Chef-Proprietor Burton Joseph operates his contemporary supper club in The Buckhorn tradition. Ingredients are locally sourced and menus are seasonal. Please dress up or dress down. • "Good food, great service, not too noisy, nice to sit outside."

  • "Great find. Have come here severals times and it is always great"

  • "Birch's is a nice break between the local "lake" restaurants and the traffic jeopardy of 394 into Mnpls. Tuesday is our favorite night to be there, as their half-price wines (the list is short but a deal is a deal...) and the oyster specials bring us back all the time. Their menu is creative, and provides variety without going to extremes. If I had ten restaurants to go to before I died, I doubt Birch's would make the list. If I had 100, I'd go there...on a Tuesday!"

  • "Service, atmosphere and food (except a bit salty on the scallops) was all in all a lovely dining experience."
    Dined on 8/10/2014
  • "Food good - staff pleasant - waitress too fast - brought soup with salad and main meal before salad completed. she needs to be more aware. She was rushing us with cocktails - ordering and serving - it became irritating."

  • "Second time at Birches. I really like the smaller venue, and the food is good. We will be back again."

  • "We had Sea Bass tacos and a half rack of Baby Back Ribs. Both were outstanding. The ribs were nearly fall off the bone with a great dry rub (have the sauce on the side - you probably won't need it). It was great to have fish taco's with something besides talapia or "mystery fish"."

  • "Have been to Birch's twice in the past week. If you live in Plymouth, you know there are few eat worthy restaurants in this area, and wanted to make sure this one was the REAL DEAL. Consistently great, unusual food on both visits. We ordered oysters, walleye, truffled shrimp, steak frites, portobello sandwich, Brussel sprouts...wide variety of terrific food. The bread basket is a little wimpy, but the guys didn't seem to mind. And, I'm super picky...so, if that's the only fault I can find.."

  • "I read the reviews and was not sure if I was going to find a very nice restaurant or a poor service over priced food local dinner. I can see why the two extremes. I am just not sure what they want to be. We had their entrees and Buckhorn Chicken. The lamb dish was good, could use a little more seasoning and the chicken was done very well, crisp moist and lightly seasoned. The tables were set like a nice restaurant but the service was not what you would expect in a nice restaurant and they were wearing jeans or jean shorts. It was also odd the bus boy serving the dinners. The restaurant is small and has a fairly large bar in the middle. If you want a nice restaurant this likely isn't your best choice."

  • "Cooked perfectly! Caesar uneven, romaine should have been separated. Scallops best I've had -- perfectly sautéed. Cauliflower puree a bit watery, needed something to make it standout and bind it."

  • "We took some friends to Birch's on Saturday evening. I'd made reservations, and the table was waiting for us when we arrived. Everyone was very friendly, and our waiter had a nice sense of humor. The place was busy with positive energy and I saw many good-looking plates pass by while we waited for ours. We ordered the zucchini fries appetizer. Delicious! Among us, we chose walleye, scallops, lamb and chicken. They were all very good and none of us was disappointed. I loved the warm and cozy atmosphere. Birch's reminds me of a Wisconsin supper club with the white table cloths and intimate neighborhood feel. Do take a sweater or jacket; the AC was really turned up and I was freezing. But we'll go back."

  • "Brunch was $30 per person. That being said, the selection and quality were worth the money. While the ambience is so so, it is clean and the day we were there, quiet, even though it was full. We will definitely return. "

  • "Very disappointing. Way overpriced for food selection and quality."

  • "Great place to eat. My wife loved the food. Birches had a large selection and it was all good. The service was great. The meal came with a complimentary Champaign with orange juice mixed in. "

  • "Made a reservation for Birch's on a whim for Mother's day brunch, all of the food that was prepared was great especially the muscles, normally I stay away from sea food at brunches due to it being under or over cooked, but the muscles served during brunch where both packed with meat and cooked properly. Thank you Birch's for providing a great brunch for Mother's day as it made me look like a genius."

  • "We're were looking for a new place for brunch. The restaurant description made it seem like t had a view of the lake but it's across the road and blocked by buildings. Other than that, the food was axing for a brunch - walleye fingers, seared tuna salad, great cuts of meat, etc. smaller location so I think the chef takes advantage if being able to cook specialty foods. Had the usual omelet and French toast as well, so good enough for the kids. Super nice staff. Great experience altogether. "

  • "We had reservation on a Saturday night and it took nearly an hour of waiting to get seated after our arrival. The owner came over and gave a very genuine apology and bought us an appetizer. Normally, I would be furious at this point, but once inside Birch's, you can tell that it would be difficult to time tables as there just aren't very many! The food was exceptional. Absolutely exceeded my expectations. I will return again and again. Even with the unexpected wait, I still rate this restaurant with 5 stars because it was that good. "

  • "I liked the atmosphere and the service was very good. The food was really nothing to write home about and I didn't think it was worth the price. I had the salmon which was a little overcooked and there was maybe a 1/4 cup of quinoa salad with it and had no flavor. Birchs is basically not really different than many other mediocre restaurants so it doesn't stand out. "

  • "Tuesday is half-price bottles of wine, along with oysters on the half shell. Nice variety of mid-priced entrées, small plates, burgers, and a handful of bigger, expensive ($30+) dishes. Very nice list of desserts, but the Chocolate Lava Cake wasn't your typical crisp cake with "lava" inside but a piece of cake on top of some lukewarm chocolate sauce. The real kicker was that it cost $10.00! We ate less than half the dessert, informed the waitress that it wasn't very good, and then saw the price on the receipt. Yes, I should have made a bigger issue of it. My only other gripe is that they only have one IPA -- Surly Furious -- but at least that's a good one. Wines are entry level-to-mid quality, but reasonably priced."

  • "Went at 5:00 on a Saturday evening and had our choice of seating. Server attentive, quick and friendly. Bread served warm with whipped butter. A half portion of shoestring onion rings with horseradish dip was tasty and plenty enough for two. Salad of fresh Iceberg with prosciutto and blue cheese dressing was delicious. Enjoyed main entrees of cracker breaded walleye/mashed potato/grilled asparagus and seared Scottish salmon/quinoa that were both as good as they looked. Bread pudding with cinnamon whipped cream was fabulous. Ambiance was quiet except for Motown which was playing at moderate volume overhead. A thoroughly enjoyable experience which both of us highly recommend."

  • "Nice enough table setting. Service was rather inattentive. Variety of food choices, variety of satisfaction in said choices. Onion rings and chicken were very good. Other guest was not pleased with their meal. That said, not a lot seems to stand out. I am not sold that I should return to Birchs. "

  • "We eat here almost every week and enjoy every meal. This time I ordered the special sea bass and it was amazing! They make great cocktails and have a nice wine list also. Desserts are always something to look forward to!"

  • "This is the first time EVER that we chose to eat out on Easter Sunday. I looked for a restaurant that was serving leg of lamb because that is our tradition. Birches came through! The buffet was lovely and the lamb was fine. No mint jelly, though."

  • "Birchs is fairly small but nonetheless put on a sophisticated and varied buffet menu. The young servers were friendly. My cafe latte was excellent."

  • "Expected more for $30.00, the lamb seemed dry, and the selection of other items seemed sparse compared to other brunch's I had been to. We arrived at 10 am and some of the food was still coming out of the kitchen while we were eating. "

  • "We love everything about this place...cocktails, food and the positive energy from the bar to the adjoined dining area. Staff is top notch as well. It's in our "favorite places" rotation."

  • "We found Birchs on Open Table and decided to give it a try. It is a small restaurant with a broad menu of small plates, pizza, burgers and pasta. We tried the rib appetizer, the fried chicken and the pizza of the night. The chicken and pizza were good, but nothing that blew us away - the ribs were great because of the smokey bbq sauce, which i would go back for again. They had a good special that night (1/2 price bottles of wine) which was a bonus. You could tell this is a neighborhood place, everyone was waving and saying hi to other dinners and the bar crowd was friendly with the servers. Overall, we liked it and would go back again for a casual dinner night - maybe once it's nicer out and we can sit on the large patio."

  • "The food and service at Birch's is always consistent. The servers are friendly and the food specials are always fresh and creative. The uniqueness of this restaurant is that you can sit down as a single diner and feel welcomed. Birch's has an eclectic clientele, family friendly as well as a great place for a date night. A very energetic atmosphere."

  • "Hadnt yet been this local eatery as it's a bit out of the way. Happy to find a local restaurant with good food and great service . I ordered scallops which were excellent and my wife ordered fish tacos which were a bit fishy tasting. The restaurant was busy and crowded yer the noise level is not bad and the service friendly and efficient.. I would definitely be willing to give this restaurant another shot and recommend it to a friend.."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "The restaurant is not well lit, rather dark. Several tables face the doors to the kitchen, and every time they swing open, which is often, bright annoying light blasts out on diners. Oh man was it aggravating. I may have been sat at the table they reserve for OpenTable clients."

  • "Wow - Birchs featured a terrific special menu for St Patrick's Day. My husband enjoyed the corned beef & cabbage while I thought the lamb stew was excellent, with tender meat & vegetables and a tasty sauce. Place was not rowdy so we enjoyed visiting with friends over the great meal and cocktails. Burt & Ashley always make us feel welcome."

  • "We enjoyed our food. The Fettuccine Bolognese and side of Brussels sprouts were both very good. Nice choice of wines by the glass. The owner was not very welcoming on our arrival, ignored us to answer the phone first and talk to some other people. Server was not very attentive or informative, either - she mainly just stopped by if we beckoned her over, but didn't check in about the food or any other needs. Could use some additional attention to maintenance as well. Tablecloth was dirty on the corner when we sat down - they evidently replaced the paper over it, but not the tablecloth itself. Garbage overflowing in the bathroom. We'll probably give it another shot, but hope to have better service next time."
