  • "6 of us booked ahead and managed to score the private room (without having requested it). Great service, very friendly. Bar had a good number of people, great atmostphere. Live music, which wasn't too over-bearing (but may have gotten in the way of conversation had we not been in the room we were in). Food - very good. Tried a mix of specials and regular menu items. Scallops with risotto, chicken friench, eggplant enchiladas, seafood mozambique ... not a disappointed one among us. We've been here a number of times -- just as a couple, or with friends -- we've never been disappointed."

  • "This is a great place to dine, and it moves up a notch because of the great jazz which accompanies dinner. The combo was on the upper level and we were in the dining room on the bar level and could hear everything. Bob Sneider Trio was playing and they were excellent. The waitress was very personable and did an excellent job making recommendations from the menu. Both of our dinners were delicious. She suggested we move to the upper level for coffee and deserts so we were able to see the combo in action. Good food, attentive staff, priced right, throw in the jazz on top of that... I'll return for another wonderful evening."

  • "First time at Bistro 135 and won't be my last. Unexpected warmth, elegance, and fun. Cozy bar with the dining tables separate from the bar which I like. The menu is not large but something for everyone's tastes. You could make a meal out of their appetizers. I had the seafood bisque which was a special that night and it had big chunks of lobster which usually you don't see in seafood soups. My main course was their Sea Bass and it was cooked perfectly, melted in my mouth. Fun to sit and eat with a nice quartet playing live music. My only suggestion is perhaps to turn down the amps some as our table was close and at times was difficult to have conversations but very much enjoyed the group. I will definitely be back."

  • "Overall good first impression. Waitress was outstanding and food was good. Bread removed from table before we were finished, almost made us feel a little rushed. Wine list is good but would like to see more selections available by the glass. One bartender who seemed new and a little overwhelmed forgot my wine, but once he realized he forgot my order, he didn't hesitate to say that glass was "on him" Excellent show of service."

  • "Worth the trip. Not hard to get to,but you need to know it is there to find it. Live jazz band during dinner made a great atmosphere, however it was to loud need upstairs near the band. We moved downstairs and the sound level was much better for conversation around dinner. Great wine list, pleasant staff and good food. We had the dates for an appetizer and our dinners included the scallops, the fillet and the fish of the day. All very good and well presented. Priced reasonably considering there was a live band. About $65 per person with two bottles of wine, appetizer, dinners and tip included."

The waitress was so aware of the problems of the air (some times cold)blowing up that while being seated, asked if we wanted a menu to block the vent. My wife used her purse, and we still had a great meal as usual."

  • "Known for its great food and hand crafted cocktails, stick to regular menu when ordering and skip the specials. My fiance had the Black Bass from the regular menu. Delicious and cook to perfection, it was lightly crusted, juicy, flaky, flavorful fish, plated neatly on top of garlic massed potatoes. However the specials menu is risky. I was surprisingly disappointed with my Monk fish dish from the specials menu. It was unappealing to look at, and scanty mushy chunks of fish were mixed in with a spinach sauce. Also, It lacked color, texture and taste. However, my server was great and he insisted that I left satisfied and offered me another entree of my choice. Overall, my dining experience ended well."

  • "I've been to Bistro a number of times in 2013. I've come back because the food and service was excellent and have recommended and taken colleagues as well. This past experience was not even close. Service was okay. We needed to ask for bread after sitting for 20 minutes or so. The grilled calamari was okay. My guest order the beet salad which was less than desirable; the beets were hard and not sweet at all.. I ordered the bass which was appetizing; the string beans were waxy and very hard... My guest had the scallops which she thought were okay, some issue with the string beans. I do enjoy your establishment especially during the warmer months and love the ambiance on the patio."

  • "The bar area is noisy, however, the dining section that we were seated in provided sufficient shielding from the bar din. We could easily hear the music and each other talk. The food was very good. My trout was the special and it was perfect, salad, vegetables all nicely done. The only reason we gave them 4 instead of 5 stars was that my husbands steak was not medium as he had asked. He did not send it back because he said it was still tender and tasty. Side note: I need to be gluten-free, the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and helpful. This is a great place to go for fresh, well-prepared food with an entertaining jazz accompaniment ."

The sea bass was fishy tasting ...obviously not really fresh. Scallops were good, but the risotto was over cooked. Salads were good. Our waitress was wonderful! If the food improved, it would have been a great dining experience."

  • "After reading the reviews we were expecting an outstanding meal-however while the food was ok we were a little disappointed- the steak was overcooked and not very flavorful. The other entree-halibut with lobster -was ok but again not outstanding. Liked the atmosphere and the guitar music. The service was good. We eat out frequently and usually give a restaurant 2 chances to impress us.However, with the bill at over $100 ( only 1 drink each and no extras) I'm not sure if we'll return."

  • "Love this restaurant tucked away in East Rochester. Always very good food but a little pricey. Have never had anything but great service!! The live music is great but sometimes a little loud for conversation. We usually ask for one of the bistro tables in the bar by the fireplace so we are in the middle of all the action - which is why the music is loud since the are right above us. If we wanted quiet we could ask for a table in another room."

If you are like us and typically can't finish your meal, be sure to ask they put everything left on your plate in your to-go box or you'll be disappointed the next day when you open it for lunch and have less than you expected."

I think there is enough variety to suit many tastes. Service was outstanding. I will come back to this restaurant in the near future. I would be a great place to bring out of town guests too."

  • "I was not "wowed" as I had hoped to be but had a nice time and meal on a Friday night. The grilled calamari was very nice. The beet salad was excellent. The sea bass and duck were very nicely done and plated. The chef needs to learn how to cook scallops and when 2 parties order the same plate they should never be served different. They were out of monk fish hopefully because it was that darn good. Servicer Troy was professional but nothing special or friendly. Check your bill carefully! Was charged 2 different prices for the same dish, overcharged on the other two dishes. DId not catch until after tipping 20%. I would not go out of my way to go back since there are equal or better choices in the downtown dining district."

  • "I found this place by searching for things to do in Rochester with live music. Jazz is one of our favorite things. The place is beautiful, inviting and cozy for a couple. We ordered the Filet and it was delicious, the soup was great too. When we were getting ready to leave, we went to the bar to get change and the owner was there. He was very nice and very interested in our opinion. He showed us the event calendar and was proud of all the acts lined up for the month of December. My overall experience was positive and I would totally recommend this place."
