Bistro Aix - SFAmazing Food!I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. Needing a great place for a date night I found this place and was able to get a reservation for Wednesday for Saturday Night. Not only is the food very affordable, it was delicious. Started out with a butter lettuce salad with crispy fried goat cheese (melted in your mouth). Crispy fried calamari was amazing. The entrees however were the star of the show. I had a leg of lamb, wonderfully seasoned and cooked perfectly. My friend had seared ahi tuna, that was the best tuna I have ever had. The service was attentive and friendly, and more than happy to accommodate requests. This night we arrived an hour and fifteen minutes late for our reservations. The hostess was understanding and accommodating and got us in quickly. Server Peter was efficient and helpful (we moved tables) and the food was excellent as always starting with the House Cured Salmon on Potato Galette with Dill Cream & Baby Greens with salmon special and the Grilled Rare Hawaiian Ahi Tuna with Mashed Potatoes, Fried Baby Spinach & Spicy Port Sauce as entrées. Wine service is excellent.

It seems like I've had slightly better meat itself but I'm not reading much into that. The lamb also had an interesting preparation for its spinach (I think): it was a stiff, crinkly texture which was unusual but kind of nice. The scalloped potatoes had a bread crumb topping which was a simple but good addition.
I had the buttermilk panna cotta with an apricot topping. If I was a bigger fan of buttermilk I might've liked the panna cotta more but it was all right. The apricot topping was thoroughly wonderful, though. I can't remember the spices in it but they were right up my alley.
Oh, and the first course was the white bean soup with basil and I forget the rest. What I didn't necessarily expect was the quality of the food. We started with eggplant and calamari appetizers, both of which were excellent. Half of us had the seared ahi, and the other half had the grilled lamb. Because my wife and I shared the two, I can tell you from personal experience they were both outstanding. The wine was also excellent, as was the service. We sat in the back "patio" area, which I would recommend, as the sound level is much lower than the front bar area. The pasta with the truffles and peas really good. Chicken was delicious as were the crispy artichokes. Service was really friendly - only complaint is that we ordered a fairly expensive bottle of wine and after initial pour we were on our own to pour for ourselves. No big deal, but we usually tip on the wine, so that might have been a nice touch.
