Bistro 101 at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts offers gourmet cuisine, in an elegant setting, prepared by the next generation of talented cooks. Our marina-view restaurant serves lunch and dinner, Monday to Friday. Choose from a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts prepared by our talented Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts students under the watchful eye of our European-trained chef instructors.

Monday through Thursday - Join us for 'Market Menus' and enjoy a three-course fixed priced menu with choice of appetizer, entree and dessert for just $20 for lunch and $26 for dinner per person.

Fridays - Feast on our 'West Coast Buffet'. Lunch is $22 and Dinner is $33 per person.

  • "I walked in the door and the hostess took one looked at me and said "washroom?", no greeting or welcome. I was all dressed up, with makeup on so it's not like I looked like a homeless person. NOT very helpful. I was waiting for my party to join me and the server left me sitting at my table, unattended, for 10 minutes. She did not even look my way and was serving the table right beside me."

  • "This up-scale training site provides a lovely location, with free parking at Granville Island's entrance. It will always depend on what the students are working on in Their training, so service can vary, but they do try to be tops. The portions for the main course are tiny, served on huge plates, so they fill up the space with garnish or swirls. I'd rather see more food. Reservations are pretty essential, as there is only one seating per table each day. Also they aren't open on weekends. Nice place to bring out of town visitors."

  • "We always enjoy returning to this restaurant, for any occasions, romantic, birthdays, business and with friends. We have never been disappointed. Food is always innovative, never the same and excellent, cooked by students, the service is also courteous and welcoming, with a nice touch of appetizers before your meal and the view of Granville Island Marina is fantastic. Wednesdays the wine is half price, which is a good idea. You can see the kitchens from the dining area, and the students hard at work. The desserts are the best I have ever eaten! especially chocolate ones. I still haven't had the pleasure of tasting their seafood buffet on Fridays, it's always booked well ahead of time. A real popular event. Can't wait to go back."

Although we had reservation for 4, they were able to make last minute arrangement to accommodate additional guests. with a smile. Food was beyond expectation and the dessert were to die for. Though the servers are students in training, they are very cheerful and helpful. We definitely will recommend this place to anyone who appreciate good food, and to support this culinary school."

It feels really nice to support the students who are learning the trade. It is apparent that these students take their learning and application of the restaurant business seriously. They want to do their best. This applies to all of them from the servers to those in the kitchen. The food is always outstanding for such value. The ambiance certainly matches the food and service. What a great location. We will always return to Bistro 101."

Perhaps it was because it was the beginning of the students term, but the overall quality of food and service were not what we expected, based on prior experience. Our server said we were only the 3rd table he had served & was nervous. We were disappointed, but will try this restaurant in the future, but will be sure that it is later in the student term, when they have gained more experience in the kitchen & service staff."

  • "I always think it is difficult to do a good buffet and then there's the have to try everything issue:). The buffet was well presented on small platters, with a few absolutely stunning dishes like the scallops and the truffles. The table all agreed that the lamb was amazing and the halibut was too fishy for some reason. It's a pleasure watching the students working in their stations and meeting them as they also serve. Slightly more hectic since it's a buffet with folks up and down, but generally a very relaxed atmosphere so I love the set menus evenings best, but both are totally enjoyable! "

Dessert was delicious .. service was excellent as always. Chefs need to keep an "eye" on the stove & oven so food does not overcook "

  • "We were pleasantly surprised as we are new residents of BC and this was our first visit. We brought visitors from Ontario who were also impressed. Not only was our server very knowledgable but so were the rest of the servers. One of the servers didn't know the answer to a question we asked but quickly found out the answer for us. Everyone was very courteous. We liked the service because their service timing was excellent and we didn't feel rushed. Every course for the 4 of us arrived at the same time. Bonus points to all involved."

The menu changes regularly and this is by far the best value for money restaurant that we have experienced in a long time.   • "This is a cooking school, so the food is cooked by people who are learning the craft, and the servers are too. So don't expect everything to be 100% polished. But the price is right and when it works it really really works. We went on a Friday and they had buffet appies and desserts, and a main consisting of beef, duck *and* artic char, all on one plate, $33 per person for what is effectively all-you-can-eat, plus wine. Wine paring is a challenge, but it was good food. Many of the appies were very good, and the desserts too, including a pistachio cake that was absolutely to die for."

Some small details need to be discussed with the students : steak lightly overcooked, table not cleared completely before serving desert, forget to ask for coffee but overall a nice eating out experience. The manager / teacher should let the students do the work and then offer them feedback instead of doing the service himself."
