Bistro 101 at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts offers gourmet cuisine, in an elegant setting, prepared by the next generation of talented cooks. Our marina-view restaurant serves lunch and dinner, Monday to Friday. Choose from a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts prepared by our talented Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts students under the watchful eye of our European-trained chef instructors.

Monday through Thursday - Join us for 'Market Menus' and enjoy a three-course fixed priced menu with choice of appetizer, entree and dessert for just $20 for lunch and $26 for dinner per person.

Fridays - Feast on our 'West Coast Buffet'. Lunch is $22 and Dinner is $33 per person.

The student servers are usually dry competent and eager to please, and willing to answer all questions about the food, their courses and their school experience. They are also well supervised to ensure a high standard of service. We also love the windows that let us watch the student preparing food in the three kitchens. It is much interesting than just a lunch...and you never feel rushed."

  • "We went for the 3-course lunch on a Wednesday. It was great that they have free parking so that we could save on the parking fee but just need to remember to provide your license plate number at the counter. We were seated at a small table by the window, overseeing the yachts parked at Granville Island. There were a couple of items to choose from for each course. We were nicely surprised by a petite bonus treat at the beginning - small puffs filled with tuna tartare. For appetizers, we had eggplants with lamb sausage and seafood chowder. The chowder was tomato-based instead of cream based, and it also had a lot of nice flavors to it. I loved the roasted duck breast for entrée. The deconstructed tiramisu dessert was very tasty too."

  • "Three course lunch for $20, who can complain? Menu changes every month, according to seasonal ingredients. Portions are generous, and food tastes very good. Complimentary bread was fresh and soft (loved the mini cornbread!!), pea soup was thick and creamy, salmon was perfectly cooked, chicken breast was well seasoned. Ceviche was a little too heavy with the acid, and desserts were good but didnt blow us away. Seating is spacious and comfortable. Service is by the school's students so keep in mind they are still in training. Nonetheless, they are extremely polite and willing to help. Interior is very sleek, classy, and clean. Looking forward to coming back soon!"

  • "This was my first time at Bistro 101, and my boyfriend and I first discovered it just from passing by and seeing the sign. They basically take reservations only, so those looking to go should book ahead. I think I booked mine a good week ahead and only had 1 time slot to choose from. The service was friendly, but since it's a school then there were times they didn't appear to know what they were doing. I had asked a question regarding the menu and my server was apparently a pastry chef so she didn't know. The food was good, I have nothing bad to say, but I gave it a 3 because I wouldn't call it exceptional. There were a couple of items I did really enjoy though. Overall worth the time to check out."

  • "Our student Shannon, was delightful. Very pleasant & responsive without being intrusive. She was concerned about our reaction to each dish & apologized for taking a bit longer - we didn't feel it was as we were celebrating a friend's birthday and enjoyed the relaxed and leisurely atmosphere. No complaints other than the pea soup while wonderful flavour was not hot enough and Shannon immediately said she would let the kitchen know for future - we had chosen not to wait for Shannon to return to send it back and didn't tell her until after so was our own fault for not remarking earlier. The presentation of all 4 lunches was very attractive and all agreed excellent value. Really plan to return, soon. Thanks to all who prepared and served."

  • "This was truly one of the best meals we've had in the Vancouver area. Just walking in to be greeted by the delightful maitre d' set us up for a fantastic experience. The setting was elegant Vancouver, the tables spaced far enough apart that we were barely aware of the other diners. We were presented with edible works of art, that tasted delicious. Each of us ordered something different, all of the highest caliber. And the desserts -- ooh, the desserts! The student chefs really do themselves proud, and their teachers are to be truly commended on their fine efforts with these dedicated and enthusiastic young people."

Looking out the picture windows you have a wonderful view of Granville Island marina full of gorgeous yachts and sail boats tied up to the docks with lights twinkling across the water. Farther back you see the entrance to Granville Island and the robust footings of the Burrard Street Bridge that towers above you. Looking inward through the plate glass windows you look upon students hard at work honing their culinary talents in Bistro101 kitchen classrooms. A memorable culinary delight amongst a city of many. I will be back."

  • "Bistro 101 has hints of 101, but mostly this is post graduate level cooking. The braised lamb shanks were a large, melt in your mouth burst of flavour. The venison (a special for the evening) was superb. The appetizers - a seared prawn special and the scallops - were good, though not outstanding. Desserts - Mocha Verrine for most of us and Black Forrest Cake - were interesting. The Verrine was served in a wide water glass, which meant reaching a long way down to scoop it out. Not a serious problem, just a curious choice for a serving dish. The Black Forrest Cake was superb and nicely served. We'd certainly go back, particularly when the days are longer and the view over the marina will be a real draw."

There are hit and misses, but is expected given the food is prepared by students, who also are servers themselves. Obviously they are not professionally trained in the service area, but they are still courteous. Hope they could receive more training in serving the clientele before hitting the floor. Best dishes are - Appetizer: Oyster Trio Main: Lobster or Tenderloin Dessert: Flourless Black Forest Cake. Overall, a great deal, and will go back there for lunch."

  • "I don't think that I'll ever go back to this restaurant. Even for dine-out standards, it was pretty bad. Service was alright, could've been better since it took a long time before we saw the server walk by and as you know, the restaurant is pretty small too but they were too busy getting ready for tomorrows lunch/dinner service. Food was horrendous, we ordered the DOV menu and an appetizer that wasn't on the DOV menu and everything came out bland, tasteless and heavily under-seasoned. We had to ask for the salt and pepper shakers just so we can finish our meal. It was very very bland. Desserts were bad as well. We tried all 3 desserts and the only one that was decent was the cheesecake."
