BirrotecaFun SpotThis is a fun spot to dine. Interesting choices from the bar. Lots of beers, fun cocktails and an interesting wine list. Crowded on a Wednesday night, our waitress took care of us despite being slightly overwhelmed. Four of us enjoyed two apps, a tasty pizza and shared the special entree for two. The salmon was outstanding. It was a nice night out.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI have seen this locationI have seen this location change three times in several years. It is now THE place to go.
My visit included children, as well as adults. It is extremely unusual for everyone to be soooo pleased with their food.
The meatballs, pasta, and pizza were perfectly presented. We kept ordering more.
The service was efficient and friendly. The owner stopped by and asked if everything was pleasing.
The only thing negative was the icecream was too salty and we were not offered another choice.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGo! Go Now!This is a fun, happening place. The food is excellent. Creative without being fussy or pretentious. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. Man! This place is crowded but still turns out high quality food consistently. I like that they bring each dish as it is ready. Some people find that odd.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFun mealReally good food. Great beer selection.
Cool joint.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable first diningVery enjoyable first dining experience! Staff was great and helpful in picking selections from food and beer menu. Great ambiance, and delicious food. Pizzas were great, perfect for sharing, and pastas and salad went well with pizzas. Definitely recommend!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a surprise! When you drive up (in the pouring rain), you wonder what is the big deal. Wen you get inside, the warmth of the dining room and the staff, hits you immediately. It is such a beautiful rustic old space that has kept the spirit of the place it once was. The foodi is wonderful. The menu is not large, but that is better. Mtge choices are many. The pasta is among the best I have had anywhere. This is a place to return to and see how the menu will change with the seasons. Loved it.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat eveningperfect choice, friendly staff, very accommodating, grilled calamari & veggies outstanding, innovative pizza selections5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of BirroteccaThe group of 6 of us ordered a variety of appetizers, salads, and pizzas and shared everything. The best way to enjoy Birrotecca! Such fun food choices.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVED IT!!We decided to try Birroteca after hearing rave reviews from friends, and we were not disappointed!! The food is fresh and as locally sourced as possible, yet it's still approachable and comfortable. The building is adorable and the staff were extremely nice. I can't wait to go back! DELICIOUS.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AM3rd time a charm-not really.3rd time a charm...not really. Some of the items ordered showed the level of creativity and skill that I've come to expect from this wonderful restaurant. Tthe porchetta tonnato was just terrific, the plump mussels outstanding, the limoncello sorbet was mouth puckereringly delicious BUT what happened to the usually perfect Caesar salad.? It was swimming in a wildly overwhelming lemon vinaigrette and really disappointing. Also the pistachio cannoli- meh! Any place can have an off night and I surely hope that's all it was!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our first time hereIt was our first time here and the 6 of us had a great time last Saturday. The food was amazing, the service was incredible and the atmosphere was fun. We will be back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Time and PlaceWe took our son for his 23rd birthday and had wanted to go someplace that was new and a bit cutting edge. Birroteca did not disappoint. They have a very imaginative menu and everything we ordered was delicious. The wait staff works as a team and handled all aspects of our meal in a very professional manner. And our main waitress was right: the Olive Oil ice cream is to die for!! The pasta was absolutely fresh and best described as luscious. On the volume front, we sat upstairs and by the time we left at around 9:30, the noise level was very loud. So if you're looking to have a lot of conversation, ask to be seated downstairs where we found it to be much quieter on the way out. Definitely worth a return trip.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as always. BothExcellent as always. Both food and service are excellent. The noise level is a bit high, but given the stone walls is probably unavoidable.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is honest, straightforwardThe food is honest, straightforward and pure. We enjoyed everything we tried. The room is loud but full of character. A fun time. We will return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond visit. Love that theSecond visit. Love that the menu changes with seasons. Parking a difficult for someone with mobility problems but the polenta and pizza are so worth the extra effort.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice restaurant. I ateVery nice restaurant. I ate outside and it was a very pleasant experience.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is my second time atThis is my second time at Birroteca and it was just as pleasant as the first. There were four of us there for a birthday dinner and service was good. The waiter was on top of it and never had to call for assistance. He was also was very familiar with the menu and told us that the portions are larger and meant to be shared family-style. We hadn't been told that at the last visit, so were were shocked by the serving size.
I love this restaurant because there are items on the menu not found anywhere else, and even the pickiest or reluctant (burgers only, please!)eaters could find something to please. For those who like duck, there are several items on the menu, and even coppa, which is rarely seen.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy boyfriend and I ate atMy boyfriend and I ate at the bar and recieved wonderful service from our friendly bearded bartender. Excellent pizza - maybe the best I've had in the city. Awesome vibe in the restaurant. Definitely a new favorite. Eat here :)4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTook my daughter for her 24thTook my daughter for her 24th birthday for a Sunday lunch. There were numerous choices and everything we ordered had a delicious, healthy take on it. The crunchy brussel sprouts were seasoned beautifully and a favorite. The brushcetta had a very original twist on the typical favorite, but was another appetizer we'd order on a future visit. The variety of pizza options offered something for every palate! Definitly go and enjoy the seasonal, fresh ingredients as well!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Pizzas are fantastic.Great food. Pizzas are fantastic. We had the Duck Duck Goose and the Double D. Highly recommend the Duck Duck Goose. One item of improvement was the pizza seems slightly overcooked, a little too much burnt crust for my taste. Beer selection was outstanding, I appreciated seeing several local options.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat selection of local beers.Great selection of local beers. Cozy atmosphere and great food!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fun and good. GreatFood was fun and good. Great for sharing. It's a specialized menu so not for everyone, but if you're looking for a great, interactive dining experience, you won't be disappointed. And the attentive, friendly service made it all work.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded ExpectationsExceeded my expectations, we were a bigger group and still got perfect service. The plates are served family style, each portion serves 2-3 people, and they come out as they are ready... so theres always new food coming to the table. The location is a little odd, the building is surrounded by gravel and the 'front' of the restaurant is actually in the back of the building which faces a highway and has no sign as to which door to enter, however, its very spacious and nicely done inside, the bar is BIG and the lighting is great. Must try the Duck duck goose pizza, charcuterie, mushroom risotto, wild boar pappardelle bolognese, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, panna cotta, cannolis, chocolate caramel tart. I will definitely be coming back.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood GemGreat find. I will return often. Pizza and salad were very good. Wine was decent for the price point. Very reasonably priced menu. I absolutely love the decor and atmosphere.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe thoroughly enjoyed ourWe thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Service was attentive and the decor was impressive. The highlight of our meal was the desert. All deserts are made in house. Will definitely return and bring friends.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThey consider the food selectionThey consider the food selection as tapas. The portions were nice size and good for sharing. The soup came in a huge bowl.Salad could have been split by 3 easily and still have a nice size portion.
Pazzo gives smaller portions and seems more expensive for what you get. I would go back. They have an upstairs and it is a lot of steps so if there is someone in your party that might have trouble when making a reservation I would mention not to put you upstairs. They have a good selection of beers.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful experienceWe had a wonderful experience at Birroteca last night. Our waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating; other members of the staff also went out of their way to give us good service. Everything came out quickly & piping hot, and delicious! We had the calamari and the burrata bruschetta appetizers; both were outstanding, and we went with the classic, pesto pizza. All were great. Great wine list, great dessert cocktail, and an excellent value compared to similar restaurants.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for a girls night out!We went there as a surprise party for my friends birthday with 8 girls and had such a great time! Amazing food, and enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe of this restaurant. They sat our large group in the bar area section, and while it was a little noisy...the perfect place to gather with friends and have a great evening. We shared lots of different dishes which they kept bringing out continuously through the night. Can't wait to go back and bring my husband! Loved the calamari and the mushroom bruschetta!!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWent here for the first timeWent here for the first time to just meet a friend for dinner and drinks. Great beer selection, delicious and creative food dishes, and a very cool, trendy atmosphere made it a great time. Highly recommend the duck duck goose pizza!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMYes, get the Calamari, andYes, get the Calamari, and everything else, including the Duck Pizza, and Pesto pizza.
I saw lots of talk/reviews about "rudeness" of servers....what are people talking about?....we had a superb person who explained everything and suggested favorites.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe tried Birotecca for theWe tried Birotecca for the first time for Easter brunch. The restaurant was packed, and we had elderly parents with us. The manager set up a table in a quiet area. The waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious. We enjoyed the pastas and pizzas, as well as the calamari, which was the best I've had in Baltimore.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time & becoming a big fanJust enough foodie fare for the wife and more than enough beers for me. Two different ambiences depending on whether you sit in the bar or dining room. We've done one of each in our two trips there and enjoyed both. The staff is incredibly enthusiastic and that brings a positive vibe to the whole experience. We'll definitely be back again.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food. Our waiterFantastic food.
Our waiter was attentive and not snobby. Kind to my mother-in-law.
We will be back.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat second experience!Great second experience! There were four in our party and we wanted to try so many things that we ended up with way too much food. If we had to do it over, we wouldn't have ordered the Duck Duck Goose pizza. I know we're in a minority but it wasn't our favorite! We actually thought it was kinda bland except for the lovely gooey egg center. After that, the pie was sorta disappointing! We thought our other pizza with fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, mushroom and spicy fennel sausage was the clear winner. Other favorites of the night were the Brussels sprouts, mussels, and gnocchi. The carbonara was good, and the escarole salad was solid. The cocktail menu has been "freshened" up for spring and includes a delightful basil creation. Yum3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food. Best artisanExcellent food. Best artisan pizza and duck confit risotto we've had in the area. They even have a gluten free crust for the pizza. I'll be back to try that for sure! Birroteca has definitely been added to our regular restaurant rotation!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, all dishes areGreat food, all dishes are unique and prepared with perfection.
Great atmosphere.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best calamari I have everThe best calamari I have ever had. Wonderful list of beers on tap. Wonderful arugula salad. Pasta dishes (had the bolognese and carbonara) are good, not exceptional.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good!Great beer and pizza. Excellent service, very attentive. And it turns out they're great with families and kids. We had our 2 year old there and it was great, she loved the pizza!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was sublime! I didThe food was sublime! I did my "happy food dance" in my seat. Seriously. The only downside was the porkbelly pizza was not a scent I could appreciate & all around me were people eating it. I understand it is quite good.
The waitress offered me a taste of any beer I had questions about & that was so helpful!
We had a great time & we will be back!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI can't hear my food.Great, imaginative food. Super friendly service. Good draft beer selection. Good wines. Super noisy due to the stone and hardwood construction of the historic building.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSeating upstairs is quietVery nice. After reading reviews I was concerned ayhat it would be very loud. So, I took an earlier reservation and requested a quiet table. We were seated upstairs and that was perfect.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my 4th time thereThis was my 4th time there and I took three friends who had never been. They loved it! The restaurant is so charming and warm. We will all be back.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food- always great service.Great food- always great service. It is VERY loud in the bar area and they keep the restaurant usually dark. I feel like I need a headlamp to navigate.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSuch a wonderful experience.Such a wonderful experience. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was delicious! I will definitely go back.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMdefinitely recommend and woulddefinitely recommend and would go back often. Food, service, etc. all very good and the fact their pizza oven was broken did bother us but will return to try their pizza offerings.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the gnocchi (outstanding),We had the gnocchi (outstanding), kale salad and cauliflower side. The atmosphere has a good vibe. The pizza oven was broken the night we went, and no accommodation was offered (e.g. small gift card to come back again). We were very disappointed with that limitation on the menu. They charge for bread ($2) which i think is chintzy in a good restaurant. They could ask if the parties would like bread so as to avoid waste.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceHad a great time. The food was fantastic and beer/wine selection was good as well.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI went to Birroteca with aI went to Birroteca with a group of 8, and had an amazing meal. It's a little out of the way; our cab driver needed several stops for directions in order to get to the place. It was definitely an energetic ambiance, but perhaps the noise level was a bit too high-it was hard to hear the person across from me, let alone have a group conversation.
The food was excellent, but some of the portions were small. I had the Pappardelle with Wild Boar sauce, and it was amazing, but fairly small. Someone at the far end of the table ordered a steak, however, that was enormous, but I think his was meant to be served family style.
The wine and beer list was extensive, but more information would have been welcome. I would definitely return in the fut3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMKudos to manager Sean andKudos to manager Sean and owner Robbin. Misunderstanding led to being seated at a downstairs table. Management quickly switched gears to accommodate. Service was exceptional. Our server, Jane, made us feel as if we were the only party. She was patient and kind and incredibly responsive and intuitive. The calamari was one of the best things I've EVER eaten. The olive oil and salt ice cream is ambrosia - food of the gods! Special, special restaurant because of the WHOLE package - food, service and ambiance.3/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA lot to sayMeatballs
Salumi & Cheese
Brussel Sprouts
Pancetta pizza
We arrived a little late for our reservation
and they quickly sat us at a small table for
two in the alcove overlooking the Light Rail.
Our server quickly got us our beer order and
I appreciated them checking the alc% on a
seasonal beer they were serving.
The view was great, table cozy, but the place
was loud. On to the meatballs. This was my
favorite dish of the night. It's exactly what you
want on a cold Friday night. The salumi and
cheeses were great. Pickles and bread above
par. The Brussels were intense and I literally
order them at every restaurant I dine at. Try em
but I warn you, your burps have been compromised.
Pizza was delish but salty. O3/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
