Bistro Aix is a chef owned neighborhood bistro. Purchasing the finest local ingredients from farmers and selecting grower/producer, naturally made wines is what sets us apart.   • "Excellent food and service, fairly priced. Bistro Aix is a beautiful restaurant - most especially the large back room with the tree in the center, open to a very large skylight. The photographs everywhere are also wonderful. However, when the room got full around 6:30, things became really noisy - my dining partner and I could no longer converse. They will pour half-glasses of wine, which is a real plus when you're having multiple courses."

  • "We had an excellent experience here on Sunday evening. Though the wine list is extensive and quite good, we brought two bottles anyway because we really wanted to drink these wines ($20 per bottle corkage fee). Our appetizers were beautifully presented: sardines, grilled octopus (my favorite), and the lamb meatballs (also very tasty). My entree was the squid ink pasta with bottarga, my husband had the Dungeness crab pasta, and our friend had the classic steak frites. Portions were generous and the ambiance was very relaxed, so we took our time and really got a chance to enjoy our dinner. The only drawback was that when the dining room was packed, it was hard to get a server's attention, but it eventually worked itself out in the end."

Suggest diners sit on chairs if possible as the back wooden bench type seating is somewhat uncomfortable. Other than that, good place to eat in the Chesnut / Lombard St. area."

  • "The leg of lamb was everything I thought it would be! Extensive wine list. You could tell it was a very popular place, it was packed even by 6:15pm (Sat. night). I would definitely go again, but I might take a cab, I had to drive around 20 mins. for a parking place and ended up 5 blocks away. I was worth it though. Make sure you have a reservation. Service was excellent. An all together great place!"

  • "This was our first time dining at Bistro Aix. We took our parents based on a rave recommendation from a friend. From start to finish the meal was incredible. The calamari was light and flavorful, housemade squid ink pasta was decadent, and the roast chicken was superb! The wine and beer list offerred a magnificent selection, however, we had intended to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail at Bistro AIx and they only serve beer and wine."

  • "We had a wonderful meal and a fairly comfortable visit. It was, however, so noisy that it was difficult to converse at times. The tables were very close together, and it was easier to hear the neighbors than ourselves. Still, I would highly recommend Bistro Aix for the delicious recipes. I don't think you could go wrong. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. If it weren't for the noise level, the back enclosed patio was very charming."

  • "Very good dinner. Clean ingredients, which is always a huge plus in my book. We had the pulpo appetizer, which is a variation on the traditional spanish octopus with potatoes. Tender and juicy. the potatoes were tasty. the portion was ridiculously small...quite a few potato, very little pulpo. We shared the gnocchi, which was tasty, clean and good. the only negative was a little too much butter. still very solid. good size portion. The lamb was very good. almost perfect. the meat portion was very small, just three slices of lamb. the potato gratin was very good and a larger portion. dessert was great: chocolate cake! we left thinking they are a little generous with their potatoes but that was the only negative as dinner was great."

The sorbet for desert was perfect. I was impressed with their food and their ambiance, especially given that their prices weren't outrageous at all. We've paid a lot more and had a less quality experience in SF. Thank you, Bistp Aix!"

The squid ink pasta was a little disappointing only bc the texture of the pasta came off a little too al dente (?), but honestly, splitting hairs and only noticeable bc of eating at other pasta places in the city. Also had the tagliatelle which was awesome and the duck confit/pork belly that was delicious. Would definitely go again."

The food is outstanding. Every dish we had was perfectly balanced. It tasted great so that we wanted to keep eating, but we were satisfied when finished. My dish was rare sashimi grade grilled ahi tuna over perfect mashed potatoes with fried spinach and spicy port sauce. The port sauce was not overpowering; it was light with subtle middle eastern style spices. It complemented the tuna without competing. My sister had the chicken breast, which was juicy and perfectly seasoned. My brother-in-law had a crab pasta that he described as wonderful. Make reservations."

  • "This is definitely one of our favorites in the Marina. Food is always excellent, service friendly, the back-room is perfect if you want a quiet spot in a corner. As the evening progresses, it gets louder but never oppressive. Tables in the front are definitely "energetic". It was remodeled a few years ago and much nicer. Prices are reasonable, wine list extensive (leans towards higher end wines) but lovely all around."

It is a great place to bring the whole family and since I have kids ranging from 6-17 years old that is hard to find. For that reason alone I am more patient with the slow service which is reminiscent of European dining. The food is consistently excellent and always yummy."
