Diner Reviews
  • "Great place! Recommended to us by a local (we were visiting from DC) and we were not disappointed! Service was great. The whole place, both bar and dining room are warm and inviting. Food was exceptional...our only (non-serious) 'compliant'...the portions were heaping, especially the pasta! Food was fresh and favorful. Order anything off the menu, it's ALL that good! Hands down we'll be back, even if we have to make up a reason to be back in that area!"

  • "Consistently and reliably high quality ingredients served in authentic Italian recipes. Able to choose from staple favorites and interesting new specials. Servers are knowledgeable and personable. Everytime I return to Basil T's I feel like I'm "going home"."

  • "The food was very good. The service was great as well. The issue was it was so noisy that it was impossible to have a conversation. You could hear conversations from 4 tables away as folks were yelling over the rest of the crowd. I've never been in such a loud restaurant."

  • "Haven't ever had a bad meal here, but have been here on some very noisy nights. The food is fabulous from the antipasto to the desserts. The beer sampler is a great thing - and their home brewed beer is very good. The wine list is also fine. Excellent rustic Italian food."

  • "I would describe Basil T's as Italian comfort food (with occasional) American influence. Comfortable dining room and flavorful, high-quality food. Recommended."

  • "Food is good, beer is good, it seems the prices are high for a restaurant of this type."

  • "Excellent Italian food prepared with fresh ingredients. The Rallos know what they are doing"

  • "Food was good - very nice presentation - cool vibe Our server was not knowledgeable. I expected better for the price. When I asked for recommendations she used the word "nice" to describe most wines."

  • "I've been here several times and am charmed everytime. The ambiance of the Italian theme is wonderful. I love walking through the "hallway" of overflowing tomato baskets and huge wheels of cheese. The staff is very knowledgable, the food is phenomenal and you can tell its made fresh daily. I love that the menu changes frequently (check for the date) - keeps it interesting. They make the absolute best Pasta Fagioli I've ever had and the homemade gnocchi are fantastic. Highly recommended and reservations are a must!"

  • "The food is phenomenal. I will definitely be back again, very soon."

  • "This place is a great place to grab a local brewed beer, but the price for the food vs. portion size is not worth it. I ordered the raviolli for 23 dollars and I was served 10 thin raviolli. I left the restaurant and went to a local pizza place to finish my meal. Plan on spending alot of money for little food. The service was good and the restaurant is nice, but my empty wallet hurts."

  • "Amazing wine list (note, all Italian wines). Food is fantastic. Can get a bit loud as this is a family friendly place. Well worth the noise even on a date as the food & wine are fantastic."

  • "My wife & I celebrated our Anniversary at Basil T's. We arrived early and enjoyed a drink in their energetic bar. Good beers! (Ask about the numbered mugs.) The service was Great! And the manager went out of his way to recognize our special night. He gave us a quieter corner table, and a free round of drinks! Food was terrific! I had the lasagna - our waitress kindly told me "not the ususal stlye that's cut out from a baking pan." It was loosely assembled on my plate as an individual serving. Very interesting! My wife had eggplant over rigatoni, with cubed eggplant that was quick-fried. Mine was great, her's was awesome - not the least bit greasy or mushy! Fresh apple/pear tart was a fantastic finish. We'll definiteley go back"

  • "Beers were great. Food was pricey but excellent. In Red Bank it is the place to go."
    Dined on 9/27/2008
  • "The restaurant was great great great!!! The Pesto pasta dish that was made with broccoli-rabe....awful! The rest of the food was amazing, but I absolutely hated the dish....and so did my entire party....rethink it perhaps? Or make sure the waiters point out that it is not the basil pesto that people may think...but my fault, I didn't read the description as carefully as I should have."

  • "We had an early dinner before catching the train from Red Bank. Service was excellent. The short ribs over homemade gnocchi were delicious. And the tri-color salad was more than enough for two people to share. They have an extensive wine list. I will definitely be going back to try other dishes."

  • "Located at a major intersection in Red Bank, Basil T's is a pleasant and relaxed italian restaurant with great food and a welcoming bar scene. I enjoyed the generously portioned gnocci dish that was well prepared with a light fresh tomato basil sauce (pomodoro fresco). I added 3 delicious grilled shrimp for a few extra dollars. The award winning "Maxwell's Dry Stout" was my beer of choice. It would be a winner in my book as well. I will return and recommend to others."

  • "Great pasta and caesar salad but very expensive. I've been here a few times and the hostess has always been pleasant but the waiters and waitresses are very inattentive and sometimes incompetent. I would come back for the food but not very often."

  • "Loved the tomatoes displayed everywhere and their great tomato salad. Pizza was great! Cheeses outstanding! Veggie friendly restaurants are hard to find and this is a gem. Beer was refreshing and tasty."

  • "I'm of Italian descent, so it's difficult to find an italian restaurant up to my standards. That being said, it was very good. A bit noisy, but the food was good, the wait staff was excellent, and the overall experience was nice. We'd go back!"

  • "A little dark, but otherwise very good. We would return."
    Dined on 7/18/2008
  • "Food was fresh and everything we ordered was VERY good. We requested wine suggestions with our entrees and their recommendations were great. We did find the dining room very dark, although that may be romantic it did make it quite difficult to read the menu! We enjoyed their beer made on site. It is not for the budget minded diner, it is on the pricey side, but considering the freshness and quality of the food, we thought it was worth it. Overall a great dinner - we will be back!"

  • "Waitress explained the night's specials and gave the price for each which doesn't often happen. I ordered the scallop special, and was not disappointed. The tomatoes in the Caprese salad were some of the best beefsteak tomatoes I've had in a long time. The service was excellent: constant refills of water, iced tea, etc without having to search or request. Piping hot rolls were replaced, again without having to ask."

  • "Everything is overpriced. Wine prices by the glass are out of sight. Limited menu - food is very good - just totally overpriced!!! Even though we enjoy the place we only go there if nothing else is available"
    Dined on 6/19/2008
  • "Nice dining experience. A few of the site-brewed beers on posted their list were not available when we asked to order them. The table lighting is very, very dim. Reading the menu is a challenge because of the lighting."
    Dined on 6/4/2008
  • "The homemade pastas were wonderful and the wine list out of this world. The servings are huge, too. The prices were a little too high for Italian food, otherwise this is a great place for large groups."

  • "We drove from Rochester NY strictly to see Bob Burger and decided to have dinner with you too. It was our first time at Basil T's. My husband and I enjoyed every minute of our visit, the food was incredible and so was our server. We also loved the tomatoes all over the place, we took pictures before we left! We'll see you again for sure."

  • "Food and service were great. However, even though we had reservations, we were seated at a tall table in the bar area instead of a regular table in the dining room. I was a little disappointed in that."
    Dined on 5/18/2008
  • "Food Good but not as good as expected. Very pricey -especially for pasta. Despite a reservation had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Exceptionally noisy - definately didn't live up to our expectations or the glowing recommendation of our friends who'd been there. Wouldn't go back. Too many other good restaurants in the area with way less noise, much better food."

  • "Shrimp dinner was horrible. Service was fair. No mention of daily specials but we heard another waiter mentioning specials to another table. Both of us would have chosen the special."

  • "went on a saturday night in the spring, so we expected it would likely be a bit loud, otherwise a very nice much better than average Italian restaurant."
    Dined on 5/3/2008
  • "Very loud and expensive. We had 1 pizza, 4 beers and 2 glasses of wine, with a 20% tip it was $80. That is absolutely ridiculous and way overpriced. Table next to us was VERY loud and rude and very drunk. Will not return. Feel free to contact me about this at mpaskin@comcast.net"

  • "Because the menu changes often you need to have one good fall back dinner ie chicken parmigan. The 1st time we were there we had excellent service and food, this time not so good. I made reservations 6:30 on line cool. didn't sit until 6:55 Host seemed to have lost our name. The waitress had a big party and did focus on us. We waited for water wine etc - I had chicken dinner with salad on top it was dry and boring. waitress credited bill. Our experience is not making me rush back. I will certinly look at the menu now before I go. Although I enjoy your restaurant the menu changes too much for me to rely on one good meal. Thanks for letting me tell you about it. Sharon Reed"

  • "I chose this place because of their reputation of an excellent quality brewpub. The beer was fresh & exceeded my expectations, and the food was unique and delicious. The portions were large, it was well worth the price. I will definitely return to Basil T's and I would highly recommend this place."

  • "We were looking for a new place to dine. We were celebrating a friend's 30th birthday. Our friend is also vegetarian so it had to be Italian. I googled restaurants in Red Bank and came upon Basil T's and we decided to try it after looking at their web site. We were not disappointed!!! We arrived on time for our reservation to a waiting area that was packed with individuals waiting to dine. We waited only 5 mins to be seated. To make it short, the food was out of this world.....the service was second to none and the atmosphere was delightful. Although the restaurant was very busy, we were not rushed one bit! The server, and bartenders were extremely friendly and knowledgable of their food and drink selections! It was a delight!!"

  • "This was a great place for dinner. Had a reservation and was seated immediately. The bread, wine and food was absolutely delicious. It was a bit pricey, but the food was good enough to be worth it. The only drawback was I felt as if we were rushed from the moment we sat down. The waitress did not have the best manner and they were quick to clear our plates before we were done. Very disturbing, especially since the bill for 3 came close to $200. Overall, if you get a good waiter or waitress, I would totally recommend this place for dinner."

  • "Food was very good and portions large. Service was excellent. This was a lunch meeting, and I asked for a table location that would accomodate conversation. That request was very well met. All in all, an enjoyable experience."

  • "Brian is a friendly, knowledgable wine guy. Always a pleasure. I live in Fair Haven, and refused to go to Basil's because I was too lazy to drive past the Molly, too much traffic, blah, blah. Then Cliff Rigby showed me the shortcut from Front Street past The Brother's, and now I'm a regular."
