  • "This café is truly lovely; from the location within the historic Birks building to the quality of the food. However, my one gripe with it is that from the moment we were welcomed to the moment we left, we were treated extremely rudely by the female Maître D' on duty. On the other hand, the waiter and busboys were extremely helpful and professional. Quite honestly, the waiter was exceptional. Unfortunately, I have to say that because the Maître D' provides the first impression that lasts in an establishment, I will not particularly be recommending Birks Café to my friends and will likely choose another place to have brunch or afternoon tea next time my friends and I plan on doing so."

  • "Food and tea was great. Getting rushed at 4.45pm while sipping our tea ruined it. Had this been specified upon reserving, I would have gone somewhere else."

  • "I went with my mother to try out their high tea. The tea selection was interesting, I chose the velvety Marco-Polo and my mom chose the refreshing yet subtle mint tea (forgot the name). The food was excellent executed. I particularly enjoyed their light and flavorful devonshire cream. The dark chocolate pistachio verrine was such a delight! The ambiance was well decorated and made us comfortable. The only down side is that their chairs did not have enough support. As for the service, maybe we went in a busy day, the waiter wasn't able to be too attentive, we often need to wave him to come to our service while he tried to pretend to not see us! But overall, really worth the price! A must try!!"

  • "This restaurant is set in a store: whether this is the reason or not, babies may be present and shouting. There was a shouting baby for our whole stay. Babies should not be accepted in luxurious environments. I went to Birks for peace and found war. Not enough personnel: we waited a long time before being offered seats, even though many seats were available. Worst of all: the ladies room was untied, missing paper, paper on the ground, waste bin overloaded. Sad."

  • "Had a great afternoon tea at Birks Cafe with my sister. Food was tasty and well presented. Have been to tea at the Five Diamond Langdon Hall in Ontario and the food here was as good, however, Birk's Cafe is more of a French tea than an English tea. I knew that ahead of time and I was okay with it. Highly recommend the Marco Polo tea from Mariage freres."

  • "Lovely spot for business or Ladies-who-lunch. Overpriced but if that doesn't bother you, go for it. And there macarons are worth the splurge."

  • "Truly a lovely experience. The waiter served us tea along with a three small sandglasses, which would allow us to time the steeping of our tea to light (3 min), medium (4 min) or strong (5 min), depending on how we preferred it. As for the food served, the waitress (we were served by two people) detailed every piece that she had put before us. She invited us to eat them in a certain order, from the most salty item to the sweetest, which I felt was a very nice touch."

  • "Everything was almost perfect except for the fact that we had to ask twice for the menu. t was as if they did not have enough peersonnel on the floor I have been there 3 times for high tea and this situation never occured. So I was a bit surprised. The service wwas a little bit slow and normally this is not something I do notice."

  • "Sandwiches and canapés were great, desserts on the sweet side. Scones would have been better if they were a little warmer and accompanied by rose jam. The size of the cafe warrants an ambiance on the quiet side, great place to catch up with friends over tea and snacks. On weekends they only operate until 5pm and tea service starts at 3, do expect to be politely asked out around 5. My group of 6 was satisfied overall, almost half of the teas on the menu were not available during our visit which was a bummer."

  • "Went there for mother's birthday and ordered the Afternoon Tea. The tea selection on the menu was cut down by half, but we all found a tea to our liking. Food was very good, but would have preferred more balanced selection of salty/sweet, as there were a bit too many sweets for my taste. Service was very nice and curteous, but the whole relaxing 'afternoon tea' experience was cut short when staff turned down the lights at 4:55 PM and informed all clients that they were closing at 5:00 PM and we had to leave (there were at least 20 guests left). We all felt "herded out" by the store staff to the exit (albeit with a friendly smile). I doubt I will be returning there for Sunday for afternoon tea."

  • "When it comes to any cafe or restaurant, for a foodie, the most important thing is the taste of the food: so the chef, his team and his recipes are the top priority. If this was my first afternoon tea experience, maybe I'd be a little impressed, however I have been to Hong Kong's best hotels like the Intercontinental, Shangri-la, Peninsula, Ritz in Grand Cayman Islands (really good afternoon tea), and the Four Seasons in Toronto (one of my favorite afternoon tea). Therefore I will compare and unfortunately, I won't be going back to this Cafe. To the Europea team: on a good note, I have very much enjoyed the dining experience at your restaurant...just not so much the dessert pastries of the afternoon tea at Cafe Birks."

  • "They do an excellent job, very attentive staff but food is very average. It looks and taste reheated and the selection is limited. Under Europea's standard Go for Thea and scone but not lunch"

  • "We discovered this little gem on the 2nd floor of the Birks store. It was such a nice peaceful beautiful ambiance, perfect for teatime. The Afternoon Tea menu was delicious, from the Scones, to the Mariage Frères tea, to the flavorful and delicate macarons. The service was excellent. It is surely a wonderful spot to have tea. We'll be back!"

  • "Nice experience as tea room is located in an unusual place. Excellent food for the part but more average level concerning deserts. Tea are good but not exceptional. Service was fair : waited lomg for water....had to ask twice for bill.....no proposal to bring more hot water..... Little bite disappointing in such a place ! We had a nice time overall but wont come again."

  • "Birks Café is simply fascinating. The building last from the year 1894, so the scene offered to the visitor is sublime. I went there to try the famous afternoon tea. Between 2:30 and 6:30PM, the dining room is full. You must have a reservation. The cutlery is clean, great and each service has it's own spoon. The british style is here. It's a pleasure to take time; time to eat, time to breath and good time with your guest. The service is efficient and professional. On the afternoon tea menu, you only have to choose your tea (8-10 excellent choices). On the plates, the Europea team serves you 2 scones per person with Devonshire cream and jam, sandwiches (Birks, cucumber and shrimp as well as smoked salmon), chocolates, sweet deserts in a jar."
