  • "Big Jones was able to deliver great cajun food and very good service. Definitely coming back."

  • "Perfect for a Sunday brunch but definitely make a reservation this place is packed."

  • "My boyfriend and I were advised to go there because of their shrimp and grits. It was "ok", not the best that I've had. The most irritating part of the experience was the slow service. We attempted to go for brunch on a sunday but were unable to get a table until 1:45pm. One would think that service would be swift after the brunch rush.. But, no. Once seated we waited for about 25 minutes to give our drink orders, then waited another chunk of time to receive our drinks and have our orders taken. As hungry individuals, we just sat there and watched people's food pass us by for about 40 minutes until our order was taken. They did provide complimentary beignet's which was nice. Overall, we will not be returning to Big Jones."

  • "A brunch that takes reservations!! I love it. Oh and the food is great too..."

  • "Based on what we read, we thought it was going to be great. It wasn't. Four of us went during brunch so we knew it would be busy, but somehow the group of 4 at the table next to us (who we happen to know) managed to wait in line, be seated and receive their food BEFORE we did even though we had ordered BEFORE they were even seated. And when we finally got our food, my crab cakes were sitting on top of soggy popovers and my husband's pineapple pancakes were burnt to a blacken char on 1 side (conveniently the bottom side so we couldn't see it right away) and there were 2 tiny pieces of pineapple in it. Who serves burnt food to hungry customers that have been waiting like that??? I really felt like we were treated like second class citizens."

  • "The food was great. Only problem was the portions were small for the price you pay. Left still hungry after ordering the Halibut."

  • "Every time we come here, we are never disappointed. The fried chicken is to die for...but don't forget to come for brunch. The corn griddle cakes are phenomenal, as is the biscuits and gravy. Service is always awesome - servers know so much about the drinks, and if they don't the bartender does. Also, they know everything about their food - where it comes from, how it was raised, etc."

  • "I have often been through Andersonville and somehow missed Big Jones! I was happy to finally stumble upon it! The waitress Kate was esquisite. She made sure that every need was met. The food was outstanding. The fried chicken was a southern staple! And I didn't mind waiting for the amazing skillet corn bread! Even The cocktails were creates with passion. I brought my kids with me and they were happy as well! I will be back very soon!"

  • "Andersonville is lucky to have such a southern gem in the neighborhood. The food is top-notch New Orleans style cooking. It's a must for any foodie in Chicago."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "This perfect restaurants that is the crowning achievement of the Chicago food scene. The menu is carefully considered, thematic, reasonably priced and easily understood. The food itself is "innovative Southern traditional", tthe ingredients are fresh and cooked with both science and love. The bar has a mindboggling collection of rare bourbons and other spirits. The staff has very low turnover -- some waiters are former bussers -- with genuine pride in the food and the establishment."

  • "The fried chicken was GREAT! The greens were TERRIBLE...too much vinegar and too many stems. They need to work on the greens..."

  • "I took my significant other to Big Jones for his birthday, remembering a notable whiskey/scotch/rum selection which is one of the interests we share. Big Jones hit that part out of the park. The food was spectacular and a little on the heavy side, but it was amazing."

  • "Hi, we loved the fabulous fried chicken. It is some of the best in the city. We ate at the bar and had excellent service from our bartender on Saturday night."

  • "Lunch was terrific. Service was great. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff was inviting and gracious. The food was as advertised - outstanding. We'll be back to try other things on the menu that aroused our curiosity. Anything with Voodoo in it sounds like it's a must have."

  • "The food is amazing, but there aren't many choices aside from very heavy Southern food. If you want something light, this is not the place. Drink choices are plentiful and yummy. Restaurant is small so make a reso for brunch."

  • "The food was always good but service could be an issue. Because of that, we had avoided going. But we went last weekend and service was significantly better."

  • "This was my 6th or 7th visit to Big Jones and it once again was fabulous. Everything they do, they do well from fried chicken to pimento cheese. Tonight we feasted on oysters and crab cakes and biscuits and ribs. It was all mouth-watering. The service was excellent as usual. Though it was a bit loud, we felt comfortable and unhurried. There will certainly be an 8th and an 80th visit to Big Jones."

  • "We've only been here for Sunday Brunch - this was our 4th time. It is consistently excellent - both food and service. The complimentary beignets are to die for. The grits are some of the best I've had. Amazing cocktail list - Can be a little on the loud side - but the ambiance is great. No round tables - so I wouldn't necessarily recommend for groups over 6. Catfish is amazing - as are the biscuits and gravy. It's just a great place."

  • "Book a table at Big Jones for a special event and you'll be as happy as a deep fried oyster po'boy! Made reservations here for my mom's bday this past Saturday. It was splendid, staff were friendly and hip, offering up recs on favorite menu items (which is handy because they switch it up quite a bit). We were seated upon arrival, mardi gras inspired drink orders were taken quick and ready to sip within 10 minutes. I made reservations on Open Table and put in a note requesting (if possible) they surprise the bday girl with a dessert+candle post dinner. They brought out 4 delicious little pastries (considerate being that there were four heads total), 1 with a little burning candle just as requested. Jambalaya was as perfect as the night!"

  • "Had a fabulous Mardi Gras dinner at Big Jones on Friday - the BBQ shrimp, cornbread and crawfish etouffee were outstanding. I'd pass on the crab cakes next time thought because the sesame seed crust and chunky brown sauce overpowered the delicate crab. Our server and "cocktail guru" Andrew, was very knowledgeable and fun to chat with. They have one of the largest bourbon menus I've every seen, and their take on an Old Fashioned (walnut liquor) was spot on. I can't believe I'd never heard of this place! It sits in Calo's shadow, so we've driven by hundreds of times without noticing. I would recommend some better signage."

  • "We were very impressed with all aspects of our visit. The friendliness of the staff was matched by their extensive knowledge of the menu items. My wife and I like to ask for recommendations from the wait staff and they were spot on. My roast beef and debris po' boy was incredible and my wife really enjoyed her fried chicken. Our appetizers were the sweet potato hash which was excellent and the biscuits which were a bit on the small side but still great. Drinks were lovely as well although the beer list wasn't as extensive as some. I would recommend switching the Finch's brews to some other higher quality local beer but that may be just a matter of preference. The calas for dessert were incredible. What a great evening."

  • "First time here and can't wait to go back. Loved every dish I tried, great wine and the staff was incredibly invested in making our experience awesome. Slightly pricey but worth it. Fried chicken, swamp salad and lemon pie were some of my favorites! Will be back soon."

  • "I loved the easy, comfortable feel of of Big Jones. Service was very attentive (it was a slow weekday night in the middle of winter). I really enjoyed the smoked pork tenderloin on a bed of bean purée with sweet potato hash and a boudin ball and got a chance to try the gumbo ya ya which was also very tasty. They offered a nice selection of whiskeys to add to the evening. Terrific comfort food with a nice atmosphere. Definitely would return."

  • "LOVED this little joint, with the unique 'southern new orleans' type menu... We had a great time at brunch. Loved your bloody mary - french toast - corn muffins - omelet - bacon - and soooo much more!"

  • "Our service was TERRIBLE. We went on Saturday night on 2/15 and there was one waitress for the whole front of the restaurant. We asked her if there were specials. She said "Yes". Then said nothing else. Awkward. She disappeared so frequently, we would get up from the table to order drinks at the bar and bring them back to our table. Ridiculous. The restaurant was not even that crowded when we got there. She never checked on us to see if our food was ok. We made the trek to Andersonville from our neighborhood in Rivernorth bc of good things I've heard. Most likely won't be back. The food was ok. I was not blown away. The drinks were SMALL for what you are paying for."

  • "I had an amazing brunch here - everything was great, from the food to the friendly service to the charming and energetic dining room. All the food I tried was spot on, full of flavor and quality ingredients. Everyone's favorite dish is the Eggs New Orleans - crab cakes with poached eggs, popovers and hash browns. The dish has everything, but it really starts with the fresh, juicy crab. Every table was given a complimentary plate of beignets, too, what a generous finish. Just one disclaimer, though - the food across the board is very rich, so don't expect anything light here."

  • "My only complaint -- the waiter pushed too much food on us. Our table of four wanted the justly praised fried chicken, and the waiter swore that we would need two more entrees besides the whole fried chicken. We all went home with leftovers -- not a bad thing, but be aware that the food is rich, filling and plentifu."

  • "I was unfortunately a little disappointed by the Valentine's Day Prix Fixe. I have never had a bad experience here before and have ALWAYS left absolutely satisfied, whether it be for dinner or brunch. I was very excited about the prix fixe, but the food seemed a little underwhelming for the price and I would have preferred the normal menu. I felt the dishes had too many of the same flavors and were a little on the cool side. The waiter (I don't know his name, but we've had him before!) was outstanding as always. We'll definitely be back, but probably not for a prix fixe again. Also, looking forward to your book!"

  • "Took my girlfriend here for an early Valentines. Wasn't sure due to the name, but the reviews were accurate. The food here is outstanding! We've had the pleasure of eating at most of the top rated places in town, and Big Jones has now been added as a place we'll frequent. Friendly staff, great old school New Orleans jazz playing in the background, food that tastes as good as it looks, and all wrapped up in a reasonably priced package. We had the blood sausage, salad, brussel sprouts, duck, flatiron steak and coconut creme pie. I'd recommend it all, and with a couple drinks, the tab only totaled $100. Don't let the name fool you. This is one awesome gem of a restaurant!"

  • "We enjoyed a great brunch before a matinee theater production. Birthday boy loves buckwheat pancakes but not bananas. The kitchen accomodated his request and pancakes were magnificient. I'm a New Mexican, so I know posole. All the flavor was there, maybe just a little more picoso. It was jammed, but our server was bright, friendly and took great care of us."
