Having been here before this past summer for their burger and beer special for $10 , and really impressed by the quality of burger patty, the bun, the onion confit, and frites, I thought it a great place to bring more friends. Other than the service, and French onion soup this second time was a HUGE disappointment. I had asked that the patty didn't be ever cooked- more medium which they had done for me this past summer. Not only was the patty completely dry, but the quality of meat was terrible. The bun was dry and poor as well. The frites were edible. The steak quality my friends ordered was bad, as was the cassoulet. Terribly disappointing food.

Had the fixed prix dinner and every course was delicious!! Perfect sized portions and super, friendly service. Highly recommend this great bistro. Much better than many high priced French restaurants in Toronto.

Menu looked great -food was hit and miss. Tourtière was excellent, salmon, not so much. Limited wine selection.

Literally just walked through the door after having dinner here and ran to my computer to write this review. Bistro 896 is such a hidden gem of the Leslieville area. My party of 8 and I were extremely pleased with our experience here. The service was fantastic. The owner was super sweet, friendly, and accommodating. The deals here are OUTRAGEOUS. $15 for a Prix Fixe dinner if you come Tues/Wed between 5-9pm, or Thurs-Sun between 5-6:30. $25 for Thurs-Sat after 7pm. $10 burger & pint of beer deals Tues-Thurs. $3 cesars and mimosas for brunch. The list of specials goes on & on. You just can't beat that value. Everything we had was executed well and bursting with flavour. HIGHLY reccomended.
