Diner Reviews
  • "Had heard many good things about Birroteca and it lived up to the hype. Dinner was delicious. Noise level was high but not unbearable. We will go back."

  • "A great meal from start to finish. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Suggestions made for shared items, calamari and meatballs, started our evening off in the right direction. Our cocktails were inventive and delicious. Our entries... the Tuesday special of duck was memorable. Steak tartar, brussel sprouts and a duck confit rounded out our ordering. All were spot on and would gladly order again. The place is a must go...not fussy or pretentious. Many items on the menu that were not will make a return visit a must."

  • "Don't miss out. The best calamari, peach brushetta, salumi and cheese and roasted pig and fresh creaming corn polenta!"

  • "Birroteca is a large neighborhood bar with a smallish foodie menu of flatbreads and pasta dishes. Large variety of beers. Good for an occasional casual meal. No complaints, but not a place I have to run back to."

  • "We loved every dish. fantastic, with no wait for our table and great service."

  • "The food was, as is usually the case, delicious. Instead of getting pizza or pasta, we got a number of side dishes, appetizers, and a cheese plate. My only complaint is that the menu no longer features the eggplant fries! They were my favorite!"

  • "pair the mushroom and duck pizzas for a wonderful mix"

  • "A grand experiment combining rustic Italian food, including charcuterie (salumi), thin crust pizzas, and a wide variety of craft beers on tap. Loved everything I tried. Our server was terrific. Laid back, but attentive at the same time. It is a large restaurant with tables indoor and out. Inside was rather noisy. Outside was quieter."

  • "Very nice dinner, great food, nice wine selection. Service was attentive, sometimes smug. Scene was fun, slightly loud"

  • "great food,,,good prices,,service slow at first,,then picked up"

  • "The food was very good, if not exceptional. Since we tried only a few items, I can't in good conscience give an excellent; although the Duck and risotto were definitely OUTSTANDING. I'm not usually a fan of duck but this was very tender and not fatty. The noise level is very high. My sweetie and I were in a two seater at the end, near a wall and we still had to speak loudly to be heard. I loved the craft paper on the table, we played hangman and tic-tac-toe between courses. The beer list is extensive, did not try any wines but the list seemed well rounded. The staff was attentive but not hovering. We will return again and again. Well worth the trip."

  • "The two of us had the absolutely wonderful calamari and the very good fried green tomatoes to start. We then shared the Tuesday Duck special. The skin was beautifully crisp. The meat was tender and flavorful. The orzo was creamy. Both the duck and orzo were oversalted to the point that we needed to stop eating them. Our server was a lovely person who seemed to be overly busy or somewhat pre-occupied. The noise level was exuberant but not so loud that we could not hear ourselves speaking."

  • "Seated in the bar area this time and it was quite loud. Food was wonderful as usual, service was OK - could have used another server or two for the room as the place filled up. Not the restaurant's fault, but the family adjacent to us was loud and selfish - our tables were close together and they made no effort to make room for us as we were seated, then continuously bumped us at our table as they moved around. Their kids were screaming throughout the meal. Fortunately they left before we finished and another family took their place with well-behaved kids and a much more considerate manner."

  • "My friends took me here for my birthday. The food was awesome. Try the Bianco pizza, wow! Chef Melanie is very talented. It was pretty loud, or maybe just the table around us. They have the lights very dim in here and would be a great date spot. I would highly reccomend it. It's a cute place!"

  • "The food was excellent, specifically the Crispy Polenta and the Duck Duck Goose pizza. The service was uneven -- our reservation was 'lost', no one refilled our water, etc. Definitely no huge service issues, but it wasn't a seamless experience either."

  • "I have been to Birroteca a number of times and have never been disappointed. The Brussels sprouts are outstanding - crispy and fried with bacon bits, even veggie haters can't resist. Though we passed on the dessert, all the dishes were great - the calamari were super tender and we ordered another order of it. Of course the pizza are also good; we particularly like the mushroom pizza. The scene is always vibrant at Birroteca and we always look forward to returning."

  • "My partner and I have usually really enjoy meals here. Within walking distance of our home we like to think of it as a little neighborhood gem but our meal Friday didn't feel worthy of a good review. Our server (that we have had before and loved) was nice but slow and inattentive. Our drinks and food were just OK. The timing between food was too fast at points and way to slow between others. I get the vibe that they think they're a great restaurant but do not have to work on it any more....the inconsistency in the food and service was truly disappointing."

  • "Delicious, as always, and great service, too. We love meeting friends here for dinner, but it does fill up, so plan in advance and choose to eat at non-peak times. Our 6 p.m. reservations meant we got lots of attention."

  • "Took a friend who'd never been and he posted on Facebook how much he enjoyed ambience, the staff and most of all the food. We had the gluten free wild mushroom pizza and kale salad. Something for everyone; staff is friendly and helpful. Got to taste the Roast Pig, a Sunday night thing, and it was delicious."

  • "Throughly enjoyed the calamari, brussel sprouts, and octopus appetizers! The pesto pasta was awesome! Our only complaint is that while the portion of the two pizzas with topping was good, the crust had not flavor whatsoever. A good pizza is made by its crust. Service as great and their is an extensive beer list."

  • "Birroteca is the restaurant I most often recommend to others - fit for foodies offerings in well-designed, interesting space -- with a good price/value relationship. Price point is good and dress code is relaxed. Love it -- and love that calamari!"

  • "Great atmosphere. Cool location and venue. Lived it for that. Good was excellent. Menu was a bit limiting with many of the entrees for 2."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Birroteca and really enjoyed the ambiance, wine, and food! The spicy crispy chick peas are an amazing appetizer! And the vegetarian pizza was fantastic!"

  • "Food was good, very good and service as well. Loved the whole experience and will go back again when an opportunity arises."

  • "We have been here within the past year and visited again with out of town guests. The restaurant is pretty noisy so conversation is a little difficult. We ordered the spicy chickpeas and found they were WAY too hot to eat, even for those anticipating the spice. This appetizer used to be delightful (and edible) but not now. Pizzas were ok as was pasta dish but every entree came out kind of greasy. Service - just ok, no personality. Great s' mores for dessert!"

  • "So it is that good. Three dinners in the same week. Pizza fantastic. Food presented well and good! What they offer, they do well. Will keep on my favorites' list."

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my Saturday evening with friends at Birroteca. The food is DIVINE: incredible flavors and impressive selection. No one else in my party had been there before, and we all seriously enjoyed our meals. The wine/beer/drink selection is also fabulous, and the server was attentive, despite the busy-ness of the bar. My only regret is that the big tables are all in the bar, which was very loud and made conversation difficult. Still, I'm glad to see such a great restaurant thriving. Can't wait to go again!"

  • "Actually,it always starts with a drink, right? And B-Tec's drink list is extensive and impressive.Appetizers--equally impressive. But the two best pizzas I've had recently have both been here. The last one had tomatoes so fresh that melted in my mouth-and I would have gotten another, different one(a favorite from before)had it not been for the recommendation of our waiter."

  • "This was my second time dining here. My first visit was soon after they opened and they still had a lot of kinks to work through. My last visit was not much better than the first. The food was just ok, the service was just ok, the noise level is way up there. We were seated in the bar, even though I made a reservation several days ahead of time. The dessert ( their version of s'mores) was probably the worst dessert I've ever had. The marshmallows were not melted but burned and had a very potent chemical taste which must have come from the blow torch. The graham crackers were tasteless. The pizza was ok but the crust was very tough. On the other hand, the Brussel sprouts were amazing."

  • "Nice roasted brussels sprouts. We enjoyed the Double D and Margherita pizzas, but note that cheese is basically non existent on both. Crust is a fire-baked hard bite, meatballs had nice flavor. Cesar salad had wonderful buttery croutons."

  • "Creative, fresh, unique. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. The bar is beautiful room but the stone walls and floors also means the room can get extremely loud."

  • "Our party of 6 got slow service with one main dish forgotten. Our server seemed harassed & commented she had 12 tables. The appetizers were good, those who got risotto or pasta liked their meals. Pizza and other main dishes were mediocre at best. The place was busy and there was a high energy and noise level. The bars to let me rate noise don't seem to be working, it was so loud we could hardly hold a conversation. Clearly the low prices, casual food and neighborhood location are draws.Overall a disappointing experience."

  • "Great risotto and beet salad - perfect meal to share."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "All of the dishes, from small plates to entrees, had beautiful blend of flavors. We decided on pork belly and octopus followed by Tagliatelle and Polenta Gnocch, all delicious. An extensive beer list was diminished by the number "not available" but there are enough from which to choose. The ease of parking on their own lot makes the choice to come here easier. Prices are reasonable and the table settings and placement makes for comfortable dining."

  • "It's been a long time searching in Baltimore for good pizza. This was just the thing we needed! Not too expensive high quality food. And my 6 yr old ate his entire "kids" pizza which was fit for two!"

  • "Fantastic place with phenomenal food. Delicious apps get the night going while you sip on great wine/beer/cocktails and then.. Bring on the pies! Not your tradition pizza, I'm talking Duck con fit with balsamic glaze! To die for! Highly recommended!"

  • "I went to Birroteca with a friend for dinner. Other than it being loud, we had a great time. The food was wonderful and the waitress was really responsive and cool with fun blue, pink and black hair. We ordered mussels for an app which were cooked just right (plump & juicy). Then we ordered the arugula salad which was delicious with fresh strawberries & blue cheese. Next we got the orchiette pasta with fresh asparagus and the Cibola pizza (onions with a smooth creamy sauce). Desert was delicious too. We had something that resembled chocolate cream of wheat with ice cream. I love to try fun drinks so I drank the blueberry splash drink which was quite tart & refreshing. Next I drank the week's special which had bourban in it."

  • "Second time dining at Birroteca and it is definitely a favorite! The staff was super cool and accommodating of my friend and her small baby. The cocktails delicious; the bottles of wine - great selection at a reasonable price. The food is just outstanding - the calimari appetizer was cooked perfectly - nice and tender. The brussel sprouts were amazing. We all forgot how big the pizzas are and each chose our own - but can easilly be shared family style. The Duck Duck Goose - both the gluten free and regular options were delicious. The Kale Salad was bright and filling. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Everything was delicious, but the brussel sprouts are amazing!!! Don't miss out on them, they will turn the most adament hater into a convert."

  • "The restaurant vibe was great; noisy, but not too loud. The food was a bit hit or miss, but mostly miss. The calamari dish was fantastic and different then the usual fried calamari that most places offer. My golden beet pasta dish was decent, but the chopped pistacios didn't seem to add anything to the dish except a bit of color (and I love pistacios). The proscuitto bruschetta was good, but heavy on the aioli. I didn't like the fennel sausage at all. For dessert, the ice creams were great, but the addition of polenta in one of the dishes didn't work at all. Service at the bar was great, but was pretty poor at the table. Felt like our server was going through the motions and I don't know if she smiled at all."
