Diner Reviews
  • "Entirely too hot and too noisy but service and food fantastic. Ribeye was absolutely incredible. But if I had paid outside of travelling deal, would have been a bit dissappointed due to heat. Boyfriend was dripping sweat."

  • "Great food and great service ! A must see and try !!!"

  • "The food was good but over priced for the portion size."

  • "Service was excellent. Food was delicious--sometimes I feel that restaurants overreach a bit and make things a little more fussy than they need to be,and that may have been a bit true here, but everything we ordered tasted delicious. Service was friendly and not pretentious or condescending at all."

  • "Food was flavorful, different and very fresh. Decor is elegant yet very comfortable. The poached lobster app was to die for. We loved the snowy grouper and NY Strip. (Skip the sauce they put on it though.) Wine selection is perhaps best in town and viewable on an iPad. The wine cooler makes up a whole wall in the main dining room and adds a lot to the experience as well."

  • "Another excellent dinner. I'm glad we made reservations well in advance because the place was hopping. Service was friendly and our meals were terrific. I always order the Dayboat fish and have never been disappointed. Others in my group ordered the tuna (special that evening) and said it was very good. We went up to the rooftop bar after dinner but it was too crowded for our tastes."

  • "Not what I expected after first visit which had been great. Female bartender at rooftop bar was rude. Service inside was extremely slow and manager had to bring the bread basket. Could have been an off nite but not sure I'll return."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "I love food, I had the duck and my wife the tuna. It was all just okay. It wasn't bad, but wasnt amazing. For the price, I was looking for amazing. I'm not hard to please, so I may return and try again. Drinks were a bit over priced, but that speaks to the class of people you market to. Cool place though."

  • "The Birch and Vine is an absolutely wonderful restaurant addition to bustling Beach Drive. The atmosphere and service were spot on. The menu choices were plentiful and every dish we had was prepared perfectly and was thoroughly enjoyed. Delicious! I need to try their lunch and brunch menus now!"

  • "I booked online and mentioned that it was an anniversary. Also mentioned it to the hostess. No acknowledgement of the anniversary was made the whole evening. The restaurant was noisy; however, we did go to the roof or 'Canopy" before the dinner and that was very pleasant. Our waiter on the roof was Curtis and he was the best service we had all evening. Love the duck egg touch."

  • "The best food in the city. The service is slow, but the ambience and vibe is such that you don't mind."

  • "We had been waiting to try this place and it exceeded expectations!! Loved every dish. Service was professional and responsive without being overbearing. Can't wait to return."

  • "WE GREATLY ENJOYED THE BAR LOUNGE ON THE ROOF MORE THAN THE RESTAURANT AND WILL GO BACK AGAIN FOR LUNCH OR BRUNCH."

  • "This was our second time at the Birch & Vine and even better than our first. I would order nothing but appetizers but that would deprive me of the choices for main course. We split the steak tartare and the fried oyster spoons for starters and both were wonderful. My wife had the maple duck breast over risotto and I had the special halibut. Each dish was perfect. We finished with cappucino and shared the sorbets. Our waiter who told us the manager is his wife was professional, friendly and his advice was spot on. I enjoyed the house Old Fashioned and a glass of pinot nowe from Oregon that worked great wtih the halibut."

  • "Awesome! The menu, the service, and the location are all over the top. Very nice selections that suit all tastes. Nicely done seafood. Terrific charcuterie/cheese and adequate wine options. A "can't go wrong" option in a highly competitive area."

  • "I'd been wanting to try this place for a while so my birthday was a perfect occasion. It lived up to my expectations. The original reservation was for a party of 4:00 at 6:45. I called the day before to change it to 6 (people) but they thought I meant 6:00 so when we arrived at 6:45 there was a potential problem because they'd given our table for 4 away. It took only moments for them to resolve it by putting us in one of their private rooms. Service was impeccable and the manager dropped in twice to make sure everything was OK. I had a very nice pasta dish (just a tad overcooked) and my husband had scallops which he loved. We'll be back."

  • "We were very excited to finally dine at the Birch & Vine. As the evening went along we were consumed with disappointment. Every food item from appetizers to dessert had a fantastic presentation; however, the food had either no flavor or a odd combination of flavors. Except for the blueberry dessert; it was excellent. Our server (John) was a true professional. He made every effort to make the evening enjoyable. There were just elements that were out of his control; the kitchen. Along with the dessert the wine list was also in their favor. Dessert and wine may be the way to go for the Birch & Vine."

  • "I highly recommend the Birch & Vine for a great dining experience. The menu was varied. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was excellent, attentive, and accommodating. The ambience is perfect - both in the bar area and restaurant. It is definitely one of the best restaurants in downtown St. Petersburg."

  • "Birch and Vine was a pleasant dining experience on our wedding anniversary. The service was excellent and the food was good. I especially liked the curry chicken soup and wine. My entree, veges, pasta, and salmon, was okay, but very heavy and far too much food. Perhaps I wasn't very hungry. My husband said his steak was very good. We'd go again, for sure."

  • "go to the Rooftop or the dining room or both for a special treat. In the dining room our service was great and our food was delicious (we ordered many appetizers for our later evening meal) and each we delicious - a tapas treat. a trip to the rooftop is also in order. a beautiful and lively way to get a special view of St Petersburg. Definitely a recommended evening"

  • "To loud to dine with more than two. The Canopy was disappointing Not elegant as we expected. It was too crowded and we didn't think the clientele was age or dress appropriate. We are 50 and didn't fit in."

  • "Great scene, very good service, and very good food."

  • "We went to The Canopy for drinks before dinner - wonderful views from the rooftop of St. Petersburg's waterfront! We had a fantastic dinner with a great bottle of wine to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The food was wonderful - Steak cooked perfectly. Fresh caught snapper was devine. The service and dining experience was a cut above! Thank you for having black linen napkins for my black dress, not white! I only wish the tables had linen table cloths. Most people were dressed in coctail type clothes - THANK YOU! We will be back again soon."

  • "My wife and I visited Birch & Vine for the first time this past Saturday (June 21). It certainly will not be our last. The restaurant is now one of my favorite four or five in our area. The combination of amazing service, a wide variety of supurb wines at reasonable prices, and food that (as noted above) is certainly "fit for foodies" sets it apart from most. It was on the expensive side - probably about $180 for both of us, but worth every penny. My wife and I started with a unique mojito and a delightful vodka drink from the iPad-tpe menu, and then selected an amazing - both complex and light - Italian Pinot Grigio. Carol had an unusual meatloaf and I had a duck combination appetize and the a seafood special. 2 amazing desserts to end."

  • "We went to the Birch and Vine to celebrate our anniversary and we liked it very much. We started with drinks at The Canopy (rooftop bar) - $11 drinks and a wonderful view. Then dinner in the restaurant. We shared an appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 glasses of wine for about $100. The food was great. There are a lot of great seafood options, though not many vegetarian choices. The service was great, too - friendly and attentive. The restaurant was pretty loud (it was full when we got there). We liked it and will go back for a special occasion."

  • "Our evening began with drinks and sunset views over the downtown St Petersburg waterfront. We were then given a private room for our little dinner party celebrating a 68th Wedding Anniversary. Server Chris Fox was professional & knowledgeable about the menu & preparation of various dishes about which we inquired. We requested French music & we're rewarded with classic Edith Piaf, setting the mood for the delicious dinner, wines, dessert & ambiance of our evening of perfection!"

  • "Fantastic combination of taste and creativity. The dining room was too loud however; they need noise-dampening walls, floors or ceilings."

  • "Good time with friends on their 33rd anniversary but food was only OK, overly expensive for what we got. Will recommend for special occasions to enjoy the roof top patio"

  • "When we sat down, we were handed an iPad to chose our drinks. We were happy to find wine from the Sancerre region in France. When the waiter, Matthew, gave us our daily choices for specials, we both smiled largely at the fact that Alaskan King crab was just flown at 3p that afternoon. We ordered the cheese plate for an appetizer which had goat's milk blue cheese and a couple other very good selections. My wife ordered the scallops which were serve red on a bed of truffle grits and edamame that was muy delicioso! I ordered the Hanger Steak with chimichurri sauce. It was awesome. We had the crab legs on the side. This was an excellent experience and Matthew was fantastic!"

  • "I went here for my 5 year anniversary and it did not disappoint! The food and service was amazing and the noise level was energetic, but not loud enough that carrying on a conversation was difficult. I would highly recommend giving this place a try!!!"

  • "This was our third time at Birch and Vine. Again the server was excellent. She was mature, knowledgeable, accessible, and accommodating to our needs. The menu choices were creative. The food was delicious."

  • "We had a slow start getting our table (restaurant was very busy) but the food & service was great once seated. And the restuarant management did a wonderful job of making our evening very very special!! We'll be back!!!"

  • "We ate outside and are only giving feedback from that experience. This restaurant was highly recommended to us by a couple people which prompted us to go for my birthday dinner. We were sat promptly which we appreciated. My disappointments include lack of knowledge of the food, improper cooking of the food and disappointment in the overall food. I ordered a salad and asked the waiter what kind of cheese it was... she described it as light. The cheese was very strong similar to the consistency and flavor of goat cheese. I ordered by lamb med-well and informed the waitress I was pregnant. The middle of the lamb was definitely medium and I was unable to eat that portion. The risotto with the lamb was very bland and I did not enjoy that. "
