty. Others ordered the pineapple appetizer which was visually outstanding and also delicious. The entrees (cod and pork) were excellent. The food took awhile to create but it was worth it. We received a gracious apology as well. Overall, look to get inspired cooking and excellent service. We are likely to return."

  • "Everyone at our table had the pork shank, which was delicious and very filling. The appetizers were good, as well. We had a very good server and the overall experience was just what we were expecting. I have eaten at Ten Acres Bistro regularly since it opened and have rarely been less than fully satisfied."

  • "My husband, 9 year old son and I made a reservation for dinner on 2/27. We loved Ten Acres - the menu selection of an eclectic array of fresh foods, coupled with the ambiance of the restaurant and superb wait staff were highlights of our visit. The pineapple salad was outstanding as was the salmon special. Our 9 year old had a burger which he enjoyed. We were also impressed with the slate table top which allowed us to bide time with our son while playing tic tac toe and drawing pictures - A fun addition to the dinner! When we are back at The Trapp Family Lodge we will definitely be back for a visit!"

  • "Since we've had dinner at the Bistro many times, we brought out of town guests. Six of us enjoyed everything. The menu is not overly extensive, but there is something for every taste. Our waitress was pleasant, efficient and attentive. The atmosphere is festive yet warm and old country inn."

  • "My wife and I go to Stowe once a year during ski season. We belong to a ski club and generally have 50 to 80 people on this annual trip. The Bistro at 10 Acres is the best food we have found in the area. Very creative and tasty. This will be our ace in the hole for our annual trip. Only downside--- the patron 1 table away that found it necessary to carry on a cell phone conversation in such a nice restaurant."

  • "The Bistro has a small but nice variety of menu items from which to choose. The bread before the meal came warmed as though it was fresh out of the oven and tasted fantastic. The mesclun salad was large enough to split between two people with just the right touch of dressing. My wife had the lobster which she found to be fantastic. I chose something a bit different than my usual path and went with the tomato & goat cheese pasta (I added chicken) and found that to be outstanding. Chef Gary definitely has a talent for preparing food! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a casual dining spot with fine dining quality food. Make sure to make reservations a few days in advance as they fill up quickly."

  • "The Bistro at Ten Acres is under new management and the new menu has a variety of choices. From the Bistro Steak Frittes to the Cheddar Chicken Breasts everything is farm to table fresh. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 7:15pm reservation but still were seated immediately. A nice table for 3 next to the fireplace. Pacing of the drinks, appetizers, and entres was perfect. We split an excellent apple cobbler for dessert. Not so great a place for young kids, but our teenager loved it!"

  • "The food was good at Bistro at Ten Acres, the wine list was pretty terrible though. A bottle they tried to sell for $90 retails at $25. Understanding there is an up charge when ordering a bottle of wine out at a restaurant we both felt this up charge was a bit insane. We did not get dessert as nothing was appealing but we did ask for lattes and cappuccinos but they only have regular coffee and tea - major bummer. Personally this is a good average restaurant in my opinion and from what I hear about it being the place to eat in Stowe I can't say I'd come back again. There are just to many options to try."

  • "This is a real gem in Stowe! Reasonable prices with excellent food. We had duck pate and mexican dish for appetizer. Both were superb. For entree, we got the pork shank (incredibly tender) with sweet potatoes; and the duck with new potatoes. Both dishes were excellent. Only complain is the cocktails have no prices beside them, and the marguerita was $12!!! Server was very competent and appropriately attentive"

  • "I brought my brother & his wife (they were visiting from Boston) & we all enjoyed ourselves very much. The food was excellent. The menu has many great choices. The cocktail menu was also a very nice surprise. I travel internationally quite a bit, so my expectations are pretty high - & the food quality & presentation here is excellent. Cocktails were excellent. Our waiter (Alex, if I recall correctly) was great! I highly recommend this restaurant."

Our server, Tim, was so nice and efficient too. We really liked this place and will certainly be back. Ambiance was laid back"

  • "If you are in Stowe, skip this place and go to The Whip! We arrived promptly for 6:30 reservation and we were greeted and seated immediately. we were looking forward to a great meal as the place is adorable and reviews seemed good. servers were nice. place was clearly unorganized overwhelmed. never took our drink order etc, had to keep flagging people down. cocktails took 1/2 hour, should have been a sign. appetizers another 1/2 hour. soup was COLD. husband wanted to walk out. should have. entrees took over 2 hours!! everyone around us was in same boat. unreal. quality of veal was good but sauce was too much , everything was all overly sauced! trying too hard to be creative, pineapple app was a joke- 40 cherry tomatoes jarred peppers ha ha."

  • "This is a renovated farm house with charming decor. A nice fire was burning the double sided fireplace. we started with duck soup with wild rice. My brother and I ate every drop. My brother had steak and I had the swordfish special. Although it took a little longer than expected for the entreess to be served, it was well worth the wait. We highly reccomend."

  • "We ate here twice during our week vacation in Stowe. Great food and atmosphere. Service was also very good. I was happy to find they had a vegan option(Vegetable Curry) on menu that was really good. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area."

  • "The food here was great and they actually give you a decent portion instead of the places that try to be fancy and just want to make the plate look pretty. Everything was so flavorful and delicious! I really did not have any complaints at all"

  • "Fellow diners were "surprised VT had such good food". There's no need to leave your high expectations in the big city. We enjoyed our meal very much. Try the chicken with a Cheddar Apple sauce - not sweet and the perfect apres ski meal - or perfectly grilled salmon. Homemade Apple Crisp with VT Vanilla ice cream was an enjoyable dessert. Very friendly wait staff (thanks, Tim!) Atmosphere is lovely in an authentic Vermont farmhouse; ask to sit in the front parlor if you want to enjoy the fireplace and valley views. The rear dining room is more spacious but sparsely decorated and better suited for breakfast/lunch than dinner. Short list of wines by the glass, but good variety. Try the Ilahe pinot noir from Oregon for a real treat."

  • "All the main courses have a unique creative touch. We both had the chicken- generous portions of cutlets done with roasted peppers, smoked Grafton VT cheddar cheese, layered with house smoked ham, topped with carmelized onions and surrounded by boiled red potatoes in a light cream sherry sauce. We had plenty for a wonderful leftover lunch. Wonderful homemade breads!"
