Bijou Cafehappy to have a real good mealThis is one of the local restaurants that I who has many food allergies is able to be served a fresh prepared meal. I was there with 3 others. Had wanted to introduce them to another restaurant since they are new to the area. 2 of the gals had the summer savory meal. One had the salmon and the other the southern fried chicken salad. With the crab bisque soup one had the choco cake and the other had the apple cobbler/cinnamon ice cream. which they both said was quite good. I had a freshly prepared veggie plate. Two of us had never been there before. The food was good, the service was excellent and we liked the ambiance and the art. I will definitely return!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDELICIOUS DELIGHTFUL DELOVELYWe were totally WOWED by this restaurant - having done just research on the internet to find a great place to eat in Sarasota - we never dreamed we would end up in the best place to dine. We were suppose to be 4 people; but due to a confusion in plans, ended up being only two .... we called and explained - the person on the phone said - no problem - we will still give you the same table we orginally reserved.
From the moment we walked in - to the minute we left we were treated like royalty .... . Wine selection was great - cosmos excellent .... duck liver pate, veal, duck, house speciality gratinee ...... all wonderful ... we are not dessert people, therefore we never looked at the menu. They took care of everything! Several of her friends are vegan and they developed some dishes just for them. They also had a fresh strawberry cake just for us! We were seated in their patio room which offered us privacy while she opened her gifts! We did snag one for Mother's Day and it was a memorable experience. The food was great, but you have to enjoy fine dining. There was a good selection of specials, both wine and food. It is a quite, upscale place with very good service. Service is exquisite, prompt, and polite! Menu is outstanding with specials of the evening clearly described in detail by servers and are always delicious. Food is always served hot! Servers are beautifully trained, extraordinarily polite, and they make dining at the Bijou a special occasion, even if it is not a special occasion in our lives. THE perfect place to dine before a performance at the Sarasota Opera House. The duck was simply perfection and the special fish (hogshead snapper) was delicious. Our salads were also very nice as was the dessert we shared. Fruit with whip cream (we chose the cold version). The ambiance is so lovely! The hostess was warm and welcoming also. I would say our waiter seemed to disappear at some point later in the evening. He was not overly attentive, but maybe that is the new thing these days! With reservations we were seated in the bar. Not what we had in mind. Wanting the main dining room we were told a 15 minute wait, we were 15 minutes early, but told no place to wait inside. "We walked outside where a few tables and chairs were, but rain earlier had dampened out chairs and our spirits. Within minutes one of the hosts came out with cushions so we could sit, then a suggestion of a drink on the patio which we choose to celebrate. With those two gestures our spirits lifted and we had an outstanding evening. The food was creative and cooked perfectly, the service was attentive, and we found a wonderful South African wine. The 3 people who ordered the duck had plenty leftover for lunch the following day. We informed the server that we had to be at a play at 9 (res was at 7) and we were on our way at 8:45.
