I LOVE their pizza! Get the Duck Duck Goose and Cipallo pizzas. Yum! I also had their Basil-Berry Smash and it was delicious. Staff is very nice and energetic. It was really noisy in there. There were a couple of groups in the room we were dining in and the sound just bounces around. I felt like I had to yell for my boyfriend to hear me. Other than that, it's great! Go there!

Outstanding service. The waitress (and chef) was very accommodating dietary restriction, accepted a request to modify the sides accompanying the main entree for the day with a creative and delicious solution. The overall menu composition was very good. Some of the portion sizes, i.e. Octopus appetizer had about 5 razor thing slices mixed with the same amount of slices of radishes. We all thought it deserved a few more pieces of Octopus but the flavor was excellent. The Calamari a la plancha was more of what we expected as far as size, the flavor was good and the texture was great, the flavor came out more after squeezing the lemon wedges.

I came to this restaurant as it was recommended by friends. It was attractive inside, but parking is rough. The bar is active and friendly, but the food was a great disappointment. The Brussels sprouts were so intensely roasted that they were black, I would not have served them. The salad I had was covered with black pepper which I did not ask for. The pizza , not all that interesting, and tasted as it had been sitting around for awhile. They offered us a dessert for free , which was kind, but the desserts are so small, not something u would share.

Made a reservation on September 9th for the 16th and was seated in the bar, at the kitchen exit for the servers. it was difficult to hear each other and friends stopping by could not stand near us without blocking the way. While the meal was delicious, $50 for two entrees, a beer and a glass of wine seem a little steep without salads, sides, or even some complimentary bread. One of our two servers stopped me on the way out to ask if I had settled the bill, which I had done with the other server.

My husband and I loved coming because we enjoyed the pizza, but were saddened with the quality this past visit. The pizza sauce was awful, it tasted strongly of vinegar and the vegetables seemed old. I was looking forward to dinner here, but I am sad to say I won't be back unless it's for just a beer.

This place was really great. Food and service was spot on. The one negative was a major one: It was too loud!! I had a really hard time hearing my dinner guest who was sitting just right across the table from me. For that reason, this may not be an ideal location for an intimate dinner with a significant other unless the restaurant is willing to seat you in a more secluded space from the main dining room.

I've been to Birroteca before so the ridiculous noise level was, sadly, expected. But why the lack of organization at the host desk and with the service? It really isn't hard for one to receive guests pleasantly and politely...a group waiting when we came in finally said "We want our table now!" They were seated. Why did they have to demand to be seated? I was asked by three people, who seemed to rotate in and out of the host area, if we had reservations, and then that our table wasn't ready, yet there were five set tables in front of us. Finally taken upstairs, we suffered through shouts from a football-watching group. All in all the staff seem disorganized and ill-trained. After this I'll really have to be enticed to Birroteca again.

Bustling, amazing, Italian restaurant with a fabulous management and staff. A bit out of the way but once you get there, you will be AMAZED. Don't miss the Calamari a la plancha, any of the bruschettas or pastas. Ask to be seated in the main dining room. You will not be disappointed.

The food was amazing. Brussel sprouts as an app should not be missed! The cocktails were tasty and the bar staff friendly and helpful. Service was a bit off, though. We weren't seated for our 8:00 reservation until close to 8:30 due to a traffic jam holding up the prior reservations (not sure that's how it should work?), after ordering we waited quite a while for our apps, then waited even longer until we were informed that one dish ordered had run out. It was, unfortunately, the first time at the restaurant for our friend. I'm not sure she was overly impressed due to the hiccups and not sure that she will return. My husband and I will gladly return in the hopes that this was an off night.

Typically I am not the kind to write reviews because frankly I don't give a damn more often than naught, but I'll make an exception this time. Birroteca is the hidden hipster hide-away that you might expect to find in Hampden. The staff are very attentive, in fact it's a dazed of mustachioed men in button-downs and young attractive tattooed ladies. Plus, the food is quite good. It's all the attraction of Italian with that strange foodie twist. Birroteca serving amazing food is not quite the place for the burger-n-fries type, it requires more of an open-mind and empty stomach. A little suggestion for all big eaters who attend though, order multiple entree's and if you go with a group, feel free to scare so you can experience the whole gambit

I know this is a business cliche, but we expect the food at Birroteca to be creative and taste great. However, the Polenta Gnocchi with duck confit was truly amazing! The featured cocktails like "Young Man's Game", wines, service and atmosphere were great as usual. If only the restaurant wasn't so noisy.

Our first visit, in an old mill area next to the Jones Falls which is hidden by the bridges of an expressway. From the roadside you might think it was a biker bar, but the crowded parking lot said otherwise. They have three seating areas, the bar, the restaurant and the patio and after listening to us the hostess very kindly put us on the patio. A free bottle of filtered tap water appeared immediately (and was always promptly refilled). From there, the service was excellent, attentive and well-informed without being cloying. The food is mostly locally sourced (and that does not mean from the nearest supermarket) and was excellent and interesting without being overly fussy. The beer list is outstanding and the wine list very reasonable

This is a charming spot but a little tricky to find. The food is very good, but it tends to be rich and in large portions. It would be best to share as our waiter suggested. The bruchestas are huge and filling. The pizzas as well are large and substantial. We saw some salads which also looked enormous. It might be good to check out the menu so you don't wind up with several huge dishes all to yourself. The risotta was particularly good. We made the mistake of asking for a quiet table when we made our reservation. This meant we had to climb stairs or sit outside. An elderly member of our party is hard of hearing and also stairs are a problem and did not want to eat outside. So asking for a quiet table was a bad idea.

I had never though of turning left on 36th street in Hampden until a friend told me about Birroteca. I will definitely be turning left again as Birrotection not only has parking onsite but has really good food and a very nice selection of beers. We shared a delicious plate of calamari seasoned perfectly and very tenever and the fried misto vegetables which were crispy and delicious. We finished with a lovely corn cheesecake. Looking forward to returning in the near future.

Don't take people you actually want to talk to/hear. Sigh. We planned our big "let's all get together again!!!" night out with 3 other couples. Couldn't hear a word anybody said until the table behind us left. I'm sure we weren't the only group thinking that. It was excessively loud. Took a while to get service, but it was a busy night. We never felt rushed, and everything we ate was good.

  • Too Loud, Staff is Stressed

    Dined on 8/22/2014
I've been here twice this month. It is WAY TOO LOUD. Guests are yelling over each other, doesn't appear to be a fault of the building or layout. Owners and staff need to get a handle and keep noise level down. Others were visibly frustrated both times I was here. Staff is visibly overwhelmed. We ordered a starter that took 20 minutes to tell us the kitchen was out, never took another order. We asked for a menu to pick another, never came back until nearly done our meal. Got a drink wrong, but so chaotic we didn't fix it because it was a futile effort. The food is excellent. But you can't enjoy it over the noise, and I have a real pet peeve for servers that can't bring menus, silverware, water, or ask the table how it's doing periodically.

The food for the most part was pretty good. The bruschettas were best, the pasta was average, and the pizzas, which we'd really enjoyed on a previous visit, were sadly very soggy in the middle. Service very spotty/hurried/disorganized, and not overly friendly (but then again, didn't expect much better when sitting in the bar/hightop area) The part that left a particularly bad taste in our mouths, after a nice night out with friends, was reviewing the receipt, and finding that we'd been charged for: 1) an item we didn't order, 2) $1 extra for ice in a drink, and 3) $2 for bread we didn't ask for. Item 1 got fixed, but don't like being nickel and dimed at a place where you're already spending plenty. Sadly, changed our opinion of here.

A great meal from start to finish. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Suggestions made for shared items, calamari and meatballs, started our evening off in the right direction. Our cocktails were inventive and delicious. Our entries... the Tuesday special of duck was memorable. Steak tartar, brussel sprouts and a duck confit rounded out our ordering. All were spot on and would gladly order again. The place is a must go...not fussy or pretentious. Many items on the menu that were not will make a return visit a must.

A grand experiment combining rustic Italian food, including charcuterie (salumi), thin crust pizzas, and a wide variety of craft beers on tap. Loved everything I tried. Our server was terrific. Laid back, but attentive at the same time. It is a large restaurant with tables indoor and out. Inside was rather noisy. Outside was quieter.
