The number 29 comes from the department of Finistère (end of the earth) located in the upper tip of north-west France. - UnderwhelmedSUZIVIPDined on 9/27/2014I was excited by the creativity and variation of the menu. Unfortunately, the execution didn't live up to our expectations. The Seafood Cassoulet was a good idea but came out as a very timid dish that would have greatly benefited by saffron or another bold spice. The mussels should have been rejected by the kitchen on the basis of their size alone. They were as tiny as pencil erasers and just about as interesting. The baked sardines were dry. I fear this restaurant is not living up to it's potential. I know it can do better!

And the entrees weren't anything to write home about. I'm usually very positive in my reviews, but this time I just didn't enjoy the meal.

We had the snapper fish for main course. Mine was way over cooked with not a good Tate's to it. I was very disappointed . The dessert was hard to chew. Very well cooked biscuit with whipped cream and chocolate.

The chef uses the highest quality ingredients and prepares them in such a way that each element is celebrated. If you are looking for incredible food in a nice, but relaxed atmosphere, this is it. The French Onion soup was fab and so were our gnocchi and steak frites. really all of the food was outstanding. The not-as-good: Our server seemed a little off: the first interaction we had with her was when she came to the table and immediately asked if he had decided on what to order; no real greeting, etc. Interactions were fairly simple and limited and she wasn't particularly engaging. I specifically noted in our online reservation that we were celebrating our 10th anniversary and that we honeymooned in Paris so we were looking to recreate that experience, but none of this was ever mentioned throughout our evening there.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.

Food was fine but I was disappointed with the portion size of my dinner. Had the snapper and the taste was fine but barely any snapper on my plate mostly broth and bread. I even noticed another customer who had the snapper complain about the same thing was disappointed with that but otherwise the restaurant was good. Seemed to be kid friendly and service was prompt. If the portions are bigger I would go back left dinner hungry and needed a snack when we got back to hotel.Special Features:

The service seemed appropriate for the Bistro title but not worthy of the prices. Our table was crammed close to other tables so not a great place for conversation. When I requested to change tables I was declined even though there were other tables available. I guess non-OpenTable reservations have lowest priority.

Tried their signature crepes as a starter and it was underwhelming at best. The waiter was not tremendously polished and I guess this reflects more of a casual bistro rather than a more sophisticated atmosphere for a romantic dinner. The highlight was dessert: flour- less chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream-exceptional. Overall, it might be better as lunch stop, but certainly too many very good restaurants in the area to choose this one again.

Checked in regularly when we had food, bread, and water but when we needed something (like when we first sat down) they took some time getting to us. Not a big deal, and not much of a frustration but it shouldn't happen on a Saturday night. Most of the food was really impressive. The escargot especially. The only culinary letdown was the duck crêpe: way too salty. But it made the sorbet more enjoyable. The table wobbled pretty severely and I almost lost my wineglass twice. Next was watermelon-mache salad with toasted pumpkin seeds, fromage blanc, and shallot-sherry vinaigrette, appealing and delicious, light but rich. Well-paired with slightly oakey Kokomo sauv blanc. Next was a modest grilled albacore steak served over heirloom tomato concasse, olive-poached potatoes and bacon-grain mustard vinaigrette. Fish perfectly cooked, and potatoes tender. Flavors blended delightfully and were well matched by Domaine du Tariquet. Dessert was a sweet crepe with brown sugar-rum poached peaches and whipped cream, plus French press decaf. Overall, a superb variety of flavors producing a light but satisfying summer meal.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.

An example, three of us had completely finished our salads and one was still working. A server, not ours, came to the one still eating and asked to take his plate. When he declined, she walked away, leaving three empty plates on the table. It was a long wait between courses and at the end, with empty plates and cash lying on the table, we had to work hard to get someone's attention and ask if we could please leave...and there were only about 4 tables with people at the time, so they weren't all that busy. So we tried it the next week (the prix-fixe menu is only available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). We started with a shot of heirloom tomato soup, which was so good that we wished for more. The peach and greens salad was good, but the peaches were not very flavorful and the dressing seemed a little heavy. The third course was a mixture of pork belly and prawns, each very well-prepared and tasty, but I am not sure that they are a natural pairing. The caramel crepe for desert was lovely. We had the wine pairing and both wines were interesting and went well with the food. All in all, it was very good and we are going back for more.Special Features:

If you stick to a dinner crepe, the prices are quite modest. If you go for their entrees, they double ($22-28) but are definitely worth it for the taste experience. The menu features authentic Breton French cuisine highlighted with a generous tinge of California creativity and underpinned by local Sonoma farm-to-table sourcing. Chef/owner Brian Anderson and his French-born wife, Francoise, are the perfect restaurateur couple. They bring together their wonderful culinary backgrounds and they also radiate a warmth and charm that permeate this classy venue. The menu is terrific, and you may learn a few new words like "daube" and "bourride". The execution is always top-notch. No need to drive to Napa or San Francisco - the region's best French bistro is right here in downtown Santa Rosa.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
