Biga on the BanksExcellent diningBiga always provides excellent dining and service. Our last visit was no exception.
Spring fare 3 course meal is a true winner and Bruce Auden is a master of cuisine.
Highly recommended for a special occasion dinner, romantic dinner for 2 or simply excellent food in a classy atmosphere.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome experience! The food was fantastic!! Lots of great flavors and textures. Couldn't miss out on a bite! Came back the next night just to get the dessert we didn't have room for the first night! Loved the scallop and the foie gras appetizers followed by the pork tenderloin and red snapper entrees. Loved the sticky toffee pudding and the berry shortcake. If you love food, you must go!! Great ambience too.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and people! We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Biga with a group of 9 and were absolutely thrilled with the food and service. Our server Gigi was amazing, she was on top of every special request and always with a smile. She explained how the chef is very picky and how he doesn't print the menu until late in the afternoon, after he's decided what to buy and prepare. The food was tastefully prepared and was visually appealing. Everybody had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVisit from the NorthWe did our homework and saved this "find' for the last night of our trip to San Antonio., arriving one hour early,, but quickly accomodated. While the weather was threatening , we took a shot at the veranda over the River Walk ....soon after our wonderful triple sampler appetizer plate the skies opened with torrents of rain, but the folks were ready with inside table waiting, with three servers swooping us up without a break in service. Moved through a lovely arugula salad and absolutely excellent lamb chop and venison/quail half entrees (great touch for fine dining!)...washed it down with a scrumptous petite sirah, and the offering and before an after complmentary champagne..it simply has to be the best of the best in San Antonio!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA return to Biga on the BanksWe visit San Antonio every year for a seminar. It has become a tradtion to eat at Biga on the Banks because we are never ever disappointed in the food or the service. I highly recomend this restaurant!!! The service is consistantly great as is the food and they have a great wine list. It had been raining so we were seated inside, but it was fine and everything went well. The manager even came by our table and we told him how much we love the restaurant because you don't have to worry about having a bad experience and he has a great waitstaff.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBigliciousGreat view of the river, quiet, scrumptious food, dedicated & friendly staff. Very pleasant, never hovering and yet always seemed to be there right when we needed her!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat foodI went there for my anniversary and we sat on the terrace which was Nice as it was right above the river walk. The service was a little slow but we were in no hurry. We ordered the lamb sausage and shrimp with hummus as an app and it was gear. We also ordered the magi which was nice and light and the duck breast and leg confit with Duck fat roasted veg and lorange jus. The food was great and we definitely will return.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was beautifully served,Food was beautifully served, simply prepared, just enough to satisfy without over loading you with food portions. The beef rib eye was served with a Pinot Demi glade that was the perfect complement to the beef. The salmon was perfectly cooked and served with mashed potatoes that had a good creamy consistency.
Toffee pudding for dessert,a lovely brown sugar treat and one was enough for two after a big meal. We had a lovely anniversary celebration by the river with great service and fine food. Try a martini for a cocktail-they are happy to mix to your taste.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDate Night Out at Table 1Valet parking...superb food...outstanding service...if you like Rioja, try the Biga from Espana. Table 1 is a quiet table for two set off to the side in a secluded spot with a nice view...romantic setting for that special occasion. Smoked salmon nachos, rack of lamb, almost -bouillabaisse are superb! Come to think of it...it was all superb.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic find!Perfect way to end our trip in San Antonio. EVERYTHING we ordered was amazing.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBIGA Two Thumbs Up Restaurant!!!!!!One of my very favorite appetizers are the pot stickers with two different dipping sauces. Several times for my entrée I ordered pork tenderloin. This time it was prepared with small bits of orange - what a taste explosion. I loved it. Since my birthday is in June, I received a candle on my dessert plate along with wonderful ice cream. I felt so special. Gigi is traditionally my server, taking wonderful care of me. But from the time I walk in I feel so welcome and almost like being part of the Bruce Auden special group. The entire staff is so caring and professional. Plan to continue dining at Biga many, many more times in the future.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeWe had the smoked salmon nachos for an appetizer that were awesome. Not only did the food taste great but the presentation only enhanced the experience. The service was excellent as well. And our table was next to the window overlooking the river. Together it all made for one of the best dinning experiences I have ever had. Without reservation I would recommend Biga to anyone looking for great food and service in a beautiful setting.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant Dining on The RiverwalkDining at Biga on the Banks was one of the highlights of our romantic getaway in San Antonio. The view of the Riverwalk was beautiful and serene. The service was outstanding. The bread was so good, I almost took the rest of the basket home in a doggie bag! The salads were beautifully made and very light so as not to ruin our appetites for the main course. Both of us ordered steaks - the beef tenderloin with poblano chimichurri had just the right amount of heat, and the corn pudding was scrumptious. We ordered the Grand Marnier soufflé which was divine. We would go back to San Antonio just to eat at Biga on the Banks again. Next time we will reserve ahead and make sure to get a table right next to the window.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular all aroundEverything at Biga is top notch and amazing. I live in Austin and it's been approximately 8 years since my last dining experience at Biga. Mike was very helpful with the menu since all I could remember was the delicious corn pudding from 8 years ago. The food was great. The snapper and mahi were unbelievably FRESH and tasty. Mike discovered we were celebrating a 10 year anniversary and went out of his way to make the night memorable with complimentary champagne and writing "Happy 10th Anniversary" in chocolate on the plate of our dessert soufflé. The food was excellent and the service from Mike was impeccable!!! I will make the trip to San Antonio & Biga more often.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!Lives up to its reviews - worth it in every regard! Thank you for helping to make a memorable lifetime event.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial occasion. We were looking for a nice dinner spot to celebrate our daughter's college graduation. Biga's on the Banks did not disappoint. The atmosphere was elegant but not overstated. The service timely but not rushed. The food and drink selections were unique and varied. The surprise of the evening was a complimentary made to order dessert celebrating the graduation event. All in all a very memorable dining experience. Highly recommended.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome! What a great restaurant. Our first time eating here and I'm not sure why we waited so long! This is a perfect special occasion restaurant.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEXCELLENT IN EVER WAYThis was by far the best dining experience I have had in my 47 years of life. The waiter was beyond superb in explaining the menu that changes daily, and had a vast knowledge of the chef and wine list. It was our 25 wedding anniversary and the waiter wasn't sure if we would order a dessert so he surprised us with a mini tart filled with a blackberry, accompanied with a few blueberries, raspberries, freshly made whip cream and "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. The food was the best I have ever tasted, including a couple of items I normally don't eat, were excellent! I highly recommend Biga on the Banks for any occasion.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMRiverwalk at its best!Outstanding dining experience. While in San Antonio it is worth taking a break from all the Tex Mex food and enjoy outstanding Farm to table dinning. Portions are somewhat generous so half plates and sharing should be considered. All the breads are baked on the premises and the location on the Riverwalk is intimate yet accessible. Looking forward to a return visit!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat DInnerWhat a great meal at Biga on the Banks!! It was a little difficult to find- we drove by it about 4 times- and we were early for our reservation. They seated us quickly at a lovely table with a window view. The atmosphere was quiet and elegant. The food was fantastic!! Everything we ordered was delicious. I remarked that it might have been one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. Food was cooked just right and the service was impeccable. Did not feel rushed or hovered over but our waiter was very attentive to our every whim. It was by far the best meal we had while on vacation in San Antonio. I would not hesitate to recommend highly!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous! We enjoyed the best meal at Biga during our 5 day stay in San Antonio. Great service and wonderful food. Will definitely go back if ever in San Antonio again.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence in every category!A superb dining experience! The food was amazing and the highlight was a personal visit from Chef Auden!
We will return many times over!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing FoodExcellent spot for fine dining. Ambiance is on the hipper side, not real stuffy. Not a lot of River Side seating though, but some. Chef has lots of unique flavors, true foodie experience.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly OutstandingMy wife and I discovered Biga on a trip to San Antonio a year ago and found the food and the service to be superb. We were back this past week....twice...and it exceeded expectations once again. The staff is tremendously knowledgeable and the food made with the freshest ingredients. Menu choices are terrific...there is something for everyone. Our only regret is that we live nearly 2000 miles away or we would be there regularly.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was easy to make a reservationIt was easy to make a reservation through Open Table and it was great that Biga called to confirm our reservation. I called and asked for a table by the windows and they gave us a perfect location. I had also told them it was someone's birthday and the hostess mentioned it upon seating us and our server mentioned it upon arrival also. Thank you for the attention to detail. The service and food were excellent. We will return.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome restaurant on the river. We loved our "Biga on the Banks" experience. The service is always great (especially if you get Chris) and the food is outstanding. The Australian rack of lamb is my favorite but everything on the menu is great. Try the smoked salmon nachos as an appetizer.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDream come true night! This was our first time ever to eat here. It was a very special night for us. While driving from Corpus Christi to San Antonio, I googled a search to find the top river walk restaurants. Biga was #1. I went to their website which gave me the luxury to make an online reservation. 9pm was available. And just for fun, in the special request box, I asked for a private table for 2 with a great view of the Riverwalk. Upon our arrival we were seated in that dream location as requested! Wow! Plus we had our own curtain to pull to make it a private space and our own light dimmer switch. The food was Amaaaazing!! Topping that off we viewed the Fiesta Riverboat Night Parade- what a surprise for a Monday Night Event!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMContinues to be an excellentContinues to be an excellent choice among the many average restaurants along the river. Creative combinations of (mostly) local ingredients. Wine list is good, but a bit on the high side, although a few inexpensive bottles were included and proved to be great values.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
