Diner Reviews
  • "Food was tasty and well prepared with an interesting menu. It's what I'd expect to get in Sydney from a mid to high range restaurant. Service was good but as the restaurant is new (~4 months old in July '14) they still have a few teething problems but I wouldn't hold this against the overall experience. Will visit again."

  • "Great service and the food was delish! We dined upstairs and had the pork belly watermelon salad, followed by the fish curry and the ragu pappardelle, then shared the huge brownie & hot fudge sundae - all super fresh, lovingly prepared and super tasty! The best freshest produce - a real rarity in Waikiki!"

  • "The waiter seemed too busy to care about our table even though there seemed to only be four other parties there. They were out of the chocolate frappe, the edamame hummus starter, and the banana fritters. We were there at 1 so I don't think we were too terribly late. The waiter's reasoning for being out of the frappes was because they were out of chocolate sauce, which seems like it'd be pretty hard to run out of for a restaurant.. In regards to service, the waiter did not seem to care much about serving or our table. The food did not seem at all Australian to me outside of the pavlova, and it seemed overpriced for what it was. The ambience was nice, but was very hot despite the fans. Perhaps eating here for breakfast or dinner is better."

  • "The food is very fresh and tasty... You can tell they use premium ingredients."

  • "Off course the pancake was also excellent just as rumored. This restaurant has good and relaxed atmosphere. Undesirable, Japanese tourists will make a long line for breakfast shortly...."

  • "Went to Bill's Sydney early in the morning for a nice breakfast with family. The first order came out 10 minutes before any other, and it took another 40 minutes for two additional orders to come. When I spoke to the wait staff, they responded by saying that they had "no idea" what was happening in the kitchen. 5 minutes later, the manager showed up with two of the same dishes that were already received, reaffirming the incompetence. It took an additional 15 minutes after that to get the rest of the food out, and there was no consideration given by the management for the extraordinarily poor service and inconvenience. Save yourself from this experience. Do NOT eat at Bill's Sydney in Waikiki."

  • "What a let down if Bill Granger really has anything to so with this place I would get my name off the door. Booked on opentable 4 weeks ahead was seated at the worst table in the place the waiter threw me a coaster then a rude loud table of 14 was seated next to us in the already squashed space . The waiter looked embarrassed and didn't even flinch when he asked if we wanted dessert and we just said we are out of here . Just got coffee this morning from the cafe and that took so long it was joke . Bill if this is really you I would be taking my name and running for the hills"

  • "Very very pleased with our experience at this restaurant. Firstly we dined upstairs for dinner, then came back the next day to try the cafe below. Upstairs the service was friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. There was one small wait on a particular meal but we were fine with that considering how well the staff handled it. The meals were all very reasonably priced, and generous portions too. The flavours were wonderful too. Downstairs, the cafe had spot on coffee like we are used to back home- very hard to find in Hawaii! Lovely light fluffy pancakes and the service once again was prompt and very friendly. Would definitely go back."

  • "We went for an early dinner prior to getting a flight. The restaurant was almost empty. Ordered 2 main dishes. It took 45 minutes for them to arrive (and only did so once we told the waitress we had a flight to catch). When they arrived the dishes were cold. The Red Snapper filet was pretty tasteless. It was perched on top of a big lump of glue that was supposed to be mashed potato. Not pleasant. On the positive side both main were removed from the bill. I think it's about time Bill got on a plane to Honolulu and sorted this mess out. We weren't the only unhappy punters in that evening and I'm sure there wil be others who will decide not to return."

  • "need some trained wait staff, had to trade meals with daughter despite allergy alerts. staff had no idea of meals for dinner and breakfast a couple of days earlier although great food was poorly attended. Got my own water and cutlery and again no idea of menu inb detail"

  • "My wife and I stumbled upon this place for breakfast (Down stairs breakfast bar). The breakfast food and coffee were good and I liked the cool, casual atmosphere. Even though there was no one scheduled to direct new customers on "how to order" or "where to Sit" (Very Chaoitic and un proffessional) We decided to come back for dinner and try the "up stairs". Mistake. Short Story: We waited an HOUR AND A HALF for mediocre food in a half empty restaurant. The manager refused to even comp our drinks. They are clearly in over their heads."

  • "For a unique experience atmosphere try Bills. The food was spectacular and everything that was recommended to us was a hot. We pizza that a little kick and the curry fish which was full of flavor. The poke salad was wonderful as well. Even though there was no view the amazing atmosphere truly felt like you were in a warm and welcoming place with high ceilings and fun colors. I highly reccomend for those not looking for crowds and a unigue experience!"

  • "Very excited about going to a Bill Granger restaurant. The decor was great and the wait service brilliant but unfortunately the kitchen let us down. The shrimp entree was 5 under cooked prawns on a bed of lettuce with a bland sauce OMG reminiscent of a 1970's prawn cocktail! Couldn't have my preferred meal of fish as the kitchen had burnt the last two and no more available. Settled for the beef fillet but it was served cold and fat congealed. To their credit we were not charged for our mains. Think the kitchen was having an off night and teething problems as has only been opened for three months. We didn't stay for coffee or dessert. We'll give it another try when back in Honolulu next year. We also noted other unhappy diners."

  • "Food and service was great on first visit when only a group of six but different story on our second visit with a party of 11, so disappointing"

  • "Love Bill's for the corn fritters and the scrambled eggs. However these items are not available at dinner time. The dinner offerings were O.K. but nothing special. Will definitely go there again........ but not for dinner."

  • "We were seated at a table with the sun blaring down on our backs. We had zero service for 20 minutes, no water, no greeting, no nothing! When we finally waved someone down (the busboy) he appoligized and looked for a server. Apparently the two tables beside us have been waiting longer then we have and had no service. It was very disappointing because the food was delicious but the experience makes me NOT want to go again. Oh and did I mention a bunch of servers were standing around talking and eating, unbelievable!"

  • "Server was unorganized and took over 10 minutes to recognize and greet our table, it took even longer to consolidate check at the end of our meal. Server got our order wrong, as a suggestion repeating it back to your table would benefit both parties...we noticed he got the drink order wrong another table too. Server Assistants/Food runners walked past our table multiple times without bussing dirty plates even when the restaurant was slow. Once the staff got busy it was obvious they did not have a good flow, poor team work on the service side and lackluster food. Nice ambiance with the natural lighting and modern decor. However, the food was not well executed and the service was off the mark, I would not recommend this place to anyone."

  • "We took our goddaughters' and their friend (17, 18, 20 year olds) to lunch at Bill Sydney's in Waikiki after church. We wanted to take them somewhere hip with delicious food. From beginning to end, we were not disappointed. Our server was polite, gracious, and helpful with the menu. The three young people began bringing up pictures of food offered on the menu on their iPhones to help with their selections. We shared several starters like the salt and pepper calamari and a mushroom pizza. My husband and one goddaughter had the veal and pork ragu, and I had the parmesan crumbed chicken schnitzel. Our other goddaughter got the avocado and poke. We loved our meals and the whole experience was a home run with our multi-generational group."

  • "I thought the decor was really nice - very spacious and pretty. The food was good, service a little slow. The servers were all really nice, but it took a while to get things to the table. I'd give it another try as the dishes were interesting & tasty. "

  • "My coworkworkers and finally made it to Bills during one of our lunch breaks. The hostesses and our server were very warm and friendly. Ambience was great. We ordered the pancakes, corn fritters and a pizza. The pancakes were delish and a good size. The corn fritters were good. The pizza was interesting. I liked the dough but it was really soupy which is a little weird for pizza. Service was a little slow. But maybe if we had mentioned we were on our lunch break things would have been a little quicker. All in all it was a good experience and we will be back. "

  • "Ricotta Hotcakes for dinner a new favourite. Food not given five stars as Parmesan Chicken was only so-so though recommended by staff. Stick with hotcakes and fish curry"

  • "From the start the response we received was "NO". Do you have egg whites? NO. Can we substitute the meat for extra veggies? NO. The servers were very nice but did not check on us and our food took over 45 minutes, even though the restaurant was only half full! Finally when our food came out, the order was not correct! Also one should note the iced coffee was probably about 4 ounces and cost $4!! In the end, the oil used to cook our food was not a very high quality, as all in our party was ill after eating there. We will not recommend this place to anyone and we will not be back anytime soon!"

  • "The service personal was very attentive, helpful with suggestions and did their best to answer my questions. On the evening I was there I more or less had the balcony dining for me alone. I don't know why, it's lovely sitting outside being able to people/street watch from the elevated advantage point (the restaurant is on the first, not ground floor). The reataurant itself is done in a cool 50's look with a nice wood-vault ceiling and indutry chic pipes running along it. The Food was great! I had the kim chee fried nrown rice vegan style - very spicy!, the wild sea asparagus - crunchy and salty, if you've never eaten this before try it! And dessert was in batter fried bananas with ice-cream and honey - heavenly! Overall lovely experience! "

  • "Came here for breakfast and enjoyed their fresh and tasty menu. Had the corn fritters bc I love corn and it was delicious! The ricotta pancakes with honeycomb waffles are wonderful and served all day! I like their fresh juices and their easy going menu. The vibe inside feels like you're not in Hawaii which is nice to feel like you got away but without buying airfare. Some might think it's a lil pricey for breakfast food but I think it's great quality and actually not that bad pricing. I'd say typical for what you'd expect from the other popular Hawaii breakfast spots. Love this place and looking forward to checking out their dinner menu sometime soon! "

  • "Overall our experience was good. This was my second time and my husbands first. For drinks I had the house-made lemonade and the husband had 2 beers. The lemonade was refreshing and fresh. Do not order it if you like your lemonades strong in flavor and sweet. We ordered the zucchini fries (they were slices) and calamari. The zucchini fries were fresh, the dipping sauce was ok but after I added salt it tasted good. The calamari also tasted fresh but it was undercooked for my preference. I like my calamari crunchy. I had the Parmesan crusted chicken schnitzel with cream corn and fennel salad and the husband had the white fish curry. I enjoyed my dish but my husband said his was a little too rich (the sweet potatoes). "

  • "2nd time at Bills for dinner, 1st time was 10 days after the opening. More efficient service: runners specifically for the bar, food out very quickly. Salmon salad for starter - big piece of salmon, great greens. Chicken schnitzel with creamed corn and fennel slaw for main course - huge portion, creamed corn excellent, had to take 2nd piece home. Ricotta hotcakes with banana and honeycomb butter for desert - a meal unto its self. Really excellent. Ran out of the semillion which is too bad - best white wine I've had for a while. One note: they put coriander on a lot of things. Will remember next time to ask for none. Atmosphere is great - dim, but not too dark. Great attention to details. Comfortable but still stylish. Soon to be a gem."

  • "as Sydney siders who had a spent a week in Waikiki we were drawn to Bills for weekend breakfast as we were struggling with the typical US style breakfasts in Waikiki. We weren't disappointed by the food especially in comparison to other options. Not as great as Sydney Bills but to be expected as got to have a bit of the local twist. The fit-out was also awesome as per Bills usually style. The only thing that let it down was the service unfortunately, wasn't bad but wasn't great, but not enough to stop us from planning our next breakfast there... mmmm"

  • "I hope they are still working out their opening kinks. After a recommendation by a friend, we decided to try it. Five of us went on a weeknight for dinner, and the space itself is lovely and serene. The menu included some interesting takes on two favorites-fried zucchini & hummus/falafel/flatbread. Enjoyed the zucchini but the flatbread was like beef jerky and that dish fell flat. Suffice it to say the five entrees were only fair, despite their menu descriptions. Prices are ok, but unless they make changes, they won't make it here."

  • "Our first time here, and their Waikiki restaurant had only been open less than a month, but we were quite pleased. The food was really excellent in our opinion, at least the courses we had. The only negative was that where we were first seated was a little too warm, but they were able to move us closer to the outside, where it there was a lovely breeze. Worth asking to be seated either close to a window or outdoors on the balcony."

  • "We read the mixed reviews beforehand, so we we knew what to order. The four of us tried different dishes: ricotta pancakes, corn fritters, aussie breakie, and scrambled eggs and toast. We were all pretty happy with our selections although my now hard to please Dad thought the scrambled eggs were not egg-y enough. If there are only two of you, i would definitely choose among the first three i mention. Although the Aussie breakie is kind of like your "usual" english breakfast with meats, broiled tomatoes and cooked mushrooms (in this case miso-flavored!). The floor supervisor that day was excellent and the outdoor lighting in the upstairs restaurant made for great lighting and pics."

  • "I enjoyed this trendy new restaurant in Waikiki, it was also pretty reasonable and the food was plentiful good. I had the full Aussie breakfast, the sausage was very good and the eggs were fresh, but it was a little too moist. The toast was very toasty. However, I didn't care too much for the mushrooms though. We also at the pancakes, which is the best dish by far and the for sure highlight of breakfast meal. I will definitely come back for the pancakes for sure. "
