Diner Reviews
  • "I really enjoyed everything about Bistro 1860. The menu and the serving style are amazing. We really liked that you can order about half of the menu in 3 sizes(tasting, appetizer, and entree) This serving style aloud us to try many dishes. We will be back asap"

  • "I dined at Bistro 1860 for the first time on my birthday with my family this week. The service and food were excellent. We were sitting in the bar/lounge so it was a little loud. I would have preferred to sit in more of a dining room setting. However, it was a Tuesday so they may have been trying to keep the service in the lounge only. Overall, I had a wonderful time, the food and wine I had was perfect and our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly! "

  • "We enjoyed our beverages, the quality of the food, the variety of menu options, and the 3 price points. Our out of town family members were thrilled to experience this."

  • "We met 2 other couples for dinner. Sat on the patio for a drink; can be a bit loud as it is right on the street, but the patio is very nice and service was excellent. When we were seated our waitress was right there and very informative about the menu. Lots of specials not on the menu so you have to pay attention! We ordered several small plates for apps and they were all excellent. Entrees come in 3 portion sizes so you can order what's appropriate for your appetite. Only knock is that 1 entree was 5-10 mins late coming out but they comped that one for us. Definitely will go back."

  • "Once again, the owners and crew of Bistro 1860 made dining at their restaurant something truly noteworthy. From the many entries we sampled to the various wines and, finally, to the parade of unique ice creams, this was an evening that we did not want to end. Few know of the casual upstairs setting which is a shame as it is truly a wonderful environment. Highly recommend Bistro for its approach to dining (different serving sizes), its wonderful cocktails and its terrific wait/bar staff."

  • "The food is always wonderful. I love the à trois niveaux style. I get to try everything I want. Last night at dinner, the waitress suggested a flight of the ice creams they were offering. It was wonderful!"

  • "This was our first time. The lobster hush puppies are a must! We had the arugula salad. It was gorgeous plating all around! The scallop special was delicious, nah husband had the lamb. He loved it. Topped it off with 3 bites of goatcheese lemon icecream. The perfect ending. Great service. We look forward to returning."

  • "I would rank them in the top of Louisville and many other cities. Not your typical menu in a very good way, combined with the ability to pick the size of your order, allows a group of 4 to sample a lot of the wonderful choices."

  • "We chose Bistro 1860 for our Girls' Night Out dinner recently. The food was wonderful with an interesting selection of items which you can order as an appetizer or an entree. This gave us an opportunity to sample several items. The Lobster Hush Puppy was great. Highly recommend the Bolognese and the Filet! And the ice cream is fantastic…save room!! Our server, Chris, was attentive, helpful and very informative! Would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a different venue for a dinner."

  • "--really think this concept of different priced meal options and portions is helpful for anyone who wants to experiment with many choices..have never had a negative experience here and have eaten at Bistro 1860 three times in the past 11 months"

  • "From the moment of our arrival until we left, we were treated to truly outstanding service and exceptional food. This place is a gem! Louisville should be proud of this restaurant."

  • "The service was fantastic. Erica was not only knowledgable, but also attentive and entertaining. The food was excellent and the ambience makes me want to remodel my entire apartment. Thank you for making my birthday dinner an incredible experience."

  • "Love coming to 1860. Absolutely love getting taste and appetizer sized portions because everything on the menu looks fantastic."

  • "Our server was the best. He went along with us slowing the meal down and taking our time. Tolerant of the ladies lengthy decision to a bottle of wine. The food was "dance in your seat" good. We had a couple questions about the food and the Chef made rounds to the tables explaining things. The taco's were the surprise hit of the night; but finding a place with steak tartare was a close second. The vegetables were cooked with imagination instead of just steamed. Plenty of food."

  • "My husband and I visited the restaurant for 502 Restaurant Week. Even though the event was almost over, our server was not that familiar with the menu for the event. My husband was greatly disappointed that one of the two salads on the tasting menu was not available. The server did not provide any other options. Other than that, the server was very friendly and recommeded great wine choices. The food was delicious. The noise level did start to peak around 7pm, which mildly affected our romantic dinner."

  • "This our second time to Bistro 1860 and each has been wonderful. The dining concept is a little different than most restaurants. Portions are divided between small, medium and large and priced accordingly. So if you want a BBQ rib for an appetizer or an entrée the choice is yours. We usually graze and try multiple small dishes. Some are small like one lobster hush puppy and some small dishes are quite large for a small. Just ask your server. They are always willing to help. With a group it is quite fun to try different things and share a bite or two of each item. As far as price point, we each had one drink, ate until we full, split a desert and walked out for $120 including tip."

  • "Second visit was as good as the first. I love the variable size choice. The medium rack was wonderful two nice size morsels."

  • "The food was outstanding, along with our waiter who was a very cool guy who had a great time with us and I assume himself as well. I was impressed by how friendly the waiter was, and the rest of the staff. The only thing that could have been better would be if our drinks could have been refilled faster."

  • "This was the second time I've been to this restaurant and I excited to have my expectations exceeded. I love the way their menu is set up, it allows you to try foods without having to pay for a full portion. I tried sweetbreads and found it to be a fantastic new dish that I love. Everything was superb and the staff was incredibly accommodating and kind. The chef even came out at one point to check on the tables. Over all a great place that I highly recommend!"

  • "We had heard good things...but never could we have never have anticipate just how good this place was. I love that they offer various potion sizes for everything on the menu. We had a a great experience and will be back!"

  • "There's no disputing the quality of the food, but the prices are more appropriate for Paris than Louisville. They have multiple prices for each entree based on portion size, which is a great idea, but the reasonably priced portions are extremely small. On the positive side, the food was Paris level quality as well. I recommend this place, but it is pricey."

  • "We were saddened when L&N Wine Bar closed at this location a while back, but absolutely delighted to find this gem in its place. Our server was great for recommendations and his knowledge of menu items. The restaurant interior was very nice, with a mix of old brick walls and new. The food was fabulous! Most items come in 3 sizes so that you can have them as an appetizer, small or full plate. We had the beets, pear/arugula salad, bolognese, filet of beef, brussel sprouts and corn pudding. Great choice of bourbons available, and highly recommend the butter pecan old-fashioned. Will definetly return!"

  • "Extremely inventive and wide ranging menu combined with three portion options (Taste, Hors d'oeuvre or Entre) on almost every dish. Foodies paradise where you can afford to taste a dozen dishes."

  • "We've been to Bistro 1860 a number of times, but we're disappointed. Our server was the main cause. She did not explain 2 of the dishes that were served to us; she just sat them down and left. We had no clue what was on our plate. She also seemed unpolished and lazy; we could hear the server next to us doing a wonderful job, explaining the dishes, warning his table about the candied jalapeño; he just had enthusiasm. We also were disappointed in the salmon dish we received. We've had it at least 3 other times and loved it. The presentation and food overall looks like it has changed. The lobster hush puppies, creek stone filet and pork tacos were excellent. Just wanted to make you aware of the service. Thanks for your time."

  • "This was my second visit to the restaurant. Luckily we were not in a hurry because the waiter was a little scatter brained. Our smoked salmon app was amazing! The brussel sprouts were also wonderful, but my scallops were way over cooked. Bistro 1860 will stay on my new list of favorite places"

  • "we had a great time at bistro 1860 altho the table was too tight for 4 people. we felt very squished at the banquette and the two men across from us had shouldner's touching. a little too close for comfort even for family.. we had to take the small vase off the table to make room for the dishes that came out.. we love that their are 3 different sizes for most of the food. and the food is really really good. also hannah, our waitress was excellent in explaining the complicated menu and serving us."

  • "We have gone to Bistro 1860 three times since in opened under new management and name - was L&N Wine Bar. Each time we have had a very nice experience - good food, good service and a nice environment. It is somewhat expensive, but not unreasonable."

  • "We were headed to a friend's art exhibit at the Mellwood Arts Center on a Friday night with business partners and wanted a place to have a bit of a business meeting close to our ultimate destination. Bistro 1860 fit the bill, although we were unfamiliar with the menu, not having been there in at least a decade. The menu has some interesting items and the food is certainly tasty and well presented. The total bill, including 3 glasses of wine and no dessert was about $150, including tip. The food, ounce for ounce, is very expensive. For example, they tout the lobster hush puppies, which sell, I believe for $6 a piece. We're talking standard meatball sized appetizers,, and the presence of actual lobster meat was almost imperceptible."

  • "The waitstaff seems amateurish. Lauren, ( our server) kept forgetting about my wife and I. She wasn't terrible just couldn't focus. I think some FOH training could be in order. All food was presented beautifully and tasted phenomenal."
