  • "I wanted to try a local place on our weekend in San Antonio and this establishment and it did not disappoint. The only negative was the time between appetizers and the main course was a little longer than I would have liked, but definitely not something to worry about as the rest of the service was very good and attentive. Other than this small snag, it was great. You pretty much can't go wrong with anything you order as everyone at the table loved their dishes. I had the lamb and it was excellent. If you want to skip the typical higher-end chains and try something local this is an excellent alternative."

  • "Went to Biga for 15th wedding anniversary. Requested a table for 2 by the window a week in advance. Seated at a 4-person table nowhere near a window. Water promptly filled after we were seated. The server explained some of the menu's features & favorites. We read the wine list (really great selections), and ordered wine & our meal. The sommelier stopped after we ordered wine, but was cordial. Biga has an interesting device that allows a glass to be poured from a highly rated vintage without actually uncorking the bottle, and the sommelier explained it to us. Very interesting. I had seared duck, and my husband had Axis venison & quail. Both were delicious. The staff was courteous, the decor was pleasant, & the food was great. I'd go back."

  • "Biga on the Banks was a wonderful experience for our party of 8. The service was outstanding - they really took care of us from the moment the first of our group arrived until after we had left when they called to let us know we left some medication behind. The food was excellent. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals - clean plates all around! We were lucky to order the Grand Marnier Souffle special which was out of this world. The malbec wine suggested by the waiter was a true find - really special. Prices are a bit high here, but worth it considering the quality of the chef and staff."

  • "My husband and I dined at Biga on the Banks while visiting Texas for a week-long conference/stay. We ate at many places but this by far was our favorite meal. I had the lamb and he had the venison and quail. both delicious with creative side dishes. Seek this place out for a fine dining experience. I found it as part of the Fork in the River food tour, which was also a delightful adventure."

The waiter was attentive and helpful, food deliciously prepared and beautifully served, and bottle of wine chosen was nice complement to the meal. Compared to most of the restaurants on the Riverwalk, Biga on the Banks stood out as a star. This was a great place to celebrate my wife's 52nd birthday."

  • "Dinner there with my spouse on a convention. Although it is "on the river", it is not a typical tourist river walk restaurant. Romantic and quiet, with excellent food, wine, and deserts. Small outdoor patio overlooks the river, but be aware that the views from inside are really not of the river walk itself...more of downtown San Antonio. That being said, it still manages wonderful atmosphere. Not really a kid-friendly environment, but more of a romantic quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the river walk."

  • "Wonderful meal. Loved the chicken fried oysters and venison. Service was excellent, waiter was well informed on food prep and ingredients. He was friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness. Really good range of menu choices and broad variety of ingredients. Extensive wine list. There was not a single miss on what we ordered, everything was excellent. Sitcky Toffee Pudding and Lemon Posset were irresistible and did not disappoint. Would happily return again and again."

  • "I am so glad that our group of six decided to go to Biga on the Banks before walking to our show at the Majestic. Our waiter, Chris, was absolutely phenomenal. He was very knowledgeable about the menus and all of his recommendations where outstanding. We all had different dishes but the venison, lamb, and red snapper were the biggest hits. OH and the spring roll appetizer was to die for! Biga does offer half portion entrees including their salads which ended up being plenty of food. For three bottles of wine, six entrees, three salads, two extra side dishes, and four mixed drinks, our total was $460.00 with gratuity included (about $150/couple). We will for sure be back again next time we are out in San Antonio for a nice evening!"

  • "My wife and I went to Biga for the first time this past Friday night and immediately were impressed. The décor along with the great views of the River Walk made it an instant hit with us. Our meals were amazing! The axis and quale entrée combination will make it very difficult for me to try anything else the next time go as it was that good and she felt the same way. We also tried numerous appetizer's and found each would make a great entrée on their own. For this and many other reasons we believe this to now be our favorite restaurant in all of San Antonio as well as Austin and everywhere in between as we frequent both equally. We are already planning a return trip with good friends in the immediate future!"

The service was beyond wonderful, the food was absolutely delicious, and they made sure to reserve a table at the window so we would have a nice view for our special dinner. They even gave us each a glass of champagne on the house for our anniversary and a little dessert on a decorated plate at the end. Wonderful all around!! We will definitely be back for another special occasion!"

Every aspect of the meal was flawlessly executed; I forgot how flavorful food could really be. The venison and quail dish had so much going on, it felt like a journey that you didn't want to end. I think I'll remember this plate, and the cornbread, for a very long time."

The restaurant was just fancy enough to make us feel like we were special, but down to earth enough to still feel like the food was a fun adventure (in other words, exciting, not snobbish). My mouth still waters at the thought of that Sticky Toffee Pudding and the yummy Axis and quail."

  • "My girlfriend and I went to San Antonio for a romantic getaway vacation and Biga On The Banks is definitely the best place we'd eaten in our entire time there. The food is undeniably delicious. 100% yum! Crab cake appetizer was tangy, very expressive with many layers of flavors, and really made our mouths water for the entrees. She had a smoked chicken over garlic mashes and an additional side of corn pudding. Nothing fell short of expectations, and she was very happy with her experience. The bites I stole were very pleasing to me too. I had no order envy though, for I prefer my more robust venison and quail plate with the goat cheese tart and an additional side of Spinach (tasted just like mother made :D ). Brulee was okay. Waiter = meh."

  • "We returned to Biga after a couple of years (we are locals). It was extremely disappointing. Excellent service from an accommodating server. But the food was from Sysco. We ordered a cheese plate (excellent), corn chowder, duck and chicken. The corn chowder was like Campbell soup with canned corn in it. The duck and the chicken were both tough and flavorless. We were shocked at being service what was obviously pre-prepared food at a place with Bruce Auden's reputation. If it was not Sysco pre-prepared then the kitchen made it that way. We kept thinking, Boy we should have gone back to Bliss."

  • "Biga never disappoints! Upon our arrival they seated us immediately, but it was extremely busy and I wanted to be outside for a more romantic feel. It was just a matter of minutes and we were reseated on their patio overlooking the river. We started with the foie gras on french toast and it was the perfect mix of sweet and salty. It's seared and not pate - great for a first timer. For my entree I had the mustard crusted lamb chops were amazing! Served on a bed of cheesy grits and I paired them with brussel sprouts. It wasn't heavy like most lamb I've had other places. Our waiter was Kasey and he was attentive, friendly and informative. Thank you for the best meal I had on my vacation!"

Wine list was extensive and the sommelier recommended one we'd never tried before. We were hesitant but turned out to be fabulous. Wait staff was fun and friendly but not overbearing or intrusive. Can't say enough good things, will definitely be going back!"
