Diner Reviews
  • "Been here many times and always for business lunch meetings because service and food has always been reliable. Overall their menu is good so you can't go wrong with anyone who has special dietary needs. They have a decent wine selection if you're celebrating something special. So in general, the food and good and service is good, the menu is a bit pricey but worth it to have a reliable place to take a business associate or client to. "

  • "A new chef has been brought in from the outside and, as most creative artists do, has started modifying and/or eliminating long time menu staples. For example, the duck salad has been modified to include duck that has been sauteed rather than fried in its own fat. What this does is to take away the slight crunch from the fried version which compliments the strawberries that are mixed with the salad. Also, the meat on this visit was tough and loaded with fat. It wasn't very good. There are other examples but space doesn't allow enough discussion-those will be addressed in later reviews. The cullotte steak was excellent although a superb mushroom risotto which used to accompany the dish has been replaced by so-so French fries. Great service."

  • "one of the best restaurants around. Great food and service."

  • "I read the reviews and everyone said it was a little weird eating in the atrium of an office building and maybe it is a little, But a few minutes after you sit down, you forget all about that. The service is terrific, they waiter we had knew his wine and made great recommendations on the food. Then the food arrived and the night got even better. Just absolutely terrific! Highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion, it is terrific."

  • "What is a beautiful ambiance with what we remembered as having good food was a disappointment."

  • "Entered bar area for a pre-dinner drink. No one came around after a reasonable time frame so I had to go to the bar and order directly. Bar keep was apologetic. Ordered garlic soup and it was warm at best. Returned soup and got mushroom soup. Much hotter. Rest of meal was very good. Think it was a fluke since last time I went to restaurant everything was excellent."

  • "The ambiance was low key and the staff was very attentive."

  • "Oh no, say it aint so! Only 2 days after proclaiming the jalapeno risotto one of the tastiest and most creative dishes ever, the new chef orders it removed from the menu. BIG MISTAKE!! BRING IT BACK!! Oh well, the rest of the meal was outstanding. Culotte steak with herbed fries and chicken in a mustard tarragon sauce were magnificent. The kitchen was a little bit off with the usually spectacular garlic soup but the soup of the day (cream of asparagus) was excellent. Hopefully, the loss of long time chef Javier will not affect the overall quality of the food."

  • "In my never ending quest to try everything on this menu, I struck it rich with the sesame crusted tuna. Accompanied by mildly spicy Asian style vegetables and an a la carte order of one of the most creative and delicious sides (jalapeno risotto), this was a meal to remember. As always, the service was impeccable."

  • "Always consistent, Bistango is one of our go-to places in the OC. Service is always consistent and the souffles -- chocolate and Grand Mariner can't be beat. Steaks and chops are excellent as are the seafood entrees. Pricey yes, but you get what you pay for."

  • "Bistango offers a menu full of interesting choices, a quiet ambience with live music that does not drown out discussion at your table, and excellent service. I highly recommend the experience."

  • "I asked for a quiet corner table or booth because we were meeting old friends and wanted to catch up after many years. We were seated at the perfect table in the back corner, that was very private. We had excellent service, great appetizers and entrees, and it was a special night. We were at our "A" table for quite a long time, but no one ever rushed us. As we left and walked through the rest of the restaurant, the joint was jumping' with live music, a happening' bar scene and a full restaurant. We had been oblivious to it all, in our quiet corner, which was perfect."

  • "The food at Bistango is always excellent, and with many appealing choices. A fixed price menu at lunch is a very good option as well. Wines by the glass are available in 3 sizes - I wish more restaurants did this."

  • "A very consistent good food place without the soundbox noise that seems to be obligatory in present day OC taurants. Instead nice live music fit for danicng on the floor. Good ,but not spectecular food from a menu that did not chnege for untold years-so you know what you get. Not a place for disco-fans or adventurers, but great for a romantic meal out or ma family celebration."

  • "I booked a reservation for my Husband's Birthday. He didn't know where we were going. He had his heart set on his favorite place, when we arrived at Bistango, He was impressed. The Art, 3 piece band in the back ground added to the ambience. The food presentation was excellent, along with service. Everyone loved their dish. My filet mignon was good, but next time I would try fish. The shrimp mac and cheese was a nice surprise excellent side dish along with the chocolate souffle. All around I knocked it out of the park by choosing Bistango. Everyone had a great time."

  • "Haven't been to Bistango in a while. Food was good, but restaurant can use a little TLC, the chairs in bar area looked old, carpet very worn and red railing throughout old/needs painting (that area looked tattered). The gallery area where I sat was nice. Music a little too loud (in bar) but in Gallery couldn't hear (better for dining/conversing)."

  • "You feel like you are dining in an art gallery! perfect environment for a business lunch. Food was wonderfully presented and tasted even better. Can't wait to return next time we are in Irvine."

  • "The food is good but not great, unfortunately the prices are based on great food. This is a typical corporate culinary offering in Irvine. Big portions, decent service and bland food."

  • "This was our first time at Bistango, and we're looking forward to many more special meals here! Try the onion or garlic soup -- both out of this world!"

  • "Another perfect meal with perfect service by Gary. Kobe beef ravioli, Caprese salad, Chilean sea bass, and the Rack of lamb were nothing short of extraordinary. The only negative note was the fact that this was the last night at the helm for longtime chef Javier. He will be missed but he has a well oiled machine behind him in the kitchen ready to take over."

  • "We dine here often -- maybe a couple of times a month. Always consistent, the lamb chops, filet mignon and the souffles are all wonderful. Service is always good and the wine list fairly extensive. It is close to Newport, so the drive, even if raining is good and valet parking is close. Appetizers are a good size and could be split for some, i.e. the sashimi with cucumber salad."

  • "It was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised by atmosphere - the bar area seemed small relative to the restaurant size and popularity however we found a small table immediately. Service was prompt and friendly, live music catered to Sinatra fans but it was enjoyable watching couples dance and make moves we couldn't execute. Dinner menu had a variety of options from lamb to prefixed menus. Again, service was prompt, with apps delivered timely and dinner followed quickly afterwards. We had a large group and were seated in a booth in back of restaurant that gave us the sense of being out doors even though we were in a covered business park courtyard. Overall, we had an entertaining evening, I'm sure we'd visit in the future"

  • "Terrific restaurant for special occasion The food was amazing The music from the bar was just loud enough that we could still have a conversation and listen to the music."

  • "Perfect setting for a high-end business lunch -- great vibe, enough but not too much noise, and EXCELLENT food and service. For a party of 6, 3 chose the Sea Bass, 1 had the Red Snapper special, and 2 had the Kale Salad! Everyone raved about their selections. Highly recommend the gazpacho if it is offered, too!"

  • "We dined here on Saturday night 2/22. We had a wonderful evening! The drinks, food and service were all top notch. Akrum (sp?), our server, was professional and provided wonderful service. Excellent thick steaks and venison cooked to perfection! Garlic soup, gazpacho are delicious as well as the beat salad. YUM! Great bar scene with music. My family has been dining at Bistango for 20 years. We will continue to dine here and recommend to friends!"

  • "Service was excellent. Water glasses and wine glasses were never empty. Comments from our party of 7 were...great steaks, grilled to perfection, chilean sea bass was flaky and moist, all salads were large portioned - nicely plated and delicious. We enjoyed ourselves and we're not rushed when we spent time over coffee discussing business matters. We will definitely go back."

  • "Another visit and another perfect meal. I always like to try something new and this time the caprese salad (listed as an appetizer) set the tone for a magnificent dining experience. The peppered culotte steak was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by one of the best risotto dishes I've ever had. The risotto contained wheat berries, diced porcini mushrooms and finely chopped shallots. The paella was outstanding and, of course, the garlic soup is to die for. That's the good news. The bad news: the long time chef is leaving soon. Let us hope that the quality will not suffer. This is truly a great restaurant."

  • "We had a great experience with out lunch reservation. Seating was quick, the table was in a very nice spot and the service and food was excellent. It is definitely on our list to return and enjoy the atmosphere and food. We couldn't have asked for more."

  • "Reservation at 9:00 sat down at 10:30 on Valentine's day. Never an explanation or an apology! The food was marginal at best, although our waiter was great! So disappointing that they failed to live up to expectations."

  • "We really liked the ambience, and food, and prices. We liked that there was no special 'Valentines Day menu " with inflated prices like lot of restauants like to do!"

  • "I have been going to Bistango for years and it is still by far my favorite restaurant in Orange County. The food is fabulous and consistently good. It is a beautiful restaurant with great architecture, artwork and live music nightly. The bar is lively at happy hour and they also have a great outdoor patio for the spring and summer months. The service is top notch, they welcome you back by name, and the food never disappoints. I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Most restaurants have special menus with limited selections for Valentine's Day and other special days but Bistango's special menu had a large variety of items for the first and second courses. I only wish they had more than 1 item for dessert; a couple of more selections would have been nice. We were seated promptly and the service was efficient."

  • "I took my friend to lunch there for her birthday. The food was excellent but was disappointed in our waiter. Never came back to offer us more bread or check to see how everything was. He only smiled when he left the check."

  • "First time here and I was pleasantly surprised, I wasn't sure about a restaurant inside a business center. Even though this place has been here for many years it had a modern feel to it, with art hanging on the walls reminiscent of a museum. I ordered the Prix-fixe meal of caesar salad and the filet mignon. The caesar salad was way too vinegary for my taste, but the filet was tender and flavorful and cooked just the way I like it. The service was very attentive and I left the establishment feeling satisfied."

  • "By now you must think I have an ownership interest in this place. I don't--just an appreciation for outstanding food and service. The kobe beef and black truffle ravioli with a light parmesan cream sauce is a masterpiece. The venison loin with poached pear in a balsamic glaze is to die for. You've seen my rave review of the chocolate souffle before so I won't bore you with another one. This is rapidly becoming my favorite restaurant in O.C. Try it, you'll love it!"

  • "Chose this restaurant from list provided by nearby Barclay and glad I did. Everything we had from drinks to food to dessert were excellent. I chose chilean sea bass which was sooo good. I tasted swordfish which was also excellent and the boys had steaks which they gobbled up. We were celebrating a birthday and they surprised us with a swan made from cream puffs. Wonderful experience and cant wait to go back. And great art on the walls which is available for purchase!"
