A word from Bijou Restaurant & Bar
Bijou Restaurant & Bar, will provide the East Bay with a chic new dining option. Bijou will showcase contemporary French/California cuisine, offered at reasonable prices. Bijou’s main dining room seats 80 guests, with space for 30 in the lounge and bar and 32 on the outdoor patio.

Prepared by Executive Chef Christian Nam-Hee using seasonal, fresh, often locally sourced, organic ingredients. Chef Nam-Hee, a native of France, graduated from the Ecole de Paris des Metiers de la Table in Paris. His career includes time at a number of elite French restaurants such as Le Grenadin (under 2-star Michelin Chef Patrick Cirotte), La Chaumiere and Le Bienvenue.

Bijou's bar specializes in creative mixology that bridges the gap between the kitchen and the bar. Taking fresh, seasonal produce and locally distilled, artisan spirits and creating amazing cocktails.

  • "We drove to Hayward from Sunnyvale because we had a deal: 3 course Prix-Fixe for 2 for $39. We bought 2 of these deals and double-dated. Worth the drive due to the price. But as a restaurant, it was average. Our server, Rachel, was excellent. Beet Salad was excellent. (A green salad with some fruits, cheeses, and a few beet sections, but they were actually good!) Dungenous Crab Croquettes disappeared before I could grab a nibble. Wife said it was delicious. Beef Short Ribs not memorable. Mahi Mahi which was incredible. Friends had the chicken and the other fish dish, which they devoured. Dessert: 3 creme broulee's (not good - very egg-y) and one coffee cheesecake which was very good. The complimentary champagne was tasty."

  • "Like the song this Bijou made me Blue. Noisy like a sports bar, most of the noise was coming from the bar which in turn made the dining customers a lot louder. Not a fine restaurant in that regard. Food was good, though the selection doesn't have any resemblance to an actual Bijou cuisine. The selection is also very limited and the difference between the small plates and the large plates seemed to be proportionally closer to equal than I expected. Severely misleading with definitely a French(ish) ambiance and the Bijou ambiance one might expect from the name. Will try again and I'm hoping to have a better experience."

  • "We received excellent service. We were using a local coupon, so we were limited to some choices. However, all the food was delicious, except the chicken. I prefer white breast portions, but wasn't given a choice - leg/thigh only. The only complaint I have is the noise level is really LOUD!!!! We sat in the back corner of the restaurant side, but the noise from the bar side was so loud I could barely hear the person seated across the table. I will definitely so back, but will try going during lunch hour."

  • "We enjoyed our meal. The Escargot was perfectly cooked, the sweet/regular Frites were great (The sweet potato especially). We enjoyed our salads as well, especially the pan seared goat cheese. The portions for small plates were generous. Two salads and four small plates was almost too much for two of us. The one drink we got from the bar was really good. On the downside-The baby back ribs were a little sweet and overdone, and the Beef Carpaccio suffered from too much parmesan cheese. The ambiance was nice and the service was excellent, attentive, but not intrusive. The only drawback to the place that it was quite dark and the print on the menu was very small. I had more trouble reading the menu than any other place I have been."

  • "The positives were many. Our server, Robert, was spectacular. He had a great up-beat bubbly personality, was engaging, and was just a major dude. Robert would easily be welcomed at any of San Francisco's finer restaurants and we were happy to tip based on the meal's full value. I have no idea who the chef is at Bijou but he or she can cook and the way they present food is first-rate. We had the mussels and tuna tartare for starters, tried salmon, the short ribs and the mahi mahi for main courses and finished with Bijou Coffee Cheese Cake and the Bijou Green Tea Macaroon Ice Cream Sandwich. All were excellent I think they should spend the time to sweep the front of the restaurant. I think $11.50 for a lemon drop is ridiculous."

  • "We are happy we stumbled upon Bijou. We live in Oakland & wouldn't have looked at a place in Hayward but my husband waited very late to get Valentine's Day reservations & this is all he found. We ended up not going that night but I was intrigued by the idea of a French place anyplace in the East Bay so we went another night. This is a very good, informal, French-influenced restaurant (this is not classic French cooking). The escargot was excellent. Caesar salad was bland but a very generous portion. The flatbread pepperoni was great. The mushroom puff pastry was very tasty, if a bit overcooked. Nice cocktail list & reasonable wine list. The service was excellent & it is VERY reasonably priced. We will definitely be back."

  • "The service was outstanding! Our server was very attentive. The food was good. The only negative I can think of is that my creme brulee dessert was way too sweet. Before ordering I asked the server if it was like a pudding and she said no, that it was like a tart, but it was pretty much like a pudding to me. Lol. It was good for the first 2 spoonfuls but it was too sweet and I couldn't finish it. The champagne was delicious! Overall, it was a good experience. I used an amazon local deal, which was pretty good, but I wouldn't return and pay full price for the package."

  • "based on the goggle seach....turned out to be more of an eclectic french-american fusion place. Which we enjoyed and we'll definitley be back! The Escargot was fabulous, the wings were the right amount of heat/sweet. The mixologist was amazing with some wonderful tea/gin creations. the "small" plates were not so small...we ordered 4 items thinking we'd be able to share, and get a full meal.....we were both stuffed! all in all I would recommend this place to anyone."

  • "We usually don't go out much, a couple of years ago, we passed and didn't go to Bijou because it was $60 per person on Valentine's. This time was a little less than that and I venture myself to make reservations. When we arrived, I noticed the beautiful hardwood floor but they either don't know how to clean it or don't have the right things to do so, it was dirty. However, the tables were very clean, big, and ready to go. Even with reservations we had to wait for a little while and we didn't know why since only about 5 tables were busy and ALL the rest were empty. Once we were at our table, the special Valentine's menu was easy to read and self explanatory. WE LOVED THE FOOD! A bit pricey so for us only for special occasions."

Wine and other spirits came with recommendations and did not fail to satisfy. We will be returning soon as we still have a Groupon to use.   • "The place looks like an airport lounge - the colors are horrible (chocolate brown and beige? Really?) But ignore the surroundings. The food is REALLY REALLY GOOD. Chef is ethnic Vietnamese and native of Paris, a magic combination. Pizzas are fantastic, thin crust and interesting fresh toppings. The menu is solid - no striving for weird daily innovations (why mess with success?) Nice idea of small plates / large plates: you can stuff yourself or get a variety of smaller things. Croissant pudding is gorgeous. A real gem in the Hayward/San Leandro/Castro Valley area. I live in perpetual fear that the chef will decamp..."

I've dined at the restaurant numerous times and have enjoyed a variety of the food items, from the small plates to a full dinner. My personal favorites have been: escargot, tuna tartare, lamb chops, rib eye & the list goes on. They don't skimp on quality nor freshness of ingredients. The cherry on top (for me) is that the service is equally as good as the food they put out. Bottom line, go and experience it for yourself."

Asian pear salad and crab salad were really good. Ahi tuna tartare was fresh and delicious. Margherita pizza and sea bass were also wonderful. Bijou is truly a gem! Combined with the chic ambiance, there was no reason to hustle all the way to SF. Can't wait to try their happy hour...the cocktail menu looks yummy."

  • "We were greeted by the friendly hostess and was immediately sat, although we were early for our reservation. Our server was polite and attentive. She relayed the soup of the day and their special and was accommodating of our special requests. She was able to answer all our questions about ingredients in regards to my food allergy and was knowledgeable of their cocktail, beer, and wine lists. The food was amazing! We shared some small plates and each had an entree. The stand out dishes were the ahi tuna tartare, the scallops and risotto, and the croissant pudding for dessert. Our cocktails were well-crafted at their full bar, which uses fresh fruit. The ambiance was lively, but very hip. Good looking staff with great attitudes."
