Bistro 234 has been voted the best dinner house by Turlock Journal readers for the past 5 years. Executive Chef LeRoy Walker recently bested other area eateries when he was selected as the top Iron Chef in Modesto, CA. If you have not yet discovered this jewel of a restaurant, now would be the… time. The atmosphere at the Bistro is unique to Turlock. Its vibrant colors, as well as its colorful staff,reflect the vibrant tastes of each carefully crafted dish. Fabulous and filling luncheon entrees include always popular pasta of the day. Homemade soups are created each morning, as well as crisp and clear salads, including Salad Nicoise and Grilled Chicken Thai Salad. Chicken Marsala is a sure thing for regulars, as is the house-ground hamburger, served on our specialty bun. Daily fresh fish is served in a variety of seasonal preparation. "We visit this area to see our son, and we've dined here a few times now, as it is one of the only nice dinner houses in town. We had a very good food server who was friendly and didn't rush us, and timed things well. We shared their scallops wrapped in bacon appetizer. Comes three to the order. They were very tasty and tender. Then we shared a caesar, which had the classic dressing with anchovy and it was also very good. The rib eye with the sauce was juicy, but I would have rather put the sauce on the side as it is a strong but good taste. The serving, split for us was huge. We couldn't finish it all, and we didn't have room for dessert this time. I think we ate too much of their tasty, fresh bread."

"My fiancee went here the other night hoping for a nice dining experience. We had made reservations expecting a regular table. What we got was a bar table right next to a steel I-beam. It took almost 20 minutes for us to be greeted once we were seated. We placed our drink and appetizer order at that time also to try and expedite our eating process since we had sat there so long. Our appetizer order was quickly forgotten by the waitress. It took another 20 minutes or so for our soup to come to the table, when I asked for our appetizer she quickly hurried and placed the order. The dinner came shortly after. THe food was very good, but according to the waitress it was an off night for service. Only go here if you have patience and time."

"If you're looking for the busiest spot in Turlock, this may be it. It seems to be a gathering place for the people of Turlock, and it is crowded and noisy on a weekend night and you have to fight your way to your table, dodging waitresses with food. The food is what will bring us back. I had a chicken marsala to die for, sweetly done over penne. One wants to lick the bowl, to tell the truth! My husband had the special, a cioppino, that he claimed rivaled the best he had had in Rome. They definitely get the food right at the Bistro!"

"A Lovely Bistro in Turlock.
The Bistro is a delightful place with many choice of entrees, salads, and appetizers. The potatoes au gratin are amazing!!! The portions are extremely large so one needs to be hungry when dining at this place."

"We are huge fans of the Bistro. We have always experienced wonderful food and amazing service. I was, however a little disappointed when I asked the server to bring the birthday boy (my father in laws 70th)the complimentary dessert. She let me know that they stopped doing that. Sometimes its those "little" things that make a difference to the customer. Its that feeling of having someone or someplace go above and beyond what is expected that makes the difference. Will we go back? Of course."
