The staff, ambience, food, and overall attention to detail was second to none. We have eaten at many upscale restaurants and this is in our top 3. Job well done!"

  • "On the Riverwalk. The view will be lovely once construction outside is completed. The ambience is very nice - sophisticated but comfortable. Service was prompt and professional with just the right amount of attentiveness. Very cold martini, as requested. I wish I had the recipe for the blue cheese dressing on the salad - mild, flavorful. The lamb, cheese grits, and asparagus was so delicious and perfectly prepared. The Axis and Quail was equally as good. Both are must trys. We paired with a house merlot, which was good. Raspberry sorbet at the end was sweet and tart and light and refreshing. Can't wait to return."

  • "We were seated by the window and may have been sitting there for 5 mins when I noticed a giant daddy-longlegged spider on the window sill right above/next to our table. When the waiter returned we asked if he could do something about the spider.. so he just reached over and tried to smash it with his napkin; he missed and it landed in the middle of our table. He then tried again and smashed it on top of the table. This is not appropriate for a "Fine Dining" restaurant. The waiter then went on to say that he understood why I was upset bc he has a wife and daughters-no apology for the fact that a spider was just on our table smashed. Later the manager came and was arguing that we shouldn't be upset. Not impressed and will never return! BEWARE"

  • "If you want a nice dinner on the Riverwalk, but away from the traps near the tourist destinations, this is certainly a spot to try. I had the venison and quail with Brussels sprouts and a couple of different Pedernales (Fredericksburg, TX) brews. Great wild game, but our dinner companions had tenderloin and chicken that each got high remarks. Excellent pairings and great atmosphere at Biga. Highly recommend."

  • "The reviews were right, the signature sticky toffe' desert was to die for. My husband and I did the 3 course meal. The soup was great and our entrees (salmon, w corn and whipped potatoes and pork tenderloin w tempura asparagus) was great. After tasting his meal, I liked mine (the salmon better) The restaurant staff was efficient and cordial. I hate having to look for a server....so, they always seemed to come around right on time!"

  • "Disappointed with food at Biga. Tough steak (they did take off the bill) and very salty potatoes and pork tenderloin. Scallops were under cooked. We assumed the chef was off for the 4th of July weekend:) We have eaten at some amazing places and wanted to try Biga on the Banks for a year or two. We decided on Biga for a big celebration but it was the worst meal of weekend. Sorry wouldn't go back too many other great choices in SA."

  • "Food was delicious and service was excellent. We had the lamb (WONDERFUL), quail and duck, squid pasta and oysters. Really enjoyed it. The breads were yummy and the spinach salad had wonderful flavors although overdressed I thought. Just really surprised by the prices for an upscale casual River Walk eatery. There were almost no options for entries in the $20 range. I think that explains why the restaurant was not crowded at all. Biga would have to go on my special occasion only list. Not a regular favorite when visiting San Antonio."

  • "Biga on the Banks has been a special occasion restaurant for us for many years but our visit on Monday evening was disappointing. The service was very good and we enjoyed a great bottle of Turley Rattlesnake Ridge wine. The salads were ordinary and our very expensive steak and pork tenderloin were both overcooked and tasteless. Maybe the "B" team is in the kitchen on Mondays but we expected much better based on cost and past experiences."

The whole experience was first rate; we were there for a special occasion, and the table they'd reserved was perfect - secluded in the corner with a great view of the restaurant and river. We had the rack of lamb and the scallops and both were perfect. The menu was inventive without being pretentious, the wine list was varied and had reasonable options, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We will be looking forward to going back."

  • "Craving seafood and steak, we decided on Biga based on the diverse menu offerings. From the succulent scallops starter to the sticky toffee pudding dessert, we were treated to sublime. My daughter's steak was so tender, she almost didn't need a knife. And the broth of the bouillabaisse had so much depth of flavor, I can't do it justice with words. Service was seamless, professional, courteous, and warm. Chris was a great ambassador for Biga on the Banks."

  • "I had been wanting to try Biga for sometime and since it was my bday dinner I decided to go. The choice was easily made based from coworkers who had gone. Our waiter Chris has been there since they opened 15 years ago and he was what a waiter should be. He was exceptionally friendly and he had a vast knowledge of the menu, the background of the restaurant and didnt give TMI. The ambiance was so casual and light especially for a friday evening. We had the Salmon Nachos to start. They were AMAZING! My main course was a 1/2 chicken (even though I think it was a whole) that was delicious. One thing I particually liked is they give you an option to purchase a half plate in case you want to share. I am definitely going back."

  • "We were there recently for a girl's night. Great service: staff was knowledgable and patient. I had the romaine salad to open which was simple but excellent. For main course, I had the close to boulliabase. It was perfect! Such subtle flavor and perfectly balanced. My friend commented that the lamb was excellent. Great cocktails and atmosphere. Will definitely return and recommend to others."

  • "I had an overall great dining experience at Biga. I was very impressed with the creative and flavorful menu. The ambiance was equally fantastic. The flavor of my ribeye was spot-on and one of the better steaks I've had. My only complaint is that everything was a bit 'heavy handed'. It could have been because it was a Wednesday evening...but the finishes on the dishes were all clumsy (too much butter/oil on the green beans and mashed potatoes, scallops under done, dessert overcooked and the "English cream" basically coming out as warm milk, dishes coming out WAY too fast between courses, etc). With a little refinement and a little extra time spent on each dish I think this place would be fantastic and I would definitely come back."

Prior to going to there I didn't realize the food is daily fresh catch, locally grown and organic - 3 things I support wholeheartedly. The service was perfect. Our waiter was well-versed on the menu and very attentive. He was able to recommend appetizers as well as one of the specialty cocktails. I will definitely return to Biga and will recommend it to my friends."

  • "Had been to Biga once while in town for convention May '13, & was very impressed, therefore anxious to return so my husband could experience the gourmet fare. I ordered the pork tenderloin, which was absolutely delicious. But the rice was a gummy texture with little flavor & the broccoli spears were fried (supposedly similar to okra). It was not appealing at all to my taste. And the spinach salad was just ok-it was somewhat "dry", & would've been much better with more dressing. It was a busy Friday night & perhaps the chefs were overloaded, but we will most likely not be returning."

  • "Elevated balcony seating next to river walk was great. Unfortunately, it had rained quite heavily the night before. We ate at 7 pm and all started well until I sat down. My seat cushion was like a sponge filled with water. So even though it was a great meal with good service, a wet bottom is to say the least distracting! Having said that, the food was great. One particular appealing point was the choice of a half serving for about half price of regular serving. This allowed us to order both meat and fish. Highly recommend to others, but not if you want cheap fast food on the water."

  • "Our server was excellent as she shared how the chef keeps a high standard for his selected menu items on a daily basis plus she was very helpful in guiding us through the menu items....all of us raved about the appetizer items which included oyster nachos and a type of lettuce wrap dish...i enjoyed the ahi tuna while others enjoyed the rib eye...the sticky toffee dessert was also very good....overall a great experience for our client and me plus it was scenic as it was on the bank of the river walk. Highly recommend for entertaining clients!"
