Diner Reviews
  • "Right on the square, the outdoor seating area is nice. The menu is the strength of this place-- very creative with lots of interesting twists. The humus has a little bight to it, the rabbit pot pie had a homestyle flair, and we were fighting over the fries. Best to show up hungry since you'll want to polish off every bit."

  • "The chef was kind enough to create a kid plate with french fries and shredded grilled chicken they use for salads. Chicken had good flavor but dried. They have highchairs but no kids menu, odd! It's a great scenery and location, nice patio. Food was okay, nothing to rave about. They only have beer that they make from brewery, which is good but sometimes people just want a budlight, a shiner... We had reservations and still had to wait about 15 min till I went inside to remind them as they were sitting walkins down with no reservation "inside"."

  • "Great experience. Very cool building with a great patio, we tried several of the small plates (meant for sharing) and enjoyed all of them. We especially liked the poached pear salad and the seared sirloin skewers with kimchi."

  • "I love the diversity of food here. Truly enjoyed the Blueberry Cobbler, the Ahi Sticks, and the Poached Salmon salad. The roasted roots were a bit too much for me. I think it was the eclectic nature of the veggies."

  • "Bird Cafe is where the Flying Saucer used to be and I definitely think it's a change for the better. It's the most unique restaurant I've been to in sundance square. The service and staff were friendly and attentive from the moment I walked in the door. Food and drinks were delicious! I have to go back and try more! The Bird Mule is a must and I really enjoyed the shrimp and jalapeño grits. I recommend this to locals and people visiting from out of town."

  • "We went with a group. This is a share plate restaurant. They had food to please our meat lovers and vegans alike! We all got 1-2 items and everyone went home full and happy. Food was wonderful, service was great!"

  • "We have been a few times and sat outside. Every time has been fun, relaxed, good tapas like food and excellent people watching. We decided to have an early brunch last Sunday - they open at 10 which we love. The food was outstanding. The waiter was nice and knowledgable. The prices were not too high. We will be back!"

  • "As a fan of Meddlesome Moth, when I heard about Bird Café's opening in the heart of downtown Fort Worth, I knew it was worth the drive over to Fort Worth for the morning. The former Flying Saucer location has been revamped into a historical, yet quietly trendy restaurant that is sure to please. Expect the same 5 star service and great eats as Meddlesome moth and some similar entrees. We had lunch (Grilled Cheese and soup, Chicken Salad sandwhich, hummus), and will definitely be back for brunch this summer. It sounds like a great stop over on the way to the Botanical Gardens or the Zoo."

  • "Wonderful addition to the Sundance Square line up. I loved the "Tapas" style dishes for sharing. Excellent choices across the board. The Humus was good and the Pavlova was outstanding! Good ambiance and the patio will be a great spring/fall gathering place."

  • "Brunch on the patio was wonderful. Our reserved table was ready for us on arrival, and we were seated immediately. Food was very good -- each of our party of six ordered a different entrée, and everyone was quite pleased. Bird Café is a delightful way to enjoy Sundance Square!"

  • "Really enjoyed the ambiance, atmosphere, and food choices. We were a couple celebrating an anniversary. I think this menu is much more suited to groups to share the choices. There were a number of groups of 4-8+ having dinner this Saturday evening. The only downside for us was the noise level and especially irritating because a group next to us had a couple of female 30 somethings who for some reason could not speak without a cackle/laugh at the end of each statement. May have been nervous energy but very irritating when you are trying to have a conversation with your dinner guest(s). Need acoustic panels to control the noise level."

  • "Great menu choices, nice ambiance. Chopped shrimp and crab salad was delicious. Mussels were very good but they were a bit small. We tried the "pea guacamole" and it was a nice change from the normal. One disappointment...., we made a reservation through Open Table and even though our lunch reservation was quite early the put us right near the kitchen door. I had hoped with a reservation we might avoid getting a poor table. It was remedied when I asked to change and we sat were moved upstairs which has been renovated and quite nice, but did not have the energy of the first floor. Still really enjoyed Bird Cafe and will certainly go back!"

  • "Love the variety of choices and haven't had one bad dish yet! We ordered the quail at the end of January and it came with a celery root made as mashed potatoes. This week we had the same quail but it was with a sweet potato cornbread which was great as well. Love the variety between seasons and makes you want to go back more often to see what's updated!"

  • "First experience at Bird Café was overall positive. Seating on the outdoor patio overlooking Sundance Square is very pleasant; menu is very unusual for Fort Worth - small plates, mussels, a few "entrée-sized" items. Five preparations of mussels on the menu and we tried the Belgian - although cooked and seasoned to perfection, mussels themselves were the size of black beans - really tiny - and not worth the money or effort to eat. We ordered Pig & Fig small plate which was excellent and each a salad - cobb salad large and fresh; crab and shrimp salad also large and fresh but lacking in dressing - addition of olive oil helped. Wine list is good and there is extensive beer menu; Bird's Nest - outdoor deck overlooking Sundance Square a plus"

  • "We had a table of four first- timers with Bryce as our food guide and we had a delicious and fun evening diving into an array of dishes with many helpful recommendations by Bryce. The pace of service was perfect and made for a leisurely ,delicious, and conversation-filled evening with an eclectic array of dishes . The bangers and mash name belittles the artful presentation of that magnificent plate! Can't wait to go back and try every bowl of mussels they offer. Yum for the Belgian! We finished with two desserts cause we couldn't choose between the blueberry cobbler or carrot cake ."

  • "Bird Cafe was a delightful surprise in downtown Fort Worth. The idea of shared dishes creates a great dining experience that was not overly expensive, with a great wine list. I will definitely recommend Bird Cafe to my friends and business colleagues!"

  • "Great job retaining the ambiance of this historic building. We were seated upstairs. Wooden floors, stain glass windows, exposed brick walls, artwork, gave an old-world feel - but the menu is anything but. The cocktails - Fitzgerald and a Sazerac - were made with fine ingredients, like we'd make at home. Beet salad was fresh and crisp, Belgian mussels were so good that we used the French bread to soak up extra sauce. Ahi tuna skewers were seared just right with lots of flavor and a little kick from the jalapeños. Fried avocados - off menu - with chipotle sauce was executed flawlessly. Outside crisp and flavorful, while the avocado inside the shell retained it consistency. Add friendly, unhurried service and it's an instant favorite!"

  • "Tried many things. Overall the food was good. Interesting dishes and most of them worked. Outside seating is nice. Disappointed by the collard greens, steak pot pie and waitress. She was rude. Overworked but still kinda rude. I'd give it another shot."

  • "Location is great. At night, you can really see fort worth at its best on the bird cafe patio. The food on the regular menu is based on a small plates, shareable idea that encouraged us to try things we might not have tried otherwise. That said, it also had us trying server recommended things we just didn't like, but still paid for, even when we let our server know. So pick wisely. Now for brunch, this spot shines. They have a really concise menu of GREAT food that still had us passing our plates around so everyone could try the stellar bacon waffle, short rib hash, and this amazing dense, cakelike biscuit topped with etoufee, a creole masterpiece. Service was fantastic, though not always fast, the place is huge. Overall, it's a must try!"

  • "Our experience at The Bird Cafe had high and low spots. Loved the interior design and deco. Food was visually appealing and delicious, but the service was painfully slow on all aspects. Our waitress had all of the tables outside, our table was the only one she had inside, which made for extremely long wait times. Would definitely eat there again, but only after assuring that the waitstaff could accommodate us in a more timely manner."

  • "The Bird Café is delicious! The menu is unlike anything I have ever seen anywhere. It is all meant to be ordered to share, which is really fun. The Bacon Lollipops on the Funnel Cake were absolutely delicious and their hummus was spicy and perfect. Our waiter Bryce was the best waiter I have ever had the pleasure of dining with. He kept us laughing the whole time and was super attentive. Make sure and make reservations ahead of time, this place fills up."

  • "As the restaurant's approach is to offer small plates, you are best going with a companion / group that is comfortable sharing and passing plates around. While there is a section of the menu for those who 'don't share', the best stuff is on the passable plates. Food was excellent, very good craft beer selection, and the wait staff took good care of our group of six. Definitely recommend."

  • "Great place. Really interesting menu items and great service. This is a "share plate" place, so go there with a generous heart. If you don't like to share with your table then they have some non share selections too. Large wine list so there is no problem with paring and they have some really good prices on their bottles so you can pick out several varietals to go along with your order."

  • "The Bird Cafe is a new favorite. My husband and I went for a date, but we saw several small groups of people who looked like they were having a great time too. Most of the food is served on shared plates, so you can order a few things and try them all. There are also a few plates that are "for those who won't share." As much as I love the shared plates idea, some of the single plates look like they're worth being stingy for. We had the Lamb Skewers and Carrots and Root Vegetables and loved them both! We probably could have ordered another plate or salad, but decided to have dessert at home instead. The beer list is short, but great! We wish they carried Rahr, but there were other interesting beers- all craft and both local and not."
