Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I are Northport locals and eat at Bistro 44 at least once a month, sometimes twice a week. The food is always great and the many of the choices have a creative take to them that we love. The Calamari is the best around, the Tuna TarTar is fantastic and we love every entree' we've ever tried."

  • "Asked for a booth through Opentable - got a table for 4 in the cramped window space next to a noisy foursome. Food OK, service fine, just do not like the table placement in this restaurant - very, very tight. Tables against the wall for 2 are very good - but if you do not get 1 of the 3 booths for 4, you are in for a noise-fest. Next time we ask for a booth and do not get one, we will leave."

  • "Went here for a wonderful date with my girlfriend. The both of us love wine and their selection was outstanding. They had a little bit of everything. The food was great as well, service was always on time and just knew when we were ready for something else."

  • "We were a small group of women who wanted a good dinner before the 8pm show at the Engemann Theater. The waiter was attentive to the fact that we needed to be finished by a certain time. The food was fantastic. I had the Kobe burger -- outstanding! My friends had the wild Alaskan salmon and the roasted chicken, and we were all happy with our meals. The ambience is great!"

  • "I have been to Bistro 44 many times and have always enjoyed the total experience. This time I was extremely disappointed. My friend and I decided to have the brunch special which included a basket of croissants and muffins, coffee or tea and an alcoholic beverage for another $8. The basket contained a couple of cut up burnt chocolate chip muffins. We asked about the croissants and our very waiter came back with another chocolate chip muffin, not burnt this time and apologized for not having anything else. Also, we had been sitting for 20 minutes after ordering before the basket arrived. The food was fair at best, with the Texas toast being two pieces of slightly thicker than normal white bread. Something amiss here. Not returning for sure."

  • "I went on New Years Eve and had a 4 course meal. I was very pleased with all four courses. Had mussels in a broth that was tender to start, a wonderful salad of greens with walnuts & squash, for dinner, a tasty salmon and the best thing was the dessert! It was like a creme brulee, with caramel that crunched on top, and a chocolate cigar as well. I'd just go back for the dessert! I recommend this restaurant for good quality food, a bit pricey, but worth it!"

  • "Step into Bistro 44 and you might think you are in an upscale, intimate NYC restaurant...except the check will be significantly smaller, the location will be adorable and significantly less frenetic, and the parking will not require a home equity line of credit. The food and service, however, will match the very high standards so many diners expect in Manhattan. Definitely worth a visit."

  • "We found this restaurant online and chose it for its menu and pricing. When we drove past it looking for a parking spot, it didn't have much curb appeal and we thought about changing our plans. Plenty of restaurants to choose from on that street! But we decided to go with our instincts and once we walked inside we were delighted. Nice smallish restaurant, elevated cozy booths, and lovely decor. Nice place for a romantic dinner. The food didn't disappoint either. One suggestion on the pistachio chipwich... a lighter crispier cookie. Also, while it advertised Haagen Daz pistachio, the ice cream was green and I'm pretty sure the Haagen Daz is not."

  • "Excellnet, as always. That said - please go back to the way you used to prepare the rib-eye. Liked the old rub much better. Also, what happened to the pear shaped potatoes.."

  • "Bistro 44 is a charmingly decorated restaurant with a stunning bar and excellent service. The food, unfortunately, was a disappointment. The lobster in my cioppino was underdone, and my wife's New Zealand rack of lamb was quite fatty. An onion soup appetizer, by contrast, was excellent. We did not stay for dessert. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I am unable to recommend Bistro 44. The place does have a pleasant ambience and fine service, and of course it's always possible that we just happened to hit it on a very off night."

  • "Pleasant, quiet atmosphere with a concise menu and pleasant staff. Dinner was good with ample portions. Staff was attentive and pleasant but not extremely knowledgable about wine selection. Overall a very pleasant experience and we would return."

  • "We were two couples, we all had the pre theatre prix fix for $32.00 each. It was excellent, I had the chicken, two people had the wild salmon and the other person had the strip steak. The salmon came a little too rare and they for my friends liking. They immediately took it to the kitchen and cook it through. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. The weather was perfect, we ate in the garden which was very private and lovely. We would definitely go back again."
