  • "On Jul 24, we booked Bistro 101 for my birthday @6.30.............about 7.15 class had special celebration; curtains were pulled the noise level was very very loud. I love your restaurant and go there several times a month, however, this was a very bad experience. If you are going to do an inhouse for staff/students, please do not take reservations near that time. It ruined my birthday celebration!!! Usually when I take someone for their birthday there is a special dessert this was not the case, it was an unfortunate experience for an otherwise fine restaurant."

  • "The food was wonderful - salmon, moist and topped with a creamy Hollandaise; lamb, juicy, tender and served with an amazingly tasy jus. Vegetables and accompaniments were lightly cooked, well-chosen and tasty. Seasoning was delicate and allowed the true flavour of the food to show through. Dessert was divine. Orange pistachio pave and chocolate roulade were both rich, beautiful and decadent. Another memorable meal!"

  • "We have been there four times before and have always enjoyed it thoroughly. The same goes for this time unfortunately, it was the waiters second day and he forgot everything (cutlery, taking away plates, bringing coffee, checking back). He was so nervous that he couldn't even smile, and that made it uncomfortable. The saving grace was a gentleman who was obviously a senior staff member at the Bistro who kept on checking on us half way through and was charming and funny and made our day! I guess you have to realize that it is a Culinary School and staff is learning. We will definitely go back again!!!"

  • "Bistro 101 was a delight. The service was quite good - not perfect, perhaps - but this is a culinary school and many are clearly "in training." What was especially noteworthy for us, though, was the food. The presentation was stunning and the flavours were amazing. We simply savoured every single bite. For a $20 three course lunch this was a huge value. And this was perhaps the best meal we have ever had in many years of dining out in Vancouver. Reservations are a must - they turned away all "walk-ins" on the day we were there. Easy enough to reserve on Open Table. We will be back and have probably just become "regulars." Thanks to all at Bistro 101 for a superb lunch!"

  • "What can our new chefs of the world create for us? I learn that each visit to a culinary school, whether it us Bend, Oregon or here in Vancouver BC. We know the ingredients the cooks have to choose from, but the minds at a culinary school are willing to explore just a bit more than at most every other restaurant. This visit, our waiter, who is also a student gave a special recommendation for a desert that was available. And was he on target! Oh. And each of the other courses were great also."

  • " We come here at least twice a year and love their menus that change monthly. Both the service and food are excellent and a meal at Bistro101 is always a treat. When the plates are placed in front of you they are "a work of art"."

  • "Truly the best bread basket EVER. Of the six different dishes that we ate only the asperagas was well cooked but dull, all else was A+, pork cheek with coconut kaffir appy just fantastic. Half price wine bottles on wed, amazing white blend out of Cowichan Valley unfortunately not at BC liqour stores, we checked! We will definately return."

  • "With a small but interesting menu, the bistro gives guests the chance to eat a meal created and prepared by students. The food is good and the presentation is excellent; you might have little hiccups in the service but these are minor and besides, how else are they to learn? Wines are half price on Wednesdays so the meal is excellent value for your money."

  • "My friend and I decide to dine at Bistro 101 to support the local new talent from the Culinary School. The food exceeded our expectations. The presentation was fantastic. I will make this my go to restaurant to bring guests from out of town as the perfect ending to an afternoon in Granville Island."

  • "I really liked the opportunity to order a flight of wines as offered on the menu. All courses were excellent and elegantly presented, although I found the serving sizes somewhat small. I would definitely return."

  • "The menu, food and service were outstanding. The only comment is that the sweet waiter was hard to understand. I would highly recommend this for a different outing. I am returning in August with a group of 8 ladies for another delectable treat!!!"

  • "This is a great place to dine and also a nice break from the generally overpriced fare in many Vancouver restaurants. Wednesdays are even better when you can enjoy a nice wine without spending a small fortune. We all enjoyed each of our courses and will definitely be back again."

  • "I walked in the door and the hostess took one looked at me and said "washroom?", no greeting or welcome. I was all dressed up, with makeup on so it's not like I looked like a homeless person. NOT very helpful. I was waiting for my party to join me and the server left me sitting at my table, unattended, for 10 minutes. She did not even look my way and was serving the table right beside me."

  • "The presentation of each course was excellent. Each course was something different and felt that really got a taste at a fancy restaurant. It was also cool to be able to watch the chefs at work via the tv screen. Service was great. Portions could have been a bit larger. I had a glass of wine but felt too expensive. Overall very nice experience. Would defintely go back."

  • "This up-scale training site provides a lovely location, with free parking at Granville Island's entrance. It will always depend on what the students are working on in Their training, so service can vary, but they do try to be tops. The portions for the main course are tiny, served on huge plates, so they fill up the space with garnish or swirls. I'd rather see more food. Reservations are pretty essential, as there is only one seating per table each day. Also they aren't open on weekends. Nice place to bring out of town visitors."

  • "Great place to try out different kinds of food. Also, it would be nice if there's more accurate labeling of the appetizers and desserts, just so we know what exactly we're eating."

  • "We always enjoy returning to this restaurant, for any occasions, romantic, birthdays, business and with friends. We have never been disappointed. Food is always innovative, never the same and excellent, cooked by students, the service is also courteous and welcoming, with a nice touch of appetizers before your meal and the view of Granville Island Marina is fantastic. Wednesdays the wine is half price, which is a good idea. You can see the kitchens from the dining area, and the students hard at work. The desserts are the best I have ever eaten! especially chocolate ones. I still haven't had the pleasure of tasting their seafood buffet on Fridays, it's always booked well ahead of time. A real popular event. Can't wait to go back."

  • "We have friends in town so we made a reservation for lunch through Open Table. Although we had reservation for 4, they were able to make last minute arrangement to accommodate additional guests. with a smile. Food was beyond expectation and the dessert were to die for. Though the servers are students in training, they are very cheerful and helpful. We definitely will recommend this place to anyone who appreciate good food, and to support this culinary school."

  • "We have been to Bistro 101 several times, mostly for special occasions. We are never disappointed with the food or the service. It feels really nice to support the students who are learning the trade. It is apparent that these students take their learning and application of the restaurant business seriously. They want to do their best. This applies to all of them from the servers to those in the kitchen. The food is always outstanding for such value. The ambiance certainly matches the food and service. What a great location. We will always return to Bistro 101."

  • "We have visited Bistro 101 previously and enjoyed superb service and food quality. Perhaps it was because it was the beginning of the students term, but the overall quality of food and service were not what we expected, based on prior experience. Our server said we were only the 3rd table he had served & was nervous. We were disappointed, but will try this restaurant in the future, but will be sure that it is later in the student term, when they have gained more experience in the kitchen & service staff."

  • "I always think it is difficult to do a good buffet and then there's the have to try everything issue:). The buffet was well presented on small platters, with a few absolutely stunning dishes like the scallops and the truffles. The table all agreed that the lamb was amazing and the halibut was too fishy for some reason. It's a pleasure watching the students working in their stations and meeting them as they also serve. Slightly more hectic since it's a buffet with folks up and down, but generally a very relaxed atmosphere so I love the set menus evenings best, but both are totally enjoyable! "

  • "Our second experience of dinner at Bistro 101 was just as good, if not better, than the first. The modest menu provides plenty of choice, and we find the quality of the food to be of a very high standard across the board."

  • "The bread was on the salty side. My trout was way overcooked and too salty. The asparagus was black for cooking it on too high heat & the tidbits of red pepper was overcooked and mushy. Dessert was delicious .. service was excellent as always. Chefs need to keep an "eye" on the stove & oven so food does not overcook "
