Diner Reviews
  • "We always have a great time at the Bistro. The food is good and the service is outstanding!"

  • "We've been to this restaurant many times over the years and always loved it. Went again on Friday night with friends, but had a different experience. Service was very slow (hostess never told server we had been seated). Once ordered, drinks took a long time because the bar ran out of glasses (!). And the menu only included 3 gluten free items, 2 of which I had no interest in. So I had the eggplant enchiladas which were mediocre, at best. When I asked, the server admitted that there was new management, and the long-time chef was on his way out, being replaced by the #2 guy. So, buyer beware. I'd hate to see this once great restaurant go downhill, but time will tell."

  • "Great food, dreamy music on a lovely summer's eve."

  • "This was our third time at Bistro 135 and it was very disappointing. It has been about a year since we last went and I am not sure if they changed the chef but the food was definitely not the same calibre. It was fairly bland and tasteless. Service was good but the music was a little too overpowering for a 7PM dinner reservation. I love good jazz but while you are eating it should be more background music than a 10PM loud, live show."

  • "The a la carte dinner salad is very small and not unique in any way.The entree (I had the pistachio crusted, lemon beurre blanc sea bass with garlic mashed potatoes) was tasteless. The pistachios were barely there and it had too mild a flavor. The mashed potatoes were delicious as were the 3 spears of asparagus. It was $30 and overpriced. For desert, we shared pastry which encased fruit. It was supposed to be hot (and wasn't) and crisp (it was undercooked). It was supposed to have vanilla ice cream and had barely a teaspoon. We did not eat it as it was raw and the waitress asked if it was ok and we told her no. She did not offer to remove it from the bill ($8). If the prices were lower I might consider trying it again."

  • "The restaurant ambiance (jazz inside - lovely courtyard outside) was better than the food. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but it just wasn't great. For the price and what I expected, I was disappointed. Scallops weren't quite crispy enough on the outside, salad tomatoes were mushy, and fries were too salty on the steak. If it weren't so expensive, I would go back. But I expected much more at that price. Service was lovely and very attentive."

  • "I have had dinner at Bistro 135 many times and always was impressed with the quality of the food. This time, however, I was surprised to find the food average at best. The chicken french was bland and the seafood "ZUPPA" not as flavorful as i would have expected."

  • "This is an absolute hidden gem in East Rochester and the greater Rochester area! The food is fantastic with specials that are excellent! We loved the music (Andy Calabrese trio with Dave Zaskowda and Chet Casella) and stayed all evening to enjoy it. It is a great place to enjoy live jazz music every night! Our waitress Cara took good care of us and paced our meal to accommodate our requests. We love this place and plan to return again."

  • "First time @ Bistro 135, and we went on recommendations from several other people, and the experience did not disappoint, as we celebrated our 43rd anniversary. The food was outstanding, the service very attentive, and the music was quite a treat."

  • "The bartender certainly could use a crash course in customer service (Chris ) unattentive when we arrived - never did get served at the bar. After dinner he didn't know what a b&b was, our sever found the bottle of liquor. Other than the shoddy bar service, the food was outstanding as was our dining room wait staff."

  • "Took a large business group here for dinner. The outside of the restaurant is simple, but the inside is modern but warm. The special cocktails were fun and inventive (the infuse some of their own liquors) and the food was very good. The jazz duo that was playing that evening was also good and created nice background, dinner music. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here."

  • "We returned to this restaurant after a 2-year hiatus and found it better than ever. Great jazz trio, lots of people chatting at the bar, and good smells wafting through. All very inviting -- made you feel like you want to be there and be a part of what's going on. The food was excellent, and this may just be my new favorite Rochester restaurant. Calamari appetizer was crispy and delicious, and the Buffalo mozzarella appetizer was a wonderful new experience. I tasted one bite of my lobster risotto and I announced to the table "I'm coming back to have more of this incredible dish!""

  • "For the price the portions were small, 4 scallops, a spoonful of risotto and 4 asparagus. The calamari was excellent! The music was good! Wish we had more lobster in the lobster risotto. Dessert was good!"

  • "Bistro 135 was a great evening out. It has a couple of dining rooms on different levels providing a quieter, more intimate dining experience. The music, a three pice combo, was excellent the evening we were there. Our wait person was personable and very sensitive to our "we are not in a hurry request". She carefully wrote the steak order so that she could share with the chef how I wanted it cook. The menu itself may have been a little brief. My husband who eats most foods ended up having a salad and and an app rather than an entree. But he enjoyed that. "

  • "This was my second time at Bistro 135. They are a little on the pricey side but worth it for a special occasion. I enjoy the live music and friendly service. I am pretty picky but I think they do a fantastic job in the kitchen. The first time I ate here I got the steak feature for my entre and had no complaints. The second time, I got the duck feature and even though it was prepared well I didn't care for it too much. It was paired with a sweet potato puree and a blood orange sauce. The plate as a whole was just too sweet for my taste and I would have preferred a savory side considering how sweet the blood orange sauce was. The appetizers were delicious both times. "

  • "Disappointed in the service. Ordered two very simple drinks, wine and scotch on the rocks. Poured the wine and forgot what the second drink was that I requested. Waitress was sweet and attractive. Music was amazing. The pricing is upscale not so much the service. Slightly disappointed. "

  • "We sat in the wine room with a small graduation party. Everything was great, but the band overhead made it very difficult to hear each other and the drum beat occasionally came right through to our chairs. The food and service were very good, and the music also sounded great! The bar was packed with 50-somethings until about 7:30pm. It would have been a wonderful evening; I just wish the management had warned us about the noise in the room we chose. It made for a disappointing evening. That said, if you want a good bar, good food and some fun local music, give it a try!"

  • "Great food, great drinks and great atmosphere. The food was perfectly cooked to our liking (I highly recommend the Steak and Frites and the Chicken French). The drinks were well priced and of good variety (we especially enjoyed the selection of whiskeys and bourbons). The lights were kept dimmed with candles at the tables and there was live music (a talented John Legendesque singer the night we went, which we felt really added something special). All in all, for us it made for a very romantic, memorable night. "

  • "This was our first visit here. We came to hear Katie Ernst and her group play and they were great! The food and service were excellent. Although the restaurant was busy, we were seated on time and the food was served efficiently. We would definitely go back."

  • "Bistro 135 has good jazz at least 6 days a week. Combine that with excellent food, wine and service, and the restaurant is a rare find. I wish we lived closer."

  • "Went there to hear a well-known jazz singer, Katie Ernst. It is a great spot to dine while listening to music. A bit loud, but that is what you'd expect. The food, while not inspired, was very good and well worth another trip. "

  • "We had such a great time, great drinks, good music and fantastic food. My boyfriend has decided it is going to be "our" place to go when we go out!"

  • "Our server, Taylor, was especially good. I had the coffee rubbed steak with blue cheese reduction, got some extra blue cheese sauce (which I needed) at no extra charge. Enjoyed my own wine, since it was Thursday. Had a nice corner table, as I had requested. Good ambience/lighting. It was my first visit but I'll be back on a Thursday!"

  • "I heard about Bistro 135 on the radio and got curious especially because they had jazz bands playing 6 nights a week. I can say it was a lovely place, perfect for a romantic dinner. The band was great, they played generally classic pieces with a warm vibe and it was exceptionally enjoyable. The food was very good. I got the duck and was very happy with it, crispy skin, yet very moist, over a creamy turnip and potato pure. Our server, Daniela, was outstanding, friendly, relaxed, great sense of humor and never missed a beat. I have tried a few restaurants in the area and Bistro 135 is at the top of my list. "
