  • "The Halibut entree was wonderful. Served hot and with wonderful sides."

  • "Very enjoyable experience. We took a client and we all agreed that it was the best meal from start to finish that we had in Vancouver."

  • "While researching a visit to Vancouver, my wife chose Bishop's for her birthday dinner. We were definitely not disappointed; we both had the Halibut for entres and it was awesome. The atmosphere was great and it was apparent that it was a favourite of local diners too. We would recommend Bishop's to any one visiting Vancouver or looking for a local gem! James S."

  • "wonderful romantic evening…best dining experience in a long time..."

  • "Bishop's sets the standard for service in Vancouver. The atmosphere is always welcoming and no matter how crowded, you'll never have to overwork your voice to have a conversation with people at your table. The dishes are classic, clean, and always a feast for the eyes. The bread selection and specialty butter is difficult to resist. The menu changes seasonally and having dined 3 times during the winter, every dish surpassed expectation, from perfectly prepared arctic char, to rack of lamb. Portions are generous, and any time soup is on the menu, prepare yourself for silky textures and wonderful flavours. Accompaniments to main dishes garner as much attention to detail as the mains. Dinner is always special."

  • "Great food. Traditional atmosphere. Extremely expensive."

  • "We were a party of four celebrating two birthdays. We knew that that Bishops had high standards and we had not come for over ten years. As my husband and were dining with our son and his fiancé who are real foodies, we were concerned the fare would be too conservative for them. The octopus appetizer was very delicate and the potato chips were to die for. Two of us enjoyed the elk with the subtlety of flavour. My halibut was very fresh and well prepared. The chocolate dessert was amazing. It was a very special evening and we will return more often as we have been distracted by other nouveau cuisine restaurants that opened up through the years. Bishops continues to refine and raise its standards."

  • "Bishop's restaurant is always remarkable. There is never anything disappointing in the food or service. It continues to be one of the two or three best restaurants in Canada and indeed the world. One doesn't necessarily go to this restaurant to be "blown away" by some faddish cooking technique or ingredient but just to have a dependable, unique, and delicious and satisfying meal."

  • "Fabulous meal. Have been here many times and choose it for special occasions as it is consistently outstanding in terms of food and service. Also really appreciate that you can carry on a conversation without having to raise your voice. Plus the art work is always so interesting."

  • "To start I had the Dungeness Crab Risotto. There was a serious lack of seasoning, too much oil and the risotto was slightly runny, which some risottos are, but with no flavour, I felt like I was eating oily water. Not impressed. For the main I had the Elk dish. The Elk was cooked perfect, and the sauce was decent, but the overall dish left me underwhelmed. Dessert was the best part of the dinner. I ordered the Maralumi Chocolate Palette with stout ice cream! It was fantastic. It was fun how they presented chocolate in so many ways. The americano that I had was bitter, I think their espresso machine might be out of calibration. Don't get me wrong, I love a strong cup of black coffee, but this was too bitter. Service was fantastic."

  • "Top-end restaurants come and go. It is the rare restaurant that maintains an overall standard of excellence for many years. Bishops is one such restaurant. We have dined at Bishops for a number of years and they have never failed to impress. While the fresh, creative and delectable menu items are the cornerstone of their reputation, the service and ambience are equally as good. And it's always comforting to see the familiar faces of the staff, few of whom have changed over the years. And while many top-end restaurants use their status as an excuse to charge exorbitant prices, Bishops prices are always reasonable given the quality of the food and experience. Overall, Bishops has been and remains our favourite restaurant in the city."

  • "My second time eating here. I feel relaxed as soon as I come into the restaurant. The food is delicious, the servers are polite and friendly, the food is delicious. The presentation is amazing. I really enjoyed my experiences both times. Really great memories being made at Bishop's with many more to come."

  • "Bishops is a perfect venue for a romantic evening or for a couple of friends to reconnect and enjoy the service, food and ability to talk and hear each other without background noise. An expensive restaurant and we did not expect some inconsistency with menu items - an appetizer with quail egg overwhelmed the risotto and the Artic Char was dry. On the good side, the Assiette of Beef and the Elk were very tasty, presented nicely and cooked as requested, medium rare. The special offering of raw oysters for an appetizer was, a winner. The sauces and pickled asparagus were a perfect match. The best item was saved for the last - the sour cherry dessert. Very professional and accommodating staff and service."

  • "What a perfect evening we had a Bishops'. The atmosphere was warm and calm. Most importantly the food was wonderful - presentation just perfect with added unusual touches - little petals of Brussel Sprouts contrasted with the deep red of the beetroot segments circling the most delicious and perfectly cooked elk (thanks to the recommendation of our waiter - I like it well done, but he suggested medium - he was right!) Also lovely to have John talking to all his customers and being invited into the kitchen to meet his young chef personally!"

  • "The elk was done perfectly medium rare, the accompanying side dishes were fabulous. It was quiet in the restaurant but it was late Sunday evening and the service was excellent. The Cheese Brie dessert with dark cherries was spectacular. Recommend to anyone looking for great food and attentive service from all people."

  • "This is no chain with pre-made food and half trained staff. Bishops is an experience complete with one of a kind food and stellar service. It is easily on par with some of the best restaurants in NYC. The staff works as a seamless unit, as soon as you think to want something someone is there. However, you are never rushed. The food is amazing and really well balanced. The dedication the owner puts into it makes every guest feel like they're a VIP while never feeling pretentious or overly fussy. This is our go to restaurant for a special occasion - or when we want to make an ordinary occasion into something special."

  • "Thanks once again to Bishop's for a fantastic meal! John Bishop treats every diner like an old friend, the food is fantastic, the service wonderful and every visit is a special occasion. I have been eating here for over 20 years and it is always a treat! Maitre D/sommelier Abel Jacinto knows wines exhaustively, new chef Ron Shaw is the latest of a long line of amazing cooks and the staff are all top notch. We had crab risotto and oysters to start, elk striploin steak and a sour cherry tart to finish - all great. Thanks - Bill Tieleman"

  • "The small restaurant space felt intimate and was well decorated. The wait staff was exceptionally courteous and efficient in making sure we had everything we needed. The meal started off with a selection of breads, all of which were delicious and they would bring as much as we wanted. The entrees were cooked to perfection and delicious. The cocktails were expertly mixed. The dessert was to die for. I don't know what else to say, it was as near a perfect romantic dinner as I've ever had!"

  • "Our recent meal at Bishop's was satisfying on many levels. The ambiance is clean and quiet. It seems to be so difficult these days to find a quiet restaurant, but the environment at Bishop's was wonderful. The servers were highly skilled, showing a thorough knowledge of the food and preparation. They seemed to know exactly when they were needed, but never interrupted us. The food was also fantastic - artistically presented, flavorful and fresh. In particular, the levain bread and the chocolate "bar" dessert were the best I have tasted in quite some time!"

  • "We werre disappointed. Our New Year's Eve experience did not live up to the hype for this establsihement. Very limited selection and overpriced. A let down at the end of 2013."

  • "We made reservations and noted that this was a special occasion, unfortunately, we have to take a star off the service as it was not acknowledged by the staff or the hostess at the door. I have noticed pictures of other parties at the restaurant and a dessert was at least piped with Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary and it was both for us. Mr Bishop was on site and he did say hello to all the tables and the staff was very attentive. The food was excellent but for the price, it was not WOW. The appetizers that we ordered is like a main course. We ordered the Duck Parfait and Dungeness Crab Risotto with Crab Bisque Foam. Main Course was very solid, Dessert was heavy also. I Expected lighter fare here but the food was quite heavy & good!"

  • "I have found Bishops to have not lost a beat since John opened the restaurant. We have been going since the first year and save our visits for special occasions as we know it will be excellent. Again, Bishop's did not disappoint. Excellent all the way through but especially like a small but varied menu with emphasis on local main course and side dishes."

  • "I decided that for my birthday my friends and I would go to a nice restaurant. Bishop's was exactly what I hoped it would be, service was excellent. The food was perfectly prepared and served by a friendly staff. We only wish that we had much better jobs so we can afford to eat this well more often."

  • "We took our elderly (but feisty) friend for dinner Thursday evening. We were met at the door and ushered to a quiet corner table by the hostesss - just perfect for conversation, and so unlike many upscale restaurants today. Laura, our server, was attentive and very knowledgeable about both the menu selections and the wine list. Eventually (with no prompting or prodding from staff), we had all made out choices: the women to share one salad and each to have an appetizer as main course; I to have the smoked salmon to start and duck breast main, paired with a beautiful pinot noir from the "Bin Ends" list. Everything arrived in due course and was proclaimed 'excellent' but all - thank you, John B. & staff!"

    Dined on 12/18/2013
  • "not the most eclectic cooking, but what they do, they do really really well - all dishes were perfectly prepared and totally delish service was also outstanding an excellent wine list to choose from prices are high, but given the cooking, quality of the food and the level of service, they are justified"

  • "We have been coming to Bishop's since 1986 to celebrate special occasions. It is always an intimate dining experience, the food is exceptional and the service is personal and professional. We look forward to continuing this tradition."

  • "The food was super, service was very good and the wine excellent. My wife had the beef, I had the lamb, both were cooked beautifully, and were full of flavour. Finished off with sharing a Creme Brûlée- lots of flavour. We went for our wedding anniversary, and would happily go again!"

  • "Everything was very good - service was slow. A four hour meal for 4 people was a little long - long stretches between dishes. the homemade ice cream desert didn't quite make the grade - it was too lardy instead of flavorful."

  • "I have visited Vancouver intermittently for the last 15 years. Every time I go I eat at Bishop's because it is consistently excellent. There is no false note. The service is attentive, informative and friendly. The menu has about 6 starters and 6 entrées so could seem short but the variety would please everyone. I will certainly be back there on my next trip."

  • "I took my girlfriend to Bishop's for our anniversary as my colleagues at work recommended to try this restaurant. We went there for dinner and the food was purely amazing. We loved it so much. Bishop's is definitely in my top restaurants to go to for special occasions, This restaurant has superb service, delicious food, and quaint atmosphere. **Thank you to the staff for surprising my girlfriend and me with a happy anniversary imprinted on our dessert. My girlfriend has a favourite new dessert, earl grey creme brulee"
